Some Canadiana from my life:

My first voiceover / voice actor gig was narrating Colonel John McRae's poem In Flanders Fields for the local TV station Remembrance Day broadcast.

I was nine.

(How I got the gig is a different and long story not for Fedi.)

I read the poem over and over, like a pro: can you go a little faster, slower, etc.

I got it it to the needed time to a fraction of a second.

I still know all the words to this day. It has never left me.

Wort der Woche 5: Holocaust

Heute am 27. Januar ist Internationaler Tag des Gedenkens an die Opfer des Holocaust. Mit dem Begriff Holocaust bezeichnet man die Vernichtung von Juden und Jüdinnen im Nationalsozialismus. Häufig wird dafür auch der Begriff Schoah verwendet. Die nationalsozialistische Herrschaft dauerte in Deutschland von 1933–1945 und in Österreich von 1938–1945. Ihr wichtigstes Ziel war die Ausrottung der Juden und Jüdinnen. Bei der Wannseekonferenz im Jänner 1942 die „Endlösung der Judenfrage“ beschlossen. Die Ermordung von jüdischen Menschen begann aber schon früher.

Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we recall one of history’s darkest chapters.

I never thought I’d witness the resurgence of antisemitism in my lifetime, nor feel uneasy about my heritage.

As someone who teaches Hebrew and Israeli culture, I see the importance of remembering history to foster understanding and respect.

Now more than ever, we must stand together, hold onto our values, and commit to a world of safety and peace for all.
