  1. The campaign to restore the Everglades has received a boost with completion of a key project that returns the flow of water to 55,000 acres that had once been drained for development. Experts see it as a major step forward in bringing back South Florida’s River of Grass. Read more on E360 →

  5. I think one of the most beautiful texts in #marxism (to me at least) is Rosa Luxemburg's 'Order Prevails in Berlin'. It was the last piece she wrote, a few hours before she was brutally murdered by the counter-revolutionary, proto-fascist Freikorps. In it, she expresses an eternal hope for the future, how every defeat of socialism is just another lesson learned on the path to inevitable victory. If not now, then tomorrow, or maybe next year, or some future generation, but victory nonetheless.

It's a hope, a certainty, that no longer exists, in my mind, thanks to the capitalist-induced #ClimateCrisis

Though, to be sure, this doesn't imply defeatism, but should urge us to built our struggle on post-hope foundations.

  6. Scientists are increasingly worried that a vast system of ocean circulation, which delivers warmth to northern Europe and impacts climate globally, is at risk of collapse. Mounting evidence suggests it may be nearing a tipping point, though the research is far from certain. Read more on E360 →

    Hoffentlich kommende Woche wieder!

  9. Freshwater flooding has caused over half of all direct hurricane deaths since 2013. The threat will increase as climate change makes hurricanes wetter and potentially slower-moving.

  10. @Broadfork @Hellybootwader The same situation here. I have "diaries" for my appointments where I note the daily weather and very typical nature cycles, e.g. first bloom of dandelions, cherry, or elder trees, returning birds, birds leaving before the winter, etc. It's eye-opening to compare the years.
And I do something like you with my #miniBouquet but it's less exact.

  11. #Alsace #France The weather’s gone haywire. For quite a while now, the forecasts have been predicting thunderstorms, or rain. Instead, the sun sets against an orange sky, and during the day, hides behind yellowish-grey clouds that just won’t let the rain fall.
A sky colour like pee, without any drop.
In the fields, the seeds won’t sprout, the seedlings are withering away.
Also the wind system is broken: wind directions typical for autumn produce sand storms in the fields.

Another one for the #ClimateDiary and sounds like the relative lack of rain is affecting a large area of Europe (especially after reading the comments below). ☹️

  14. In an epic three-part documentary series, Frontline investigates the decades-long failure to confront the threat of climate change and the role of the fossil fuel industry.

Part One charts the fossil fuel industry’s early research on climate change and investigates industry efforts to sow seeds of doubt about the science.

Part Two explores the industry’s efforts to stall climate policy, even as evidence about climate change grew more certain in the new millennium. And as leading climate scientists issue new warnings about climate change.

Part Three examines how the fossil fuel industry worked to delay the transition to renewable energy sources — including by promoting natural gas as a cleaner alternative.

  21. @RickGaehl I remember hanging eggs on them in my childhood. Since climate change, they bloom much earlier than even an early Easter in Alsace. Only this year we have luck because the cold with minus degrees conserved them.

  22. #ClimateDiary #Potholes 2/2
These are just some of the examples of potholes in neighbouring streets (one a campaign photo). We used to laugh a bit at people complaining about potholes but they are now everywhere, really big, and cause a lot of damage. I encounter them mainly as a cyclist: really dangerous for us, too! Anyway, i am kind of interested as a very “English” manifestation of conjunction of climate change, infrastructure failures, and behaviour (heavier vehicles). #TheCrumble

  23. #ClimateDiary Through canvassing #Potholes are pretty prominent in my mind atm. For those of you not in the UK: potholes have become a focal point in UK local, even national politics. A bit of a cliche etc but they are, indeed, terrible - and getting much worse due to climate change (will add some of my own pictures below). Would be interesting to know how bad they are in other countries?

  24. Nine states had their warmest winter ever recorded

In addition to a lack of snowfall compared to the historical average, these nine states had their warmest year on record.

By Jesse Ferrell, Mar 11, 2026

"Winter barely showed up the way it usually does for millions of people from #Oregon to #Texas. Nine states logged their warmest meteorological winter on record, defined as Dec. 1 through the end of February. These dates are agreed upon by meteorologists for record-keeping and comparison purposes, but the historical average dates of the lowest temperatures varies from city to city.

"NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information, which has records back to 1895, said this winter was the warmest in Oregon, #Nevada, #Arizona, #Utah, #Wyoming, #Colorado, #NewMexico, Texas and #Oklahoma."

  25. 50-year-old temperature record broken in #BangorME during spring #HeatWave

by Leela Stockley, March 10, 2026

"A spring heat wave that has brought temperatures in the 50s and 60s across much of the state for the past few days smashed a daily temperature record in Bangor on Tuesday.

"According to the Caribou office of the National Weather Service, a high temperature of 70 degrees was recorded in Bangor Tuesday afternoon, topping a daily record of 62 degrees set nearly 50 years ago. That daily high temperature record was set in 1977.

"That marks the third day in a row that the Queen City has experienced record high temperatures: A daily record high of 59 degrees was observed Monday, tying a record high set in 2016, and a daily record high of 60 degrees was observed Sunday, beating out a high of 59 degrees set in 2012.

"It is also the earliest that Bangor has ever recorded a 70-degree day in the history of record keeping, which dates back to 1925. The previous earliest recorded temperature at or above 70 degrees was on March 18, 2012, when Bangor reached 76 degrees."

    [...]

"The high temperatures and sunshine won’t be sticking around, as northern Maine faces a winter storm warning rolling in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Daytime temperatures across the state are expected to be significantly cooler than Tuesday’s conditions, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s."
