:boostRequest: Due to life decisions that I am comfortable with , I use my SDRs over the network with my own goofball protocol.

Existing apt installable programs don't support it, so I figured it was high time to do what any normal person would do -- convincingly implement librtlsdr.so off my rust sdr codebase (sparky) and make it work without any other changes. Obviously.

A very interesting use for those #rtlsdr #sdr dongles: Listen to what your heat cost allocators, water meters etc. are talking all day. And graph it.
Hint: They're really chatty.
And the stuff is surprisingly easy to setup with cheap dongles, i.e. former DVB-T/DAB dongles.

And what is even more impressive: Those little things can do proper #AES...who would've thunk.

Bought a cheap #saw + #lna together with a small antenna for #adsb really impressed by the result so far. This is still inside the house.

The setup also uses an #rtlsdr using the #sdrangel Android app.

Some learning.
Some failure.
Some broken stuff.
Reworked some stuff.
Signals are still jacked.
Gonna need to rethink.

it took a weekend...

A discone antenna was installed in the attic along with a 5v line for power...

why does an antenna need 5v ?

Well it does if you wanna amplify the signal it is receiving and push that signal 35' feet to the receiver...

And you also wanna amplify it when you wanna connect a lot of devices to a single antenna - all at once - pushing the antenna physics...

So the wiring is;
Antenna to an FM Block (to knock out the FM broadcast waves that the antenna is being hammered by and then...

the FM Block is connected ot the LNA (Low Noise Amplifier) that will amplify whatever signal with in its range down the cable...

Through to the Antenna COMBINER - where this will take a lot of devices that want an antenna attach and mix them within a single system source - the antenna source.

So I currently have 5 dedicated RTL-SDRs and 1 PiAware ADSB Receiver device (basically an SDR tuned for ADSB Plane beacon receiving) and all of it into the antenna combiner...

Photo is the top of the server rack in my home office/lab - and it shows the 5 SDRs going to a single NUC for Kismet.

I can now receive:

Trunk Radio of the municpalities broadcast public comms (unencrypted comms only)

I can tune SDR's to different frequencies where I can see:
Car TPMS Sensors
Accurite Temperature / Humidity sensors
Water Meters around the house of my own and others.

Single antenna - multiple devices listening on it...

Next Steps are to setup Trunk Radio and start consolidating the radio comms...

Great Help from the Radio Frequency Hackers Sanctuary Discord and the @kismetwireless Discord groups and the @jawncon Discord for chats and talking... listening to my failures and suggesting different things to try and work through...

Mentioned to a #HAM friend that now that the weather is turning nice again, I plan to take my #RTLSDR out to somewhere in visual range of BOS and try to pick up some ACARS (I don't have enough sky to pick up any in my apartment)

And because I started talking about radio stuff to a licensed and experienced radio operator, now I am listening to the #ARRL Heavy Hitters Traffic Net on 146.82 MHz.

My friend tells me this is a repeater installed in the Prudential Tower and he is somewhere else in the relay chain.
