  1. First #rosebuds from past cuttings propagation. I took some pretty scented rose cuttings from a local stranger's garden (with consent), 18 months ago. Propagated them in our front yard.
I'm really happy that they've developed into strong rose plants 😃 I'll post update photos, when these bloom for the first time.

  6. I had to terminate this invasive juvenile black slug. It's in an area that's part of an ongoing rewilding community, environmental project. We remove them from areas where we're trying to protect native slugs & native habitat. Taildropper slugs are a native slug species at threat here on Vancouver Island & it's important to do our best to protect their habitats.

Even though these are called black slugs, they have a wide colour range & most found here exhibit this brown colour, when young.
Black slugs can lay up to 150 eggs at a time. They reproduce very quickly, which causes their population to grow beyond manageable in a short time period, if left to breed.
By comparison, native slugs lay only 20-30 eggs & are slower to reproduce.

  7. Paddling under #SelkirkTrestle bridge, on the #GorgeWaterway.

The Selkirk Trestle is a #historic wooden railway bridge in Victoria, British Columbia. Spanning 302 meters (approximately 991 feet) over the Gorge Waterway, it connects the neighborhoods of Burnside-Gorge & Victoria West. Built in 1917 for the Canadian Northern Railway (later part of Canadian National Railway), it originally carried freight, including forest products, to industrial areas in Victoria. The bridge features a rare Scherzer rolling lift (bascule) span, approximately 37 meters long. It was traditionally hand-operated to allow tall vessels to pass through the Selkirk Arm of the Gorge Waterway.

Today, it is part of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, which runs for 55 km from Victoria to Sooke on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

  16. Mom likes snapdragons a lot. She loves how they look & how hardy they are. Her fave colours are pink & red. I want to add white, peach, orange & yellow snapdragons to our container gardens for more colours diversity.
