Highway to Hull: Great Songs That Never Were 🛣️
Highway to Hell is a famous 1979 song by generic rock band AC/DC. The song is famous for being about highways, Hell, and hedonistic rock and roll lifestyles. It is an okay song.
But did you know there was a 1980 single called Highway to Hull? It’s about the debauched, depraved lifestyles of those whom are heading to the port city of Hull in East Riding of Yorkshire. Truly, it is a modern day masterpiece.
Satan and Northern England in Highway to Hull
Hull, arguably one of the UK’s most underrated cities, which is way it the song was written by Hull-based thrash metal band ABCD. Look at these incredible lyrics:
No stop signs, speed limit,
Nobody’s gonna slow me down,
Like a wheel, gonna spin it,
Nobody’s gonna mess me around,
Hey, Satan, payin’ my dues,
Playin’ in a rockin’ band,
Hey, mama, look at me,
I’m on the way to the promised land, woah,I’m on the highway to Hull,
Highway to Hull,
I’m on the highway to Hull,
Highway to Hull. Some contemporary critics noted the lyrics were exactly the same as AC/DC’s song (Highway to Hell), apart from the change of the location (from the place of punishment in the afterlife, to the sleepy city of Hull in Northern England).
However, the band ABCD rejected such a claim.
Pale and malnourished English people lapped the song up, storming it into the UK charts into 25th, before peaking at 23rd, then back to 25th, then up to 24th the following week, back up to 23rd the week after that, then it plummeted out of the charts for good.
It was to be ABCD’s biggest ever UK hit, although the song did storm to No. 1 in the charts over in Barbados (for unknown reasons to this day). As of August 2026, the band live off royalties the song makes, which is enough to afford them all a lifestyle of cheap cigarettes, low-quality lager, and a single bedroom apartment with mould on a wall in Hull.
The Infamous ABCD Live Stubbed Toe and Satan Incident
Notoriously, in a September 1980 performance of the song Highway to Hull, backing vocalist and bassist John Smith stubbed his toe. It hurt so much he began a barrage of obscene swearing, including the f bomb amongst others, but also uttered the word “hell”.
This immediately triggered Satan to directly contact AC/DC and issue a complaint of plagiarism of their song.
Armed with Satan Himself as a legal guardian and demonic defence lawyer, the Australian rock band came down like a tonne of bricks on ABCD, Hull, and its various highways. Many in the region were raised in the subsequent carnage.
Indeed, to this day there’s no direct motorway into the city limits of Kingston upon Hull.
Instead, the city endures merely one primary strategic trunk highway (the A63). This acts as the location’s only lifeline connecting it to the UK’s national motorway network.
This devious act was named the 135th most demonic thing Satan has ever done in the history of time.

Yesterday, I dropped into the library and picked up High Windows, Philip Larkin's brilliant poetry collection. I became interested in Larkin when I went to university in Hull. He had been the librarian at the university, but died just after I arrived so I never saw him. He was legendarily reclusive, so I probably wouldn't have seen him anyway!
High Windows has one of his most famous poems:
This Be The Verse
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself. -

"Forgotten battle saw Blackshirts driven out of Hull
Behind a modern shopping centre stands a patch of ground where wild flowers and tall grasses grow. But on this peaceful spot 90 years ago, thousands of people gathered to drive the leader of Britain's fascist Blackshirts out of town.
(. . .)
The Hull Daily Mail report described 'violent scenes', 'stone throwing' and 'free fights.
'Many people were injured, including several Blackshirts, who were afterwards treated for their hurts at an Anlaby Road garage where their cars had been parked,' the reporter wrote.
(. . .)
The political picture in 1936 was feverish. In March, Adolf Hitler ordered German forces to reoccupy the Rhineland, which had been demilitarised after World War One, while in May, Italian forces completed the conquest of Ethiopia.
'Days after Corporation Field,' Collins says, 'the Spanish Civil War broke out.'
(. . .)
Power says the Battle of Corporation Field is 'hidden from history'.
'It's amazing that 10,000 people turned out and stopped Mosley from speaking in Hull,' he says.
'Everyone's heard of Cable Street, but before Cable Street there was Hull, when we showed that fascism isn't welcome here.'
Krantz argues that the Battle of Corporation Field, and other events like it, held Mosley back."

"Calls to commemorate Battle of Corporation Field
RUN OUT OF HULL: British Union of Fascists leader Oswald Mosley, right, pictured with Italian fascist Benito Mussolini
Labour councillors will propose a motion next week calling on the city council to commemorate the 1936 Battle of Corporation Field as the event nears its 90th anniversary.
On July 13, 1936, Oswald Mosley and the British Union of Fascists were run out of the city by a crowd of anti-fascists, socialists, trade unionists and members of the city’s Jewish and Irish communities, when they attempted to hold a rally at Corporation Field.
While similar events that happened in the 1930s at Holbeck Moor in Leeds, Stockton in Stockton-on-Tees, and most famously at Cable Street in London, all have their own memorials, the Battle of Corporation Field does not. The motion calls for the leader of the council, Councillor Mike Ross, to allocate funding from his contingency fund to kick-start the process of organising a memorial."

Ok, I'm back to making models with Surface Psycho. It's been a while since I did anything in #Blender. Anyway, after a lot of testing and experimenting, for now I've decided to do the G1 and G2 continuity alignments between NURBS patches manually, without all the parameters, I find that works better for me. #SurfacePsycho #CAD #boat #design #freecad #b3d #hull #ship #Blender3d

Anti Material Sniper Rifle
A lot of fun is made in this video, with some serious antimaterial sniper rifles. Instead of talking a lot about them, I invite you to have a look at the video. It's fun to watch
facts:
A sniper rifle is a high-precision, long-range rifle. Requirements include high accuracy, reliability, mobility, concealment, and optics, for anti-personnel, anti-materiel and surveillance uses by military snipers. The modern sniper rifle is a portable shoulder-fired rifle with either a bolt action or semi-automatic action, fitted with a telescopic sight for extreme accuracy and chambered for a high-ballistic performance centerfire cartridge.
20th century
During the Second Boer War, the latest breech-loading rifles with magazines and smokeless powder were used by both sides. The British were equipped with the Lee–Metford rifle, while the Boers had received the latest Mauser Model 1895 rifles from Germany. In the open terrain of South Africa, the marksman was a crucial component in battle. The Lovat Scouts was a British Army unit formed in 1899 that was renowned for the expert marksmanship and stalking skills of its personnel. The men wore ghillie suits for camouflage and were expertly skilled in observation. Hesketh Hesketh-Prichard said of them that "keener men never lived".[5] After the Boer War, the Scouts became the first official sniper unit in the British Army.
