I miss Dad very much 😢 ❤️ He's been gone for over 2 years now.
I remember this day well. It was an excellent family bonding day. We had a nice dinner after a short walk together. 3 months after this photo was taken, Dad had to go to ER for a leg muscles issue. He was infected with covid by unmasked hospital staff. It happened shortly after our eugenics government removed public masking mandates. Dad ended up dying from covid related cardiac arrest, the following Summer.I have never forgiven the #BCgovernment or #unmasked #hospital staff for killing my Dad. We had him fully protected with home #caregiving for years. It took less than 2 days in hospital for him to get #covid.

As the last pennies are minted today in the U.S., I am reminiscing about all the years when my family's grocery/deli sold a wide assortment of penny candy. We had 1¢ bubble gum, 1¢ mini tootsie rolls in a dozen flavors, 2¢ cinnamon fire balls, 2¢ lemon balls, 2¢ peppermints, 3¢ Mary Jane taffy, 3¢ Laffy Taffy, 3¢ caramel creams, 3¢ root beer barrels, and 3¢ lollipops.
There was an elementary school about a block from our store, and the homeward-bound kids would stop in and dither for fifteen minutes deciding how to spend a dime or quarter, selecting three of this, four of that, while my dad waited patiently for them to choose. We stocked small-sized paper bags especially for the candy sales.
Our selection of penny stuff was pretty extensive from the 1970's through the 1990's. The last years we were in business, in the 2000's, a lot of the penny stuff went up to 3¢, and the 3¢ stuff went up to a nickel, and a few items went up to a dime or disappeared entirely. But right up until we closed in 2007, there were still some candies for a nickel or less, and the Penny Candy Brigade were loyal.
When we closed up, we put a sign on our window thanking all the people who had supported our business, and included a special shout-out to that Penny Candy Brigade.

Okay, this question needs a long answer, because there's a story to tell.When I was a kid, decades ago, my sisters and I learned what we still refer to as "the bathroom wall poems". My dad would post a poem next to the mirror over the bathroom sink, and just leave it there. No requirement that we memorize it. Just there it was.
Whenever we combed our hair, brushed our teeth, or washed our hands, we would have this poem right there in front of our eyes. Gradually, lines and phrases would start to stick in our minds, like earworms. We'd start reciting them more and more easily. After a few weeks, my dad would replace the poem with a new one.
Fifty years later, all three of us can still recite, at the mere drop of a hint, every line of "Tiger tiger burning bright..." or "Whose woods these are I think I know..." or "I wandered lonely as a cloud..." or "Hope is the thing with feathers...." or any of more than a dozen other poems. What we learn as kids sticks in our brains forever. And we still refer to them as "the bathroom wall poems", a phrase which gets us weird looks from most people.
