PowerUp NC Invites Raleigh Residents to Envision a Greener Future

PowerUp NC invites Raleigh residents to Robert’s Park Community Center on Saturday, August 29, for a community conversation about sustainability, resilient neighborhoods and environmentally responsible development.

This summer’s extreme heat and rising electricity bills have made the need for action increasingly clear. The event will explore practical ways residents, community leaders and local programs can work together to create healthier neighborhoods where buildings and development support the environment instead of working against it.

Addressing High Utility Bills and Community Challenges

Attendees will have an opportunity to discuss the environmental and economic challenges affecting Raleigh households. The gathering is designed to give residents useful information while ensuring their experiences and ideas are included in the conversation.

Participants can expect to leave with:

• Actionable ideas for addressing extreme heat, energy costs and environmental concerns.
• Information about local programs offering free or low-cost home maintenance assistance.
• A better understanding of how sustainable development can strengthen Raleigh neighborhoods.
• Opportunities to connect with residents who care about sustainability and community resilience.

Free Food and Raffle Prizes

The event is open to residents who are passionate about sustainability, concerned about rising utility bills or simply interested in learning about available community resources.

Everyone who registers will receive free food and automatically be entered into a raffle for a chance to win prizes. Advance registration is encouraged, but residents who have not registered are still invited to participate.

What Is PowerUp NC?

PowerUp NC is a statewide movement working to build a stronger economy, healthier environment and more inclusive democracy across North Carolina.

The initiative addresses issues affecting everyday households, including affordable housing, high utility bills and access to healthy food. PowerUp NC also works to confront systemic injustices, increase community participation and promote sustainable solutions shaped by the people most affected.

Am 10.07.2026 haben Bundestag und Bundesrat umfassende Reformen der gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung beschlossen.

Doch das "Beitragsstabilisierungsgesetz" spart an den falschen Stellen.

So sollen insbesondere in der Krebsvorsorge, in der ambulanten Psychotherapie und in der Pflege massiv Leistungen gekürzt werden. Doch gerade an diesen Stellen sind Kürzungen fatal.

Durch die Leistungskürzungen müssen Psychotherapiepraxen um ihre Existenz bangen. Dadurch werden Therapieplätze wegfallen, obwohl bereits jetzt in dem Bereich eine dramatische Unterversorgung besteht.

Die ebenfalls beschlossene Pflegereform ist ein Schlag ins Gesicht für pflegebedürftige Menschen und ihre Angehörigen, da die Anerkennung eines Pflegegrades erschwert wird und insbesondere bei dringend benötigten Haushaltshilfen gekürzt wird.

Zu allem Überfluss trifft die Reform ohnehin schon marginalisierte Menschen besonders hart, da die Zuzahlungen zu Medikamenten und Krankenhausaufenthalten, die Patient*innen selbst leisten müssen, steigen, und Privatversicherte nicht direkt von den Reformen betroffen sind.

Eine Reform der Krankenkassen in Deutschland ist dringend nötig - doch das Problem sind nicht lebenswichtige Behandlungen, sondern das ungerechte Zwei-Klassen-System im Gesundheitssystem mit privater und gesetzlicher Krankenversicherung.

Wir treffen uns alle zwei Wochen donnerstags um 18 Uhr mit unserem Chor - den Schwarzkehlchen - auf dem Dachboden des ORH um gemeinsam zu singen. Unsere nächsten Termine sind z.B. der 14.11. und der 28.11.24.

Wir wollen uns gemeinsam an dem Spaß, an der Verbundenheit, Mut und Hoffnung erfreuen, die das gemeinsame Singen bietet. Singen ist vielerorts ein wichtiger Bestandteil von Bewegungen, in Bonn fehlt uns das. Wir singen Lieder aus sozialen Bewegungen, anti-autoritär und für das Leben, auf verschiedenen Sprachen. Es gibt bei uns kein Vorsingen und kein "Singlevel" was nötig ist.
