2017 U.S. 12” EP @ #45rpmBack in 2017, one of my three favorite bands of the #90s reunited and released this awesome 3-song E.P..
The 20 years off had no effect on their badassery.
These 3 songs nestle in perfectly with their pair of nineties studio albums quite nicely.
The guitars on “Blank In The Blaze” are quintessential Chavez, and the closing track “The Bully Boys” has an almost meaty, ballsy, Middle Eastern feel to it.
A beautiful, shining explosion that’s over and done in less than 10 minutes.
All hail Chavez.

2025 U.S. reissueOh man. This had been on my want list for a very long time, and I finally got one.
One of my most listened to albums in high school; a great one start to finish.
My HS band even had a few attempts at “Backwater”, to no avail. We could never quite get it. Stupid teenagers. 😂
A lot of these 90s records are getting reassessed; due to a lot of them pushing 30+ years old, and this reissue was looooong overdue.

Huge thanks to whoever gave me this link to when Curt and Cris from the Meat Puppets played acoustic songs on Tempe, Arizona radio station KUKQ in 1990 (so young - only a band for about 10 years at this point, but still, preparing to play with Peter Murphy).
They do a few songs with a mini interview - the first song is an instrumental version of a song they'd later record with lyrics, 'That's How It Goes' that Curt had JUST written, it didn't even have a title at that point- and he plays it on a 12 string he wasn't even familiar with. Just fuckin awesome. Then they do 'Plateau', 'One of These Days', 'If You've Got the Money, I've Got the Time' (the interview) and 'Candy Hearts', a George Jones cover. And the host Jonathan mentions a Smithereens CD at the end! Epic.
