Let’s say that you tomorrow, you’re going to magically have the ability to send a message back to your past self. You’ve got 24 hours to plan what you’ll say, but you’re limited to just three words. This is a one-time opportunity—no take backs, no second chances, no refunds. Oh, and to prevent cheating, we’ll say there’s a 32 character limit.
At first, you probably think about sending a message of hope.
“Just be yourself.” That’s a classic.
Or maybe something like: “It’ll be okay.”
I mean, three words isn’t exactly enough space to explain any particular situation or give instructions to solve a challenging life puzzle, but I guess it would be nice to know that everything eventually works itself out.
When it comes down to it, however, most people would probably end up sending a message about money. We all want more money, don’t we?
“Invest in Monster.” Apparently they’re the best-performing publicly traded stock in recent decades, with more than an 800,000% return. That could be a pretty massive win. Or maybe you want to go with one of the classic tech giants. “Invest in Apple.” That’s a solid bet.
But… without more detail, that could be confusing to your younger self. In what type of apples, exactly, are you supposed to invest? Granny smith? Golden delicious? Fuji, perhaps?
Obviously, we can’t send messages like that back in time. That would be impossible.
But…
Hang on, let me put on my silly hippy hat.
There is one thing you can send back in time: love.
And oddly enough, it’s really easy. Go ahead, try it. Think of one of the darkest times in your life. Picture what you looked like in that moment—like, really picture it. Now connect with that past version of you and send them some love.
Congratulations, you just helped yourself through that difficult time.
Yep. That’s the answer. Just love yourself.

Before I get into much else, let me start with the ask.
That’s me, my first book, and a fancy microphone. I’m looking to book myself a few more podcast appearances this year. If you know of any shows where I’d be a good fit, please let me know.
This was a crazy week. From the other side of things, where I am the host, I booked like 6 people for future episodes of M3. In the past, it made me feel super anxious to have more than one person scheduled per month. But don’t worry guys, the rest of Season 4 is going to be awesome (although, yes, I’m way behind on writing the articles).
I put some new strings on my classical guitar. His name is Bob. If you’d like to watch that process, you can check out this short video I made. But I’ve tried to take a few small moments to play, which has been nice.
On Tuesday, Selene and I went to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day. We had a deal through T-Mobile where the tickets were only $5. And we also got tacos.
Not because tacos have anything to do with Spider-Man, but because tacos have everything to do with Tuesdays. Overall, I would rate the movie as: pretty enjoyable.
While we’re on the topic of movies, let me quickly mention two other films we watched recently. Mandalorian and Grogu: trash. Leviticus: garbage.
In the realm of scholastic achievement, I finished my summer semester. Huzzah. This week is now my “break” before fall classes start.
Much of my work time was focused on finishing a video about scams that are targeting authors, artists, and musicians today. If you’re a creative-ish type of person, go give it a watch. And if nothing else, we can all join together and take solidarity in our mutual annoyance at stupid emails.
On Saturday, I focused on the Lion’s Gate. I listened to a guided meditation by Christopher Penczak. It was a very interesting experience. I chose Saturday because it was supposedly the peak, but people say its high point lasts until August 12… meaning there’s still time for you to observe it.
On Sunday, I got to meet Maximilian Raphael Paul, senior member and deputy of the OTA. It was a pretty cool conversation.
Later, and completely unrelated to the above, there was a tart.
I’m not saying I made the tart. I’m just saying there was a tart.
Well, there’s still half a tart. It was a very good tart.

On Saturday, we went to Gallo Santo — the only vegan Mexican restaurant in Barcelona, which I love and highly recommended.
Yesterday, we ate them at home — I’m lucky to have a Mexican-born man (@edgaramaya) as my husband, who is also an excellent cook.
