  1. This year is likely the year that I have to buy a real camera, so I have been watching reviews and trying to assess my likely needs. It's looking like it's going to be the .

That led me to @stalman 's video, which shows you how to add film looks in camera, which is a feature I thought was really cool from the Fujifilm X100VI:

  2. Yeah don't mind this lens. Not quite the reach I'm used to, but good enough!

Doing a little testing on the Lumix 100-500mm F5-7.1. Full frame telephoto zoom that's about the size and weight of a 70-200mm. Review on the way in a few weeks.

If nothing else I got a nice walk in :)

  3. I got some new #alloy #wheels and #tyres for the #GolfGTI - on these #Michelin Pilot Sport 5, #Bibendum also appears at various points around the circumference - where he is holding up his palm and pointing you to the pit lane to have your tyres checked, at these points there are several kinds of tread wear indicator!

  4. Earlier today we had a show down between Rolfie (one of our regular sulphur crested cockies) and a pair of Long-billed Corellas. But the corellas came back soon after!

Each year they arrive in spring and investigate various parts of the nearby buildings for possible nesting spots. Such is the challenge for city birds. Most will end up tearing into a palm tree or getting booted out by a Rainbow Lorikeet. It's a tough gig for a parrot in Melbourne.

  5. Will make this the final post from Sunday's walk. A touch of aloe.

Photography is a real gift, it gives me a reason to go out and take a walk. To get a little sunshine, or walk in the gardens, or watch a few of the birds. We still have a lot of nature at our doorstep, even here in the middle of the city.

  6. I have no idea what these flowers were. Felt like velvet. Lumpy and rich in tone. The bees liked them though. Maybe in the sage family from my recollection of the leaves.

  7. I had to include my favourite murder-bird in this thread. Such elegant little killers. I love that song, and the way they move as a group. They flow through a habitat. When they stare you down, you get a sense that there a lot going on behind those bold yellow eyes.

  8. This little chap likes to hang around the edge of the botanical gardens. Have seen him a few times. Always getting roughed up by ravens or currawongs. It's a hard life out there for a city lovin kookaburra.

  9. Same lens, this time up close on the pansy beds. The 10-25mm F1.7 is easily my favourite lens for MFT bodies.

  10. A certain kind of sunny. Winter light is a bit special, and the last few days have been still and clear like the calm before a storm. Cool and sunny, although perhaps not quite cool enough.

  11. I did plan to get some other work done, but sometimes just hanging out with trees is more important.

  12. The blossoms are out already. The air is cool, but it really feels like spring is underway. Was about 19°C today.

  13. Took a little walk today to help someone get familiar with their new LUMIX G9II. Tonnes of winter light and not a single cloud in the sky all day. Lucky to call this place my home.

  14. Walking through scrub in search of rock art. I found myself spending more time with the flowers and butterflies. The art has been there for thousands of years, yet the butterflies are momentary visitors!

  15. Sometimes the rock is the art. We were visiting a sneaky little Gwion Gwion art site and the light was dancing with the rocks. The folks who live up this way ask that people do not share images of the rock art itself, whether that be Wandjina or Gwion Gwion or other.

  16. Rock Fig.

Most of my macro shots from this series are captured on the LUMIX S9 with a 100mm Macro, but this moment was with the G9II and 100-400mm telephoto instead. You can still get some lovely bokeh without a macro lens :)

  17. Two ways to see the same moment, at f1.7 on a 20mm lens. Shot taken with the 10-25mm F1.7 zoom, a superb lens for MFT cameras. It's big, but beautiful. It's making this trip very rewarding indeed.

  18. Another very clear evening in #Bochum, Germany ... and so here is #ZTF again, close to a 9.75 mag. star and near #Aldebaran and the #Hyades: all images with a Panasonic #Lumix DMC-FZ300 at f/2.8 and various zoom settings (35 mm equivalent focal lengths given; images cropped moderately) - some more pictures are also in facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/p

  19. Can feel the moody side kicking in. The way sunset can fall under the weight of a storm.

This photo was taken in the days before the planet was transformed by covid. We were up in the Arctic, a million miles from the rest of the world. I wanted this moment to last forever.
