Decided to run up the “hill” behind the house after work today. It ended up being a 10k run, with 900 meters of elevation. So I’m pretty chuffed I pulled that off! But am slightly concerned about how my legs will feel tomorrow. #running #trailrunning

I was pretty happy with my #Orienteering run today! There were few landmarks to help navigate properly. The map wasn’t up-to-date, nor was it an O map, just a basic hiking map on a tiny 1:25,000 scale. More than before, I followed the bearing consistently, no matter how steep or impassable the terrain was. And I counted my steps the whole time. You won’t get far here any other way. For me, that’s a whole new level of confidence!

workout of the day:

2x2000 rowing - interrupted in the middle by urgent business call - a pretty solid session.

HR stayed very low - i suspect issue with HR monitor. during my last run, HR was suspiciously high.

3x kine workout - basically normal plank, side plank and the kind of plank where you (try to )raise opposite arm and leg without flipping over.

tummy muscles not happy.

Some days ago I took part in the rookie run of Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival.

This would have been my second trailrunning event and a very good test for the T33 Trail at the Montafon-Arlberg Marathon, which takes place at the end of June, if I hadn't had to pause my training for a total of about two and a half months due to three different injuries since Christmas. As it was, it was still an absolutely spectacular experience to participate in such a large event for the first time. It certainly won't be the last.

Well Erykha Badu your absolutely brilliant album Baduizm isn't an album to be losing a lung or two on a 1800m high Pyreneean mountain top to. It is more a sitting next to a log fire while looking at a Pyreneean mountain top album.

As we were going up, the 250m directly up, we were passed going downhill by two clearly local runners storming down. I kept an eye on them and they were zooming along the bit of flat trail that I deemed to be rough and near un-runable.

Back from a trail run in the Bavarian Alps.

I love being out at dusk and after dark. Your visual world narrows to the beam of the headlamp, the last light, and the stars. But everything else feels sharper: the smell of damp forest, the sound of crickets in the meadows, the sudden warm air on your skin when you reach an alpine pasture, streams running in the dark and tawny owls calling.

And tonight, this alpine salamander suddenly appeared in the light.

It has been delightfully cool this spring, perfect for the huskies to keep running as things green up around us. I'm still a bit cautious about trail running after previous injuries, but I do hope to keep at it, especially now that my work schedule has lightened up a bit.

Zeena and Tonttu were happy to pick up the pace somewhere other than our neightborhood paths, and to pounce and sniff and get muddy whenever possible.

#Boulder-area trail peeps: Boulder County is considering doing an alternating-use pilot study (limiting certain days to bike only or foot/horse only).

IMHO, this is a solution looking for a problem. Conflicts are rare and this is going to result in a massive decrease in number of OS visitors because no one can figure out if it’s a bike day or a foot travel day (like certain places in Jeffco).

Beautiful weather, a lot of interesting trails around here. I looked up the course of the Austerlitz Trail and did the green loop. A lot of trees, single track, bush tracks, sand path.... It was fun 😁.
The pyramid was closed for renovations 😕 and I ran into forrest workers taking down trees 😲.

Made good training progress in januari.
Fitness less increased from 34 to 40 and still rising.
Goal is 45 on 15 march when I will run the Vuurtoren Trail, 35km. That goal is well in reach.

After my injury I did training different this time. Less frequent running (2-3/wk) and more on the bike and rower.
A new strength plan is in place with the use of #hevy app.

And the fun part is that training planning and coaching is done with Claude AI.
Good start of the year!

Yesterday, 20 km of #Trailrunning across the #Schöpfl “glacier,” 893 m, with 1,200 m EG. The tour would not have been possible without spikes shoes like our #Icebug. In glorious -5°C weather, we ran once along the entire ridge from east to west, and crossed it once from north to south. We encountered #IcelandicHorses which are actually quite hardy, but they didn't find the strong wind very pleasant.

@Werschweinchen inspired me to make a wrapup post myself.

I'm really content with how 2025 went down: First and foremost I'm father of a healthy child now and experienced lots of exciting new things this year. Coming to the sporty side 2025 was a more active year for me than 2024 and as a result I lost about 10 kilograms.

Let's look at some stats:

- I ran 588 km (cumulative elevation gain 5500 m) in 66 hours and 7 minutes (in Germany and Austria).
- I cycled 567 km (cumulative elevation gain 8600 m) on my gravel bike in 29 hours and 21 minutes (all in Germany).
- I hiked 462 km (cumulative elevation gain 13700 m) in 105 hours and 29 minutes (in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy).
- I had 529 rides in public transit accumulating to more than 13000 km in roughly 228 hours (in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy).

I'm hyped about all the adventures, challenges and wonders waiting in 2026.
