  1. @sandorspruit That is really powerful. We truly respect how the #Netherlands comes together on #rememberance Day (Netherlands) to honor those lives.

Taking time to pause and reflect like that really matters, especially today. It’s a strong reminder of the #value of #peace.

  6. Advice of the day: if you are going to wear an admiral navy uniform for Remembrance Day and go around telling people about your military service, it's generally frowned upon if people find out that you bought all those medals online.

  8. The UK had a furore over a fake Admiral at #RemembranceDay in #Llandudno, while #KingCharlie was an authorised fake #FieldMarshal in Whitehall.

But inbreeding is not the UK's approved only path to fake military rank.

#GilbertAndSullivan's "Sir Joseph Porter" was a parody of W.H. Smith, the eponymous bookseller whose political career led him to be #FirstSeaLord.

"He thought so little, they rewarded he
By making him the Ruler of the Queen's Navy!"

  10. Second fake officer spotted at British #RemembranceDay.

Photos have been circulated of a fake navel officer with a chest full of medals, at Remembrance Day in #Llandudno. uk.news.yahoo.com/fake-admiral

It follows the appearance at the #Cenotaph in Whitehall of a fake Field Marshal, a man who never served a day in the army.

Biut the fake naval dude is in trouble, because his cosplaying was unauthorised. The #British want only royal fakes.

  12. I'm #Canadian, we call it #RemembranceDay because we HONOR the fallen. We're not racist, childish, morons, who feel the need to rebrand everything in some vain attempt to change history like #Trump. And we don't elect convicted criminals linked to child rapists to the highest seat in the land.

  13. you are innocent of calling for a coup then why did those convicted all said it was your words that they were following?

The #DUP - not sending anyone to Catherine Connolly's inauguration was petty and pathetic. They aren't governing for everyone, they are running towards the right to see off Jim Allister, is clear as day! It was a snub and they used Remembrance Day as a cover.

Also #RemembranceDay has become an exercise in one up manship - who can look sadder, who can wear the biggest

  14. Some Canadiana from my life:

My first voiceover / voice actor gig was narrating Colonel John McRae's poem In Flanders Fields for the local TV station Remembrance Day broadcast.

    I was nine.

(How I got the gig is a different and long story not for Fedi.)

I read the poem over and over, like a pro: can you go a little faster, slower, etc.

I got it it to the needed time to a fraction of a second.

I still know all the words to this day. It has never left me.

  18. As long as we have a military, we are grateful to those individuals of good character who choose to serve. Each United States service member has sworn an oath of allegiance to the U.S. Constitution.

Especially considering the current Commander in Chief and Secretary of Defense, we are grateful that all our immediate family members’ commitments of service have been completed.

The final military assignment of our most beloved living veteran—our son, who served in the U.S. Navy—was as part of the NATO Coalition providing the first Ukrainian defense. He followed a line of family members who also served honorably, including our beloved dad, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the Pacific during World War II.

A bugler played Retreat in the distance as we cut this eve’s salad. And we were reminded again that the freedoms we enjoy are not a given everywhere.

  20. The Chinese Men volunteered for a top secret, extremely dangerous mission, for Canada during WWII and Canada still had not recognized them as equals or allowed them citizenship or rights. Those who love the country they fight for, are often not recognized by that same country. We need to change that. We are stronger when we see EVERYONE who is on our side. #Canada #RemembranceDay

  22. Canadian-born, 21-year-old Bill Millin, the Mad Piper of the D-Day landing.

Played his bagpipes for his comrades in the HLI Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders No. 4 Commandos at Pegasus Bridge at the command of his superior officer, Commander Lord Lovat.

‘Millin played "Highland Laddie", "The Road to the Isles", and "All The Blue Bonnets Are Over the Border" as his comrades fell around him on Sword Beach. Millin stated that he later talked to captured German snipers who claimed they did not shoot at him because they thought he had gone mad.’

  23. “McCrae was a McGill professor and physician. He and his colleagues from Montreal's No. 3 Canadian General Hospital, organized by the university, cared for thousands of soldiers during the First World War.

“In Flanders Fields is still recited each year at Remembrance Day ceremonies across Canada — more than a century after it was written.

“McCrae, serving as a medical officer in the Canadian Expeditionary Force as a lieutenant-colonel, wrote the poem in the spring of 1915 as the war entered its 11th month. Born in Guelph, Ont., he crafted the piece in Belgium following the death of a friend and fellow soldier during the Second Battle of Ypres.”
