Developing at larger sizes also means 2-3x more volume of liquids required to fill the processing trays. That means warming up the developer is quite a bit more time consuming and requires a larger beaker, larger bottles for storing other liquids etc. I think the result is all worth it though! 🤩

Exhausting day trying to get a decent print from this large plate (A2), aiming for a nice consistent ink tone over the aquatint. Changed paper and moved onto this enormous press which I haven't used before, and it worked perfectly! As the technician said, a rare case of actually being able to totally blame the tools. This press takes about 100 turns per print and I am so very tired. Big etchings are an entirely different beast to 'normal' sized ones, at every step of the process.

For International Tea Day, my Green Tea Chemistry print. This linocut illustrates green tea and its chemistry. There’s a tea pot, two cups of tea and a tea plant (Camellia sinensis) on a tray, and in the steam, you can see some of the organic chemicals found in green tea. Up to 27% of the composition of green tea can be a member of the flavonoids called catechins like the molecule illustrated on the right. 🧵
