Speaking as a Canadian, it sure would be great if Americans would do this.

A call has been launched to participate in large scale strikes at the beginning of september to fight against the further destruction of social security by the current government. On September 4th dock workers in #Rotterdam, #Amsterdam and #Zeeland will lay down the work throughout the day. The following Wednesday, September 9th, the whole country will be shut down by a public transport and railway strike. The strikes are a response to the government plans to impose cuts on unemployment benefits (WW), disability benefits (WIA) and to raise the retirement age.
Strikes going on the offensive
These #strike actions are more conflictive than before in a number of ways. Previously actions only took place in a part of the day: public transport stopped only in the morning rush hours and the ports only during the night shift. Now the dock #workers won’t work all day and the public transport and rail strike lasts a full 24 hours. The entire rail sector and transportation services will stop at the same time. Buses in both cities and country side will not run, trams and subways will stop and all trains will be stationary. But also technicians and other logistical and infrastructural support staff from ProRail and DB-cargo will lay down their work. The entire rail service and infrastructure will be shut down.
Such a coordinated action has not occurred in the #Netherlands in a long time. What has not happened in the past decade is that the trade unions are calling for strike as a form of protest against government policy. Strikes are usually mainly about sector Collective Labour Agreements and not about political decisions. A choice has now been made to intervene in political decisions, something that has been put forward above all by the members of the unions themselves. It shows that people start to realise their class position and power and use it as a form of in it as counter-power.
Austerity politics is war
The austerity politics of the Jetten government is directly linked to the rising #military expenditures. Former Prime Minister Rutte, now #NATO Chief, announced without shame that #Europe should #finance the increased military budgets with money from people's pensions and by cutting into social security. The Netherlands obliged immediately. These cuts are a further attack on the working class and an offensive in a war waged against us from above.
The strikes on September 4th and 9th are a first active move to fight back. Not only are workers in ports and railways indirectly protesting the increase in military expenditures, they also directly – be it or not knowingly, wanting or explicitly - shut down the weakest link in the military logistics of the war machine in the Netherlands. What activist groups have been trying for years to achieve the workers can do in less than 36 hours. The quality of the actions themselves demonstrates the importance of mobilised workers and the ability of workers' organisation to counter-power and subversion.
Spread, support, agitate!
Let’s actively support the strikes of September 4th and 9th! By joining and spreading the strike itself to other sectors and services. By organising agitation and disturbances in the daily life that will do its best to keep going out like nothing's wrong. By actively supporting the strikers politically and morally. By attacking the institutions of the war machine and capital. By organising ourselves not only to defend our WW, WIA and AOW, but above all to reverse the war waged from above. Let us transform the #war of the bosses and politicians into war against bosses and politicians!
Against (austerity)politics – against the war machine!

They leave us desperate and scrambling for stability as they put every basic human necessity behind paywalls.
We grow the food, sew the clothing, build the houses, care for one another, and connect with each other.
We build the tech that makes them rich.
They put a price tag on all of that and force us to sell our lives to them so they can control everything.
We can say no.
We need to start saying no.

4 & 9 September: Steun De Staking! / Dołącz do strajku! / Grevi destekle! / Support The Strike!
Landelijk (nl), vrijdag 4 september om 00:00 CEST
[Polski, Türkçe and English below]
Afbraakpolitiek is oorlog

Dołącz do strajku!
W najbliższą środę, 9 września, cały kraj zostanie sparaliżowany strajkiem transportu publicznego i kolei.
Jednocześnie zatrzymany zostanie cały sektor kolejowy i transport. Cała sieć kolejowa i infrastruktura zostaną zamknięte.
Polityka oszczędności to wojna
Strajki 4 i 9 września to pierwszy aktywny krok w obronie.
Rozpowszechniaj, wspieraj, agituj!
Aktywnie wspierajmy strajki 4 i 9 września! Aktywnie wspierajmy strajkujących politycznie i moralnie. Atakujmy instytucje machiny wojennej i kapitału.

