  3. @primonatura What a terrible man killer?
What if the heat waves also reach out to the rest of the world if European countries are losing 35000 people dead!
Why can't we stand upright together and fight against this!
And we can only do this through conserving environment and the climate starting with what we can like tree planting

  6. A very bad year for #blackberries - and now the #elderberries come too in dried form ...
Depending of the region, also the fruit harvest is very bad. Or fruits come too early, too small, and can't be kept long.

  7. If you have a similar #drought and extreme #heatwaves like here in eastern France, you probably watch this phenomenon: all-year blooming #roses didn't develop new #flower buds, but suddenly and too early #rosehips.
This rose never had rosehips and usually blooms until November!

This is a #survivalMode of many #plants. They focus all their energy in seed production for the survival of their species. If the drought persists, the mother plant dies.

  8. #ClimateDiary Major flash floods in Nepal, hundreds missing. The footage here is truly terrifying. #Nepal

Also: please note the “including foreign tourists”. Euphemism for: “the humans who truly count”.

  9. #ClimateDiary A new term I learned recently and have to log here: #FalseAutumn. All those trees already hsving brown leaves ans shedding them in August: that’s what it describes. Saw this everywhere on holiday in France and back here in Sussex (UK) too.

  10. I usually don't like the "growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell" idea. An economy isn't the same as a cell, you need to point to an underlying reason why it wouldn't work. But as the years go by, I care less and less about the correctness of the quote and think it serves a good purpose.

  11. Fishers operating off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia, are detonating more than 8,000 underwater explosives each year, researchers estimate. The practice is turning picturesque coral reefs to “rubble.” Read more on E360 →

  12. In the supermarket, shelves are bare, with large signs reading: no leafy #vegetables, no #lettuces. The #crops are scorched by the sun or didn't grow at all due to the #droughts and extreme #heat. #Fruit is more expensive than ever. Too hot, too dry, or destroyed by extremely big hail. Even a simple baguette is again 10 cents more expensive (wheat failures).
Poor people are the first to be hit by crop failures.

  13. By the way, climate researchers consistently say that this region of NYS is probably better set up to deal with climate disruptions than most places in the USA. If that's something you have on your mind. For some reason.

  14. One thing I've always found irksome in the whole individual/consumer responsability vs producers in the climate debate, is that it's a looping argument.

Sure, we can't count on all individuals to stop eating meat by themselves, but all individuals will have to stop eating meat at some point. It's no reason to avoid doing the correct thing.
