  1. Bright pink crabapples. This tree was so odd: the crabapples were growing on short spurs all over the branches, so that it looked like a bright pink knobby mossy hedgehog tree. I couldn't get a good shot at it, but maybe I'll try again.

  2. Monty and I wandered through the P Patch after I verified that my green manure wasn't thriving (I left it too late, or the rainy season started too early, so straw time😁). I never noticed the memorial benches before.

  3. A visit to Matthews Beach Park, a petite pretty city park jammed in between houses and the road. The beach itself is a thin sand strip, but they have a annual polar bear swim there, and it's a popular swimming area. The park is full of trees and picnic tables actually under trees! The park is on a major biking trail, where sometimes you have to avoid avid bikers even in the middle of the day in the middle of the week

  4. She told me she was leaving

And wouldn't be back until tomorrow. (My daughter Laurie, the mycologist) Now I know why!

  5. Tulip trees (Liriodendron tulipifera) are one of my favorites, with their straight trunks and majestic shapes. Their leaves and flowers are pretty too. A native of eastern North America, it's a lovely park tree.

  6. These photos of the carving of Jack Skellington were processed to highlight the carving, so they're inconsistent colorwise
However, you can see that the pumpkin artiste had her work cut out due to those thick walls! This year the theme is cats. I am sure the effect at night is nicely spooky!

  7. The chestnuts are falling off the tree. Now, it's a race between humans and squirrels to grab the nuts from their vicious burrs. You need to wear thorn resistant shoes to walk in that mess.

  8. Another set of photos from the outside power hour. It's amazing how much there is to see without getting to insects. I think someone sprayed their trees in the neighborhood, because suddenly there has been a marked decrease in insects of all types, including wasps and honeybees

  9. Spent some time at the P-Patch, in the shade of the mulberry tree. Then we proceeded to the plot to clean up the old plants; it's fall time.

  10. Thai basil in my garden. Look at that long long white lower petal. The flowers almost look like a type of orchid. I like Thai basil because of the flavor, it's tough, pollinators like it, and it's pretty.

  11. Deliquescing: The garden is transforming into new substances as the rain wears away the aged flowers and grasses.

Appeal to sympathy for its decay”
