Sismo de 6.7 sacude Antofagasta y Calama en Chile

Terremoto en Chile alcanzó magnitud 6.7 cerca de Calama.

Un terremoto de magnitud 6.7 se registró la tarde de este lunes del 25 de mayo en la región de Antofagasta, al norte de Chile. El movimiento telúrico ocurrió cerca de la ciudad de Calama y fue reportado por sistemas internacionales de monitoreo sísmico. El fenómeno alcanzó una profundidad de 119 kilómetros.

El informe preliminar indicó que el epicentro se ubicó a 16.4 kilómetros al este-sureste de Calama, en la región chilena de Antofagasta. Las coordenadas oficiales marcaron una localización de 22.490 grados sur y 68.768 grados oeste. El evento sísmico ocurrió a las 21:52:18 horas UTC (15:52 horas tiempo del centro de México) de este 25 de mayo de 2026.

El horario cercano al epicentro correspondió a las 17:52:18 horas en territorio chileno. Para México, el registro sísmico ocurrió a las 03:52:18 horas del 26 de mayo de 2026. El movimiento fue detectado mediante estaciones regionales y sistemas especializados de monitoreo geológico.

Epicentro en Calama

El reporte técnico precisó que el sismo ocurrió a 153.8 kilómetros al este-sureste de Tocopilla. También se ubicó a 185.1 kilómetros al este-noreste de Mejillones y a 210.6 kilómetros al noreste de Antofagasta. Otra referencia geográfica señaló una distancia de 282 kilómetros al sur-sureste de La Tirana.

Las autoridades técnicas señalaron que el evento presentó un margen de error horizontal de 6.1 kilómetros. El error vertical reportado alcanzó 5.9 kilómetros dentro del sistema de localización. El monitoreo incluyó información recopilada por 27 lecturas sísmicas.

El análisis técnico indicó que la estación más cercana al epicentro se localizó a 79.2 kilómetros de distancia. El sistema reportó un Error Cuadrático Medio de 0.46 segundos durante la evaluación del evento. El máximo gap azimutal registrado alcanzó 58 grados.

Actividad sísmica chilena

Chile figura entre los países con mayor actividad sísmica en el mundo debido a su ubicación sobre el Cinturón de Fuego del Pacífico. La interacción entre placas tectónicas genera movimientos telúricos frecuentes a lo largo de su territorio. Regiones como Antofagasta mantienen monitoreo permanente por parte de autoridades geológicas y científicas.

La región de Antofagasta concentra actividad minera, industrial y urbana relevante para la economía chilena. Ciudades como Calama y Antofagasta forman parte de corredores estratégicos relacionados con extracción de cobre y comercio internacional.