In memory of Howard Sperry and Nick Bordoise,
who gave their lives on Bloody Thursday, July 5, 1934,
so that all working people
might enjoy a greater measure of dignity and security.Sperry and Bordoise were fatally shot by San Francisco police
at the intersection of Mission and Steuart Streets,
when longshore-men and seamen attempted to stop maritime employers from breaking their joint strike.Community outrage at these killings
sparked a general strike by all San Francisco unions. The maritime strike continued through the middle of summer,
concluding with a union victory which brought decent conditions to the shipping industry
and set the stage for the rebirth of a strong and democratic labor movement on the west coast."An Injury To One Is An Injury To All"

Over the past few years the labor movement has taken a series of body blows which have sapped its strength and have put it on the defensive.
These attacks originate in the White House and trickle down to the lowest regional office of the National Labor Relations Board. They begin in corporate offices of companies like Louisiana-Pacific and Phelps Dodge [that was the enemy that month] and work their way down to even the smallest employers.
We are concerned about the future of our jobs, the industries in which we work, the world that our children will inherit.
We are therefore inclined more and more to look in the past for some sort of anchor to discover our roots.
We don't want just a few names and dates, but a living, ongoing story in which we can see ourselves as actors as well as spectators.
So as we celebrate the General Strike of 1934, it's time for a fresh look.Young workers in particular must look at 1934, and ask what relevance it has for them.
For the generation of west coast workers who went through the Depression the answers are self-evident.
The '34 Strike was the main event, their passage into first-class citizenship,
by establishing a solid union presence on the west coast waterfronts.
By doing away with the humiliation of the shape-up, the fink hall and the company union, the '34 Strike changed the face of the waterfront forever. The same might be said for the generation which came on during and after WWII.
They may not have participated in the actual events of the strike, but their fathers and uncles did.
As kids growing up in the 1930s they had seen the changes, whether it was the growing stability of their family life, the increased self-respect of the adults around them or a little more meat on the table. The generation of the '50s and '60s, the generation who put together the first pension and health and welfare programs, also understood that they were enjoying the payoff of the sacrifice of 1934.
The Big Strike remained a vivid memory and was clearly responsible for their being able to enjoy a degree of comfort and security undreamed of by their parents. But what are we to say to the young people of today,
people who are separated from the '30s by the tremendous changes which have taken place in those years?
For them, 1934 is a heroic dream, a golden age, when the labor movement was fresh and young,
when things were simpler, a matter of right and wrong.
What was so unique and so instructive about 1934 and in fact about the whole CIO experience, was that it was a creative response to change in society.Over the 50 years preceding the '34 strike, American industrial life had changed dramatically.
The village blacksmith became a steelworker in a huge plant, the assembly line diluted craft skills.
But we in the labor movement were still acting as if it were 1870 or thereabouts.
Our little craft unions, jealous about our own spheres of control, only about maintaining our jurisdiction, our burial societies, the world was passing us by.
So here we are again. The creative part of the CIO ideas expressed on the waterfront was the unity of all workers.
That meant the end of the competition between the skilled man and the casual.
It meant the hiring hall and equal work opportunity.
It meant a coast-wide contract so that ports couldn't be played off one against the other.
It meant unity with the sailors.
Industrial unionism on the west coast succeeded so well because it fitted the circumstances of corporate development so well."
-- Jim Herman, ILWU president in 1984

The billionaire oligarchs aren't the problem.
The bootlickers who serve them in the hope of becoming them are.
The oligarchs are nothing without the people who do the work for them.
We need to continue pushing for a culture that villainizes oligarchical perverts.
We do that first by killing the bootlicker in our own minds, then shunning anyone else with bootlicker tendencies.
To get rid of the oligarchs, you need to rot out the foundations they're built on.
-
But we are fed horrific images of terrible, terrible things happening in places few of us have any experience with, actions caused by people claiming to be doing it in our name.
We support them with our taxes, with our attention, with our commerce, and with our very lives.
And all we get in return is more pain, more oppression, more fear.
Haven't you had enough?

And I can not stress this enough: Senators from Ohio, Nebraska, Wyoming and Missouri need to shut the fuck up about California and focus on their own shit hole states.
Similarly... Senators from California need to shut the fuck up about other states on focus on their own shit hole.
Or - and this would be my preference - the entire lot of them can fuck right off into the ocean and let us have control of our lives back.
