  1. "Endless Beauty" — more #SaturdayScenery and this time, on the correct day of the week too! In my time zone, at least... 😜

A bloom of Desert Sand Verbena along the broad drainage of Carrizo Wash in southern Anza Borrego Desert State Park, California.

  2. White Canyon
    Bears Ears National Monument*, UT

Continuing my #SaturdayScenery series of 360º panoramas, if you click the following link you can see the location in all its glory: kuula.co/post/5m6y5

Part of White Canyon in Bears Ears National Moument, UT. You can see the bears ears on the horizon, dark on this rainy day. This is downstream from, and outside the boundary of, Natural Bridges National Park.

*at least it was part of Bears Ears NM. May still be, but haven't studied the new, sad boundaries, yet.

  3. Double Bend

Travelling north along the Eastfjords of Iceland on a beautiful day in mid-November. As we turn towards Fáskrúðsfjörður, the sun is as high as it will get today at only 6° above the southern horizon.

Lovely cloud shadows are chasing across the sparkling snow and highlighting the sweeping curves of Hoffelsdalur.

The tall peaks in the background are Hoffell at 1092 metres / 3583 feet and Lambafell at 1097 m / 3599 ft.

  4. "Juniper on Moraine" for #SaturdayScenery

Solitary Juniper on a moraine, with a view across the Owens Valley (Payahǖǖnadǖ) to the White Mountains, approximately 15 miles away from the little tree. Seen from the valley of McGee Creek in California's Eastern Sierra.

  5. South Tufa & Paoha Island, Mono Lake for #SaturdayScenery

This is Mono Lake in California's Eastern Sierra, with the South Tufa area and Paoha Island, in warm evening light after a summer thunderstorm. The dark spot on the left is Negit Island (both islands are of volcanic nature).

  6. Rio Grande and Ute Mountain
Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, NM

Something different this time for #SaturdayScenery This is a "still" from a full 360º aerial panorama that can be viewed here: kuula.co/post/5Jvxm

You have to view the pano to actually see Ute Mountain and look along the gorge. If I get positive feedback I will do this again on Saturdays. If not... oh, well.

  7. Overview

Early October, a day of mists and mountain-hugging clouds with hardly a breeze to disperse them. The air is moist and cool.

Reaching the top of the mountain pass down to the fjord, we stopped for a moment to appreciate the verdant beauty of the landscape below.

    Berufjörður in eastern Iceland.

  8. Over the years of living in Southern California, I've grown increasingly fond of the summer colors in the typical coastal sage scrub and chaparral landscapes here.

In this photo from August, diffused light on a hazy morning illuminates a sage scrub hillside with both evergreen and dry, summer-dormant shrubs as well as yellow patches of flowering tarweed.

  9. Lower Arch Canyon
    Bears Ears National Monument, UT

I always admire photographers who are able capture the details in the darker areas of their landscape images. So I'm delighted that I seemed to be able to do that with this aerial image captured in DJI raw.

  10. Everything you see here is currently on fire or has burned, best I can determine from the official maps. The Babylon fire is currently estimated at 104,525 acres and is 44% contained. Fire activity for the Babylon fire is expected to remain active. Cause has not be determined, but the extreme drought in the area cannot have helped.

[edited to update acres and containment for July 11, 2026]

  12. East Fork of the San Jan River
    Rio Grande National Forest, CO

Yes, this is the same river that flows out of the San Juan Mountains then across northern New Mexico and southern Utah before joining the Colorado River in Arizona above the Grand Canyon.

    #SaturdayScenery #photo #landscape #NationalForest #Colorado

  13. Rio de los Piños
    Carson National Forest, NM

Looking from above at the point where the small river flows out of a rocky canyon into a wider valley in far northern New Mexico. This is just below the "Green Chile Waters" posted two days ago.

  14. Head of the Canyon
    Vally of the Gods, UT

A view of the features found around the area where the road passes closest to the canyon. Wasn't ideal weather for photography.

    #SaturdayScenery #photo #landscape #travel #PublicLands #redrock #Utah

  15. Moki Dugway
    Bears Ears National Monument, UT

I'd already driven part way down when I leaned out my window to take this photo. Valley of the Gods is just out of frame to the left. You can just see the edge of Monument Valley through the haze on the horizon to the right.

There is so much hype and influencer scare mongering about this relatively easy and fairly wide gravel road. Yes, it clings to the cliff, and yes it's a long way down, but I've seen full sized RVs pulling trailers make it up with no problems.
