  6. Part 1
Today I visited "The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial Disaster Reduction & Human Renovation Institution".

Impressive & distressing, especially as the guide explained that he still feels guilty for not having been there, as he left for the USA five days before the earthquake for work.

  7. Part 6
    Akashi Kaikyo Bridge

Filmed it with my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and with my Canon R50 with a Samyang AF 12 / 2 lense.

In this particular lighting scenario, the R50 decisively outperformed the Osmo Pocket 3.

The red light on the left side in the first part is a night angler and not an error / glitch.
And yes ambulances have red lights in Japan (visible on the bridge).

  8. Part 4
    Akashi Kaikyo Bridge

The bridge is impressive during the day and a real beauty at night.

As soon as the sun sets, the bridge turns on its lights.
If I read correctly there are 31 different light modes available.
Which light mode is shown depends on the time of the year, if it is a full or half hour and if it is a special occasion (sakura, etc).

    Akashi Kaikyo Bridge!

On the side of Kobe you have the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge Exhibition Center and the Maiko Marine Promenade which is an observation deck.
    Sounds boring?!
    Definitely not!
For 250¥ you can go up to the observation deck on the underside of the bridge!

You go up onto the 8th floor and then walk a footpath "under" the bridge :)

  11. Part 1
    Akashi Kaikyo Bridge!

The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is the world's second longest suspension bridge with a main span of 1.991m connecting Kobe and Awaji Island with a total length of 3.911m.

    Some might wonder why 1.991m?!
Originally it was 1.990m but the Great Hanshin Earthquake moved the two towers and so 1 extra meter had to be added.

  26. RE: flipboard.social/@newsguyusa/1

It's been 15 years since I was in my office building in Tokyo for that earthquake, resulting in my consulting work shutting down due to lack of power grid capacity, so I returned to the US.

Japanese friends called within 12 hrs of the main earthquake, panicked, as they weren't getting info about Fukushima (including Steve's reporting), but lived in Nasu, about 10 miles away from Fukushima. I advised they evacuate and they also moved to the US with their young daughter.

A good source of info is fairewinds.org/fukushima-relat though i don't think they are still actively reporting on Fukushima, even though the cleanup is FAR from complete.
