My son-in-law uses the "holzhausen" method of stacking firewood. Holzhausen means "wood house," referring to the house-like shape of the wood pile. See https://www.firewood-for-life.com/holz-hausen.html.
I prefer the traditional 4 by 4-ft linear woodpile (last photo) because it's easier to keep track of how much wood you have, as one cord is 4 by 4 by 8 feet. But the holzhausen is great if space is limited.

A few weeks ago, a tornado came through my favorite Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve, in Illinois, and I was finally able to make it there with my camera. It seems several trees have been knocked down and thus light that brings a new beauty of illumination to the wetlands. Here are a few pictures. Enjoy!
