Today I share a Dandelion greeting card.

These little blooms are considered weeds most of the time. They grow where we don’t want them, usually.

But they’re also entirely edible, persistent, beautiful, and can be found almost all over the world. They have deep roots. And they rarely give up.

I think we have a lot to learn from these little flowers.

A long time ago, I was doing landscapes. I focused on waterfalls, and fell in love with the green and the water.

But these are painted, printed, packed, and posted by me (the artist) personally. These are Human-Made cards with Human-Made art, done by an independent artist keenly interested in helping people make connections with each other.

For me, this is more than sales or profit margins or giant corporations riding trends and hokey celebrity meme cards. I could do the lowest common denominator and make more money with stolen generated image schlock.

This is not that.

And these cards are not for folks who can’t tell or don’t care about the difference.

Where the art comes from that you share with others matters.

Got this one done on my livestream this afternoon: The Piglet, the Sheep, and the Goat.

In essence, the fable goes like this: A pig, a sheep, and a goat live together in a pen on a farm. The pig squeals every time the farmer sticks his hand in the pen. One day the sheep and the goat ask why the pig screams to much. “He handles us all the time and we aren’t hurt.”

The pig replies, “But for you, Mr. Sheep, the farmer only wants your wool. And for you, Mrs. Goat, he wants your milk. But there is only one thing he wants from me, and it will be my end.”

The moral being that perspective matters. That we can’t dismiss danger to others simply because we don’t experience it ourselves. That our lived experiences are not equal.

And I think that’s really really important in today’s society. We are experiencing what it’s like to forget that simple truth.

I really hope selling things in person works, because trying to develop a presence through social media simply doesn’t work anything like it used to.

I sold less than $1000 last year trying to grow. I love the Fediverse, but honestly it’s a particularly brutal platform for artists trying to get the word out and sell their stuff. I’ve seen more than 2/3 of the artists I had been following simply abandon it since I joined in the fall of ’23. Hundreds and hundreds of artists...

I have a few other shows I want to participate in, but they’re pricey (both are over $225 for their two-day events). I know it takes money to make money, but wow. We figured out I’d need to sell 60 cards at one and 90 cards at the other just to break even after expenses. I’ve only sold just under 125 cards all year…

So it’s gonna be challenging. And I’m one of the lucky ones, to be truthful. So I’ll keep adding stuff to my Goimagine shop (I just added 14 cards over the last 3 days) and I’m working on getting some additional items up. But we’ll see! Yoinks! it’s gonna be interesting… hehe…

But celebrate the victories, right? And I got in!!! Woohooo! One step at a time!

After a year and a half of putting it off, I finally—FINALLY—got my one of my very favorite bird images made into a greeting card.

I don’t know why I waited so long. I mean, I feel like it’s one of the best images I’ve ever done, so I’m puzzled with myself for not getting it done sooner.

I made this image on Oct 15, 2023. And I’ve consistently turned back to it as one of my portfolio pieces that I sometimes pin to my profiles on various platforms. Was I scared for some reason? Hm. I dunno.

My stylized Art Nouveau painting inspired by“Jack and the Beanstalk” is finally available as a greeting card in my shop on Goimagine!

I print them in my own studio on my own 8-color printer, then crease, package, and ship them to you directly. There’s no intermediary drop-shipping manufacturer involved. I do it all myself, and create each card as its ordered.

This piece is a richly textured abstracted illustration that I’m really proud of. I did it in Procreate without the assistance of any image generation ridiculousness. The piece took 9 hours to complete with 4714 strokes of my Apple Pencil. The front cover wraps around the spine to the back, and the interior is blank.
