At 11,973 feet above sea level, Sierra Blanca is the tallest peak in the Sacramento Mountains, with spectacular views of the lower peaks and the Tularosa Basin. From the peak you can see where the black lava flows of Valley of Fire stops right before the dunes of White Sands begins. Stark contrast.
Most of the Sacramento Mountains are limestone. Sierra Blanca is the sole volcano.

Located on the rim of White Rock Canyon, White Rock Overlook is a viewing area offering 270-degree panoramas of the Rio Grande meandering through a rugged canyon, with stunning vistas of volcanic cliffs and distant mountains. Excellent spot for sunrise and sunset. Worthy detour if you are visiting Los Alamos or Bandelier National Monument.
