I found where the clankers sleep in downtown #Austin! There's this fenced off area of parking lot next to the old Austin-American Statesman building, right next to the trail on Town Lake.

Not sure if they're plugged into generators or something else, but it was pretty noisy.

Scenes from my 8-mile (13k) hike, a little farther than I wanted to go. But I came across a red-eared slider turtle by a nearly dry pond and decided to carry it a mile out of my way to a reliable pond at a park, because that is what two of my animal loving friends would have done. I have moved many turtles to water and they all react differently: some try running away, some thrash their clawed feet after being picked up, some go inside their shells, some are quiet while others hiss, and some do a little of all those things. When they are put at the edge of a pond, some stay still in apparent shock for several minutes and others go right in. This one and I looked at one another for a few minutes while I decided whether to carry her/him. S/he went inside when I picked him/her up and remained still and quiet for the duration of our hike together. I put her/him at the edge of the pond, turned around to take two steps away from the edge, looked back over my shoulder, and s/he was gone.
