Yesterday: Cossonay -> Lausanne (via St Sulpice), 26km. #ViaFrancigena #Hiking #Switzerland
That was quite tough, mainly because of the distance and the occasional rain showers. But interesting. Cossonay has this beautiful little square where we got our pilgrim stamp (self-service) at the Temple of Cossonay. The route passed forests, meadows, followed along the Venoge river, and the lakeside, ending up in Ouchy, #Lausanne.

Frightfully hot dry windy yest. S pre-frontal flow ahead of upper trough. 30C in town strong wind 10-15% RH. Billings got to 35C 😔. Both daily, but not monthly heat records, close tho. No precip. w front overnite but much cooler today, felt great Lakefork Canyon survey gets directly into MT's highest terrain. From 2200m start, got 9K in to 2590m. Turned back continuous trail coverage. Some moisture more cooling next 5 days thank goodness. #climatecrisis #hiking #montana #dogs #mountains

Good day!
The first half of this morning’s walk was into a bitterly cold wind. On the way back, the sun emerged and the air became quite mild.
The only ones who didn’t seem to mind were this happy couple. I can see what she sees in him. He’s a smart dresser.
Be everwell.

May 14, 1983, 43 years ago today: We finally dragged our libidos, kicking and screaming, out of Wesser at 1:00. After crossing the tracks, the Appalachian Trail began a major ascent, rising more than 3000 feet from the gorge. It was the biggest climb yet on the AT. Nevertheless, the trail was well laid out, and we were now LEAN, MEAN MILEAGE MACHINES, so it was no big deal.#backpacking #hiking #landscapephotography #NorthCarolina #nature #forest #mountains #AppalachianTrail

The Calm Week
Reading Time: 2 minutesFor two or three weeks I was afraid of overdoing it, and then the bad weather came, and public holidays, and suddenly I’m resting more than I expected to. Yesterday would have been an exhausting ride if it had taken place, but due to fresh snow, wind and rain it was cancelled.
The result is that I was saving my energy for an event that never came so now I’m rested again and losing form. Form is easy to get back. Tomorrow I go for an “easy” run in Morges, if you like to wake at 04:30 to be ready to run at 05:50 and wait for the clock chimes to signal the signal of the start of the run. We could call it The Pavlovian Runners, for obvious subtextual reasons.
A hike was planned for Saturday but it was then cancelled, not because of the sixty percent chance of rain, but because of the wind. To some degree this makes sense, given how exposed that walk is. I was going to do an ambitious pre-group walk walk. Walk from Montreux to Caux, to join the group, and then walk with them for the next 15km. It would have been 1200m of climbing, and 18km or so of walking.
As usual I have the option of a ride from Nyon, another from Geneva, and a hike in the Valais by some interesting Geology. Saturday the weather is good for Geneva, but that would be a century ride. I’d ride 50km solo, and 50 with the group. Pacing is key. Staying in zone 2 works well.
A Good Opportunity
A hike is organised to the pyramids and I have been thinking of that project for years, at this point. It’s the geological feature in Valais. That’s a longish walk and it makes a nice change from all the cycling I have been doing. It also allows me to meet new types of people.
A Change of Pace
If I hike, rather than cycle or run, then I get back to one of my core sports. I like to hike, and with a different pace, conversations may flow more easily, especially if we take the train and talk on the way there, and back. In theory my decision will be made when I get snacks for the activity I choose.
