I don’t have much faith in the results. Between the vague questions, the confusing directions on the ballots, the poor logistics and the stories I’ve heard of mail-in ballots not received or rejected without notice, the results are close to meaningless. I hope Danielle Smith loses her job over this, preferably by a revolt within her party. Because it’s a circus and it makes a mockery of government. #abpoli

Coworker in St. Albert said his advance poll had an hour and half wait to even get inside today.
Advance #abpoli voting didn't take *too* long. About 20 minutes?
Curiosity: unlike the federal paper ballots these ones did not include duplicate audit numbers on the actual ballots. Thus you cannot answer the question, "did this polling place issue this ballot to a voter?" at all (unlike federal elections).

It's worth noting the impatient, childish response of Dawn Farrell (CEO of Carney's Major Projects Office) here, complaining that they've already given First Nations enough consultation on this tarsands pipeline in just two months - with no impact assessments, no data on potential risks. She complains that the government's constitutional duty to consult makes her feel like Canada is "never going to work":
"Oh my God, we can never get this country to work. Like it’s never going to work. We’ll never make it".
The classic Conservative "Canada is broken" BS, this time from the Carney camp, rather than Poilievre's. 🙄

According to Section 35 of the Constitution Act, if any changes are to be made to First Nations rights or freedoms, the government must consult with leadership, as well as invite them to be part of the discussion overall.
But NAN Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler said that First Nations are no longer at the table.
“That is not reconciliation – it is a continuation of the same pattern our people have fought against for generations. Our Chiefs have rejected Bill C-39, and we stand with our partners. We will not stand by while our rights are trampled on”.

Listened to a bit The Current on CBC this morning as they interviewed rural people in Alberta on separation. Realized I wasn’t going to hear anything new and that Matt Galloway wasn’t going to challenge any of the inaccuracies in the separatist mantras.
I’m also disappointed the story going across Canada is going to focus on the petty grievances of a small minority while giving far less attention to the vast majority of the people here who aren’t separatists.
Our oldest voter, to my knowledge, is 94. I’m so glad he wanted to vote! Our youngest was 18, of course. Turnout has been good, high engagement, although many voters have voiced that the referendum is a waste of time and money. #abpoli
I was surprised to learn that the government won’t print people’s full names on the drivers license if it’s “too long.” That makes it difficult you use as ID. It also calls into question the motivation for including citizenship and health number when they don’t make room for the legal name. And the printing is so small, it’s often hard to read the address. #abpoli
I was sad to hear that BIPOC people are bringing all the ID they can including passports, like they are expecting racism. That’s not the way I want anyone to experience Alberta. #abpoli
At the advance voting station today, it was quieter during midday and busier in the evening compared to yesterday. It flowed smoothly, and our lineups were rarely longer than 20 minutes. A number of people tried to vote even though they live in other ridings; we couldn’t serve then, but they said line ups elsewhere were over two hours even at midday. #abpoli
