Mushrooms season! What mad shit will appear this year?

When we moved in we had to get the extremely overgrown garden landscaped. Some old dude turned up and sprayed a “Quare Mix” that killed everything. It took years to recover and I hated what happened.

I knew things were properly on the mend when (on individual years) Orange Peel Fungus appeared, then pufffballs, shaggy ink caps, magics and one that turned blue when damaged.

Took the mid-80's Peugeot and loaded up some 80/90's panniers and handlebar bag to try a test ride with some weight. Still have the original (52/42) crank so there wasn't much help on the steep roads, especially the old Cat VI washed out ones. Of course ran across mushrooms. ":^)

Another big Chicken of the Woods fungus (Laetiporus) along Pierce Road, Harvard Forest. The largest one here was about 20 inches across.

Poland has one of the most developed wild mushroom eating culture in the west. I used to forage for wild mushrooms since the early childhood and I was eating them together with the adults. These days the health officials are saying that I'm not allowed to feed even the most basic wild mushroom to my daughter until she's 12. I can't shake the feeling that it's some sort of colonial culture war against the polish traditional food. My question to the eastern fedi friends, where the mushroom culture is way more developed than in Poland - what are the recommendations towards feeding the wild mushrooms to children in China or Japan? Do you also treat it this strictly or do you allow some of the most obvious and common ones on your children plate?
