🎂 Today is my birthday… but this year, I don’t feel like celebrating.
In the past, my birthday meant family laughter, hugs from my loved ones, a piece of cake, and beautiful wishes. Today, after everything we have been through, I find myself counting the years that have passed and wondering how much pain a person can endure.
The war has taken so much from us… our home, our safety, and so many dreams. It has left me trying every day to protect my family and provide them with the most basic necessities of life.
Yet, I still hold on to hope. 🤍
On my birthday, I don’t ask for a gift or a celebration… all I wish for is for this new year of my life to be kinder than the years before, to bring safety, peace, and happiness to my family, and for God to compensate us for everything we have lost.
May God make this new year the beginning of better days, not another year of pain. 🙏💔

W3 poetry prompt

For this week’s W3, Judy invites us to write a poem in which an old woman tries to blow out the candles on her birthday cake, but one remains lit and whispers a name she has not heard in forty years. The poem takes the form of her conversation with the candle and ends with her deciding whether to let it keep burning or put it out.
