Because #Perseverance has not had to spend much time stopped to wait ⏳ for navigation commands from drivers on Earth, the vehicle has been able to maximize the amount of #scientific return.

NASA's #Perseverance is a car-sized robotic rover exploring Mars. It landed on February 18, 2021, inside Jezero Crater to search for signs of ancient microbial life, collect rock and soil samples, and study the planet's climate and geology.

That would have been the first crater to be closely examined by #Perseverance, but apparently it wasn't meant to be. Before even the digital ink in which my post was writen was dry, the rover moved once again, and is now past that little crater.

Hm… 🤔
I suspect #Perseverance is going to examine that apparently recent (geologically) crater seen in the map and in the NAVCAM image below (FOV in green). Where else could it be going, given tosol's drive?Processed, undistorted, leveled NAVCAM_RIGHT

Animation of HELI_NAV images captured during flight 17 of #Ingenuity (Dec 5, 2021).
Processed, undistorted and stabilized, they give a dramatic impression of the regolith megaripple environment of an area called Seitah, where the #MarsHelicopter spent a year flying and scouting for the rover #Perseverance.
Of course the heli's shadow is an eye catcher, but if you look at the rest of the frame you may see some megaripples take the shape of strange creatures 😨
