Had some KMFDM pop in my head yesterday so that means a listen today. I like Money and some of their earlier and a little of their more recent, but my sweet spot (and what in doing now) will always be Nihil from 1995, Xtort from 1996 and Symbols from 1997. What a RIDICULOUS three year punch of perfect, banger records. And lots of Ogre from Skinny Puppy on those.

I remember how excited I was when this came out in ‘97. I had just spent a year and a half obsessing over Adrenaline, and was really hoping that Around The Fur would be just as good.
Was it ever.Not only was it good, it was superior in EVERY way, and took a huge creative leap forward.
It is somehow HEAVIER, but also super atmospheric and dreamy.
It’s more melodic, the guitars are down-tuned and absolutely pummeling, and Chino’s lyrics and voice are emotional and soaring.This is their first GREAT record, and it would only get better from here, because White Pony was on the horizon.
I still feel like The Deftones are underrated.
They’re huge, and people love em, but I feel it’s not enough.

2025 UK 4xCD Box SetI was DEEPLY saddened to learn of the passing of L7’s Jennifer Finch from brain cancer.
Really awful news.So, I’m pulling this great Cherry Red set out in her honour, as L7 were a significant part of that particular brand and era of music, and because my second favorite L7 song is on here (“Shove”).
I LOVE this set.
Some interesting choices here to go along with the usual suspects.
All the grunge-a-riffic Seattle bands (minus an obvious few due to licensing issues I’m sure), as well as legendary tentpole #80s bands like Husker Du, The Replacements, Dinosaur Jr., Superchunk, and more.Even “Sex Type Thing” is on here, which may seem like an odd choice, but it’s 100% completely appropriate.
Pour some of your 40 out for Jen Finch today.

1995 U.S. CD issueA wonderful find this morning from a random thrift visit!
This was SEALED; with both the sleeve and disc in flawless condition.Due to stupid and moronic contractual bullshit, these killer two songs could not be included on Mirror Ball, the record Pearl Jam made with Neil Young.
THESE were PJ-lead songs written by them with Vedder on vocals. Despite being forced to release it as their own single, it’s just an extension of Mirror Ball.
“I Got Id” is one of Pearl Jam’s best songs PERIOD, and Neil Young’s guitar work on it is absolutely savage.
The b-side “Long Road” is pretty good, but in no way is it on the same level as “I Got Id”.Love that I finally own this, but NOW I need to find the 7” single version.

Stumbled across this gem the other day, perfect for #MusicWomenWednesday. Condor44 was formed in 1999 by guitarist/vocalist Hiroshi Sasaki and drummer Nobuyuki Ajima who met while attending college. They put out a couple records in the early 2000s and are supposedly still together.. this is the excellent title track "db" from their 2002 record of same name.

2016 U.S. Remastered ReissueA little High School senior year sentimentality for last spin of the night.
THIS is where my love for Weezer ends.Seriously. It’s unfathomable to me why anybody would need (or want to listen to) anything other than their first two records.
They STILL sound so unbelievably good. After the band “lost” Matt Sharp, they lost a significant part of what made the first two albums great.
“Tired Of Sex” and “Getchoo” might be the most badass opening 1-2 punch of any record of the #90s .
As much as I love and adore Pinkerton, I could never put it over the Blue Album.
That record was one of those right place, right time lightning in a bottle-type records for me as a kid.

I've actually never heard of " #OrientalMetal " before
#Genre was maybe the wrong word to use before (not sure if I should go back and change it?) the geographic label is more just a "category" that overlaps with genre and style.

But that isn't simple either… it could be a language category if not for the English Language band "Emigrate" featuring #RichardKruspe from #Rammstein … and one track from "Oomph!" in English
and it doesn't work as a national category because it features #Nachtmar from #Austria and #Laibach from #Slovenia (both a bit problematic) but at least they didn't include the bands from the USA that use some #German in their lyrics? (often less problematic, just not very German)
maybe "German Metal" works as a "theme"?
I'm not sure if "Arab metal" works as a category at all? Maybe "Arabic metal" including a few related tracks like that "German metal" list?
