Yesterday we attended a funeral in NW Indiana. (Not ab. the funeral.)
Trees were broken and uprooted everywhere, after days of severe storms. Attendees told us they were still without power and had been for days. Gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores were closed. Dark windows everywhere.
As we drove home, traffic was backed up. Busy intersections w/o traffic signals. People managed, haltingly.
Yes it's temporary. But eerie. Life w/o power seemed untenable.

Yesterday evening in clouds.
(So happy to see clouds again after week of relentless heat)
The distant patch is a line of thunderstorms, just missing us. The sun is setting somewhere behind, backlighting them dramatically.
As we walked further, more thunderstorms grew suddenly over mountains to the south - rumbling and frightening my dog, but not actually moving away from the high ground.
(Very good! There was a forest fire over there)
