    This is tough. I have many years I would want to relive so I could make the changes that affect the present but there is a haunting thought in the dark recess of my mind telling me this is the major one. With that said I guess today’s answer would be 1982. This is the year I got married, and started my over the road career in earnest. I won’t go into detail but there it is.

    This weekend your challenge is to write a poem or a piece of prose in exactly 90 words using the word “Trade”.

    In the gist of life’s journey I often gripe about the present affairs

    I stopped to smell a lilac today and it flooded my memories, taking me back to a time in life where I had nothing to gripe about. The purple flower was a symbol of love and beauty that my mother told me was the gist of life. I was maybe five or six at the time and I wouldn’t trade that memory for anything this world has to offer in these modern times. Memories like these grip my heart strings and gently tug at them bringing tears to my eyes.

  7. The Drama of the Past

    i am most disconcerted by the disconnect i feel from those who have impacted me the most

    the memories of our times together and the words of significant conversations stream through my brain in a constant play

    i am both audience and participant to this drama of the past
    confused as to how to consolidate what i have seen with what i am seeing now
    with who i am being with now

    i am more a friend to ghosts than flesh and bone it seems
    perhaps there really is no moving on

    each day i open the big back door of the moving truck and everyone i have ever known greets me and steps out onto the street of my new home

    TITLE: Depression may shut down the brain’s ability to make new neurons

    URL: sciencedaily.com/releases/2026

    A major study found that adults with depression show disrupted production of new neurons in the hippocampus, potentially weakening the brain’s ability to separate new experiences from painful memories. The researchers also identified broad molecular changes that could open the door to new treatments tailored to different biological forms of depression.

  9. I walk, or: Carrying less

    A Sijo

    sandals, Middle Eastern tan lines
    earbuds playing Billy Joel;
    the old words sound and sound right
    yet their teenage listener has blurred;
    midlife's now loosening its grip
    I walk on, carrying less

    Sijo?

    A Korean verse form related to haiku and tanka and comprised of three lines of 14-16 syllables each, for a total of 44-46 syllables. Each line contains a pause near the middle, similar to a caesura, though the break need not be metrical. The first half of the line contains six to nine syllables; the second half should contain no fewer than five. Originally intended as songs, sijo can treat romantic, metaphysical, or spiritual themes. Whatever the subject, the first line introduces an idea or story, the second supplies a “turn,” and the third provides closure. Modern sijo are sometimes printed in six lines.

    Let’s write poetry together!

    When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

    Ben Harper (b. 1969)

    Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  10. My final post on MTV Real World memories is that watching it became part of a Thursday ritual between me and my girlfriend at the time. After work, we would go to
    Pellettieri Joes for their Thursday Lasagna special, then we would stop at the grocery store on the way home to pick up a can of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls, and we would bake them, and watch The Real World while eating them.

    It is a fond memory.

When I reread Armistead Maupin's "TALES OF THE CITY," I always picture Elaine's Minneapolis apartment as the one owned by trans heroine Anna Madrigal, and home to the other characters in the series. 14. The latest book by my Iraq battle buddy and roommate, Fred Minnick. I’d gotten word today there’s a couple pages where I’m a part of his story. I called him and he read the pages in which he tells of one of our experiences having mortar rounds miss our quarters and then, unable to sleep, he opened a Listerine bottle full of whiskey he’d received in a care package, I grabbed a couple cigars and we sat outside in the area between the trailers we were in dubbed “NCO Alley.”

  15. A lonely start

    I was at my parent's place for New Years. Just after midnight, I went outside with my mum. We watched some fireworks, which was nice and all. But, as I was watching, I felt overwhelmed by a sudden feeling of loneliness. As I gathered my things to head home again, I felt like it was the saddest start of the new year I've ever experienced... I was alone in Skoosh, driving home, to be there... On my own... Arwen passed away 181 days ago, on Jan 1st that was, and when this gets shared, she will have been gone for exactly 6 months. But it still feels like yesterday when I had to say goodbye to her... 😢 This should be getitng easier, or so people say... But, my life... It resolved so much around Arwen, and her needs and wants, that I just feel like I lost my "purpose" when she passed away. If all goes well, in about 3 weeks, I will know if Gentle is pregnant, if there may be another gall coming for me... But until then... It's just lonely me, missing my gall so much... […]
