🐾 Our first week together ❤️
I've started writing this post on Sunday, our fourth day together. As most of you will know, Koa came to live with me last Wednesday, April 22nd. The first week, we sure had our challenges. Me, getting to know Koa better. Koa, learning about his new environment, and all the new rules... Me😎, adjusting my routine as much as I can to suit Koa's better. And of course Koa, needing to adapt to the routine that I think he needs for now... Of course I tried to take snaps and vids. Sometimes it can be harder, because it's just me, so no one that can capture some moments where I am interacting with my little dude. 😊 Koa doesn't like resting a lot, he likes to practice his Pavarotti sounds, especially during the night... I keep hoping that I'm doing right by him, but even after two previous Labradors, I still wonder at times if I shouldn't be doing things differently... Especially when Koa is singing 🎤 the song of his people, it just hurts me to hear him in distress like that. Even when I know I've cared for him, all his needs have been met, and it's the idea of "resting" that's upsetting him... 🌟 Expectations 🐾
As I start writing this, it's only one more night till the coming of Koa. I have tried to be prepared as best as I could. Tried to puppy proof things I the home. Tried to order enough food and snacks for him. Tried to get enough toys for him to play with. I got a new harness and leash, and a longer training leash. I cleaned things as best as I could. And... I tried to read as much as I could to "revive" my knowledge again. A change of my routine, to adjust to Koa. He is used to a schedule now, and I don't want to disturb it too much, when his whole world is already turned upside-down. I have canceled some appointents, I won't go to the gym for a while, I have asked kind folks to "puppy-sit" Koa, so that I can go to some appointments, which are too important to cancel. Busy brain, many emotions
The last few weeks, or months even, have brought many experiences, emotions, and some anxiety as well. The recovery of my hip surgeries isn't going as I hoped it would go. Towards the end of 2025, it seemed to be going better, bit by bit. But then, it started to hurt more again. I started to feel more restricted. And with the weather and Bas happening in January and February, my normal routine changed as well... On February 26th, I was informed that the pups had been born, but the second girl had not made it. But, with a bit of luck (and maybe some help from my little star 🌟 up above), a male pup became available. So, since then, I've been preparing loads for the coming of my new boy. A boy! Who also turned out to be an alpha, so that means a double challenge for me. I've never raised a pup on my own, let alone an alpha male... And then... I learned that I needed another surgery soon. It's time for a vote! last year, I was lucky enough to findnot one, but two Acer Aspire One D270s. The first was sold as an extra, but worked well. The second was still sealed in the box! I never thought I would have the pleasure of opening a brand new netbook again. But to this day, I still haven't done so. Now, I have two choices, though I guess three, if I send both off.
1. Have the keyboard replaced, and the drive and Windows upgraded to 7 Professional on my open one.
2. Open the new one and have the drive, Windows, and ram upgraded.
3. Send both machines in and have the above work done.
Technically, on both machines, the drives are fine. They are 320gb models, so they have more than enough space for my needs. But they're 5400 rpm drives, and I want either a 7200 rpm replacement or a solid state one. My open machine has 2gb of ram, which is all the D270 can officially take. I have heard of some people installing 4gb and Windows seeing something like 2.9gb (I forget the exact number, but it wasn't the full 4), but I have also read that it's not always stable and there could be some problems with booting. Can anyone confirm this? If I keep it at 2gb, I am guessing it would make sense to use a 32-bit version of Windows 7 and not a 64-bit one. All of my programs except Reddit for Blind, Accessible Youtube Downloader, and TweeseCake are 32-bit, but only Reddit for Blind works on 7. I am still trying to get the others to work, but that may be an issue with this particular virtual machine.So, which should I do? Open the new machine, or just send in the old one?

You.com - Here is my final verdict: this organization is fundamentally incapable of delivering a basic, functional product. While the subsystems they use work just fine, their pathetic platform sits right in the middle, screwing everything up. Do not use You.com, and definitely don’t pay for a service that isn’t worth a cent and exists only to cause trouble and pain.
If you don’t believe me, go take a look at their support forum. And in case you need another reason to bail, let’s not forget they actively censor the place, scrubbing posts to hide any mention of the serious issues people are actually reporting.
The fact is that there's no way to fix broken companies or products. The flaw is a much deeper cultural and attitudinal problem within the organization. If their intention is not to make a working product, nor do they care about the results, it is what it is. The only sane option is to get rid of such services, because there's practically nothing else you can do.
