I did it!

I shot out of here and raced to the mountain. The air was rich with autumn and the approaching rain, not to mention last night’s rain.

For half the hike it drizzled. If in the open, the breeze was frigid.

As I reached my car the sky opened up.

The ridge itself dictated my direction.

All I had to do was make sure I found the trail when it exited the ridge.

Il 2026 porta con sé nuove iniziative che arricchiscono la celebrazione:

• Programmi di conservazione rafforzati: continuano i progetti internazionali per proteggere le quattro specie di tapiro esistenti, tutte considerate in pericolo di estinzione.
• Focus sul tapiro malese, il più raro e l’unico asiatico, con campagne dedicate alla tutela del suo habitat frammentato.
• Coinvolgimento del pubblico: come nel caso del Bioparc Fuengirola, che nel 2025 ha lanciato una votazione per scegliere il nome di un cucciolo di tapiro malese — iniziativa che nel 2026 viene riproposta da diversi parchi zoologici per sensibilizzare i visitatori.
• Nuove attività educative online: la community internazionale di World Tapir Day continua a crescere, con eventi digitali, dirette social e materiali informativi per far conoscere il ruolo ecologico dei tapiri, veri “giardinieri delle foreste”.

🌱 Perché i tapiri sono così importanti?

Oltre al loro aspetto buffo e preistorico, i tapiri svolgono un ruolo fondamentale negli ecosistemi tropicali: disperdono semi, modellano la vegetazione e contribuiscono alla salute delle foreste. Proteggerli significa proteggere interi habitat.

Endlich wieder #Bergluft geschnuppert!

Letztes Wochenende machten wir uns für 3 Tage auf ins beschauliche Val Vigezzo, das westlich vom Lago Maggiore liegt.

Wir erkundeten die Gegend sowohl auf dem Gravelbike als auch zu Fuß, um meinen immer noch nicht ganz gesunden Fuß nicht zu überlasten.

U.a. ging es auf den Pizzo Ruggia (2289m), der sich aufgrund des weglosen, ausgesetzten und felsigen Schlussanstiegs als superinteressante (und fast zu anspruchsvolle) Tour erwies.

Doch auch die #Wasserfälle in #Malesco mit ihren riesigen und eiskalten #Gumpen waren am letzten Tag eine sehr gelungene Halbtagesunternehmung.

Needed to escape from my head and get a win. So I did my 2nd hike yesterday up Pendle Hill over 1,800ft it was stunningly beautiful, challenging and peaceful in equal measure. The silence was something else, there was barely a soul about and the quiet and stunning views were something else. My mind completely emptied surrounded by the beauty and peace. I don’t know if I’m just picking the right time or places or both but my 2 hikes have been so quiet and solitary, it’s been perfect. I achieved a higher elevation so I got my win and absorbed so much beauty it made my heart beyond full.
