I was gifted my first camera by my gf @0x76 for our anniversary. <3
I know very little about #photography besides that rule of thirds thing.
She got me Canon EOS 6D which is a DSLR with a 35-105mm lens. I had to go to MediaMarkt to get a 250gb SD Card because I haven't ever had one before.
I learned about what RAW files are and that I need to use some software like Lightroom or Photoshop to edit them. Apparently, using the software is also where a lot of the art and skill can come in.
Yesterday, I was able to go to a park (Paardenveld) in #utrecht around sunset because I've heard that's when all the cool photographers take to the streets and I took a hundred or so photos.
Today, I am sick so instead of going outside I decided to go the FOSS route with #darktable and maybe I'll finally learn GIMP too. I was super relieved to realize that my ThinkPad T480 is perfect because it has an SD Card slot built in <33 The Darktable install was so easy on NixOS with comma.
I'm looking forward to learning more about photography and tracking down some birds to post on Mastodon.

We hit 40.61℃ (105.1℉) yesterday during the volunteer workday. We did finish the task, but is was a bit on the brutal side. Did not see or hear a Acadian Flycatcher, but did see several Osprey and Cuckoos. The surprising news was that it seems the Prothonotary Warblers have migrated out early. Since they prefer wetlands and tend to stay close to water, that makes some sense. We are in a flash drought, going from no-drought to D1 - Moderate drought in 2 weeks. Looks like this heat dome will hang around for a while - yuck.
