The coffee colour of the water was due to glacial flour, and the deep ripples in the lake show how windy it was.

The visibility was very good on that late October day. We'd parked at the top of Dyrhólæy and walked to the lighthouse while the wind was quiet, a rarity that week.
About 30 km/18.5 mi away was Steinafjall on the southern flank of Eyjafjallajökull. Leading up to it from our viewpoint were several black beaches in a line.
A sharp eye could even spot what was left of the Sólheimasandur DC-3 plane wreck, a white dot in the distance.

East Fork of the San Jan River
Rio Grande National Forest, COYes, this is the same river that flows out of the San Juan Mountains then across northern New Mexico and southern Utah before joining the Colorado River in Arizona above the Grand Canyon.
