  1. Our back-veranda birdbath attracts a wide variety of birds: Bluejays, pileated woodpeckers, doves, nuthatches, finches, bluebirds, orioles, even wild turkeys. And…the occasional young buck🦌 #pnw #wildlife

  3. Wow. #becu seems to have blocked access through vpn's. I've been with them for decades. This may spur me to find a different bank. What a hassle.

(I use a VPN to both prevent my ISP and wireless provider from tracking and selling my internet browsing behavior, as well as to prevent certain apps on my android devices from accessing the internet without good reason. I'm not giving this up.) #pnw

  5. Last photo from San Juan island. This is the other lighthouse, Lime Kiln Point, on the West coast facing #VancouverIsland . If you look carefully you can see an orca surfacing in the water off to the left. This is best place in the lower 48 states to see #orca whales but even here you don't see them just offshore like this every day. I got lucky.

  7. Some views of Cattle Point, San Juan Island National Historic Park. This is where the American military quartered their troops during the border dispute. No formal gardens here but look at those meadows full of thistles and pearly everlasting. Look at those gnarly contorted shore pines. Before white settlement the Samish Indians used this site to haul in vast quantities of salmon and they dried the meat in the sunny windy summer weather.

  9. A walk along the shore of San Juan island. A saltwater lagoon with a lot of driftwood and some blooming Puget Sound gumweed --Grindelia integrifolia, which is the coolest name, like a fairy tale character.

  11. Some San Juan island history: for a while in the 1800s both the US and British Canada laid claim to the island (the border treaty was unclear on which side of the island the border was to be drawn) and militaries of both nations established camps to support their claims. The British did so in part with a formal garden, parterres and all, for the enjoyment of their officers. It's still there, maintained as part of the historic site. #gardening #VancouverIsland

  13. Some photos from my recent trip to San Juan island, in Puget Sound, about two hours' drive plus an hour long ferry ride North of Seattle. Here's the picturesque town of Friday Harbor, with its attendant ferries. It has lots of cute little shops and restaurants (which I didn't photograph) and also this quirky storefront elm tree, which I did. #PNW #Island #ferry #Trees

  17. CW: USpol, Data center moratorium

Many people who live in the State of Oregon are trying to get our governor to pass a state wide moratorium on data centers. We have water crises in most of the state and quickly rising electric rates in the midst of high poverty rates that are climbing.

I know petitions are not the best tool, but they can show how much support an issue has. Boosts appreciated.

  21. Time to freeze the first batch of corn.

Cobs get boiled for 3 minutes, then into an ice water bath, drip dry, cut off the kernels and put into quart ziplock freezer bags. Tip - Don’t fill the bags too full. That will make it easier to break some off the frozen corn block for a meal.

  23. Hello fediverse, I need a job! I'm what you may call an unorthodox candidate. I don't have a college degree, certifications, or a resume that matches my real interests, and I'm principled. However, I'm also one of those people that constantly beats the odds and, when correct conditions are met, I seriously excel.
