In light of Trump renaming (within the US) Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, and posting a meme about renaming New Mexico to New America, I found a list on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._places_named_after_non-U.S._places) of the US places named after foreign places to see what he might rename next. There are lots. All of the places that'll be named America, New America is going to get confusing. 😉

Way back in 1912 my home was trying to become a state. The problem was we were brown and the US was super racist. Congress suggested that if our name sounded whiter we might have better luck and sent our application for statehood back. Continuing a tradition that started in 1680 we said "yeah, no" and sent the same application back except now with provisions for conducting education and government in Spanish. @jerzone in #NewMexico, our grasshoppers are popping off and everywhere. We see one every ten feet or so on our walks. This bad boy made it into the curtains inside the house. No idea how he got in.

It's cool and rainy here today. Almost feels like fall. I'm craving pumpkin empanadas. The New Mexican kind, fried with lots of spices and piñoles. But they don't have them down here. The Lincoln County War lasted from 1878 to 1881. Two wealthy businessmen, Lawrence Murphy & James Dolan, ran a powerful business monopoly known as "The House."
