The wonderful roof of Langley Chapel, #Shropshire, completed in 1601. In the 16th C the chapel was built for the Burnell family, probably replacing one built in the 1300s. It's a little rectangular building standing alone in a field. Last used in the 19th C, it escaped restorers.

In the shadow of the church, which is around 800 years old, you find yourself completely immersed in a mysterious atmosphere and a sense of reverent curiosity centred on the 7th-century Holy Spring and the yew tree, which is around 1,600 years old.
