I wanted my old photos from Instagram being set free and not gathering dust on my hard drive. So I built a script to convert and upload those posts to my GoToSocial host. It uses "backdating", a way to submit old posts with their original posting date included. Replies to other accounts, mentions, and polls aren't part of the backdating feature and aren't handled here. This gives some kind of archive as part of my Fediverse history, looking like this.

As the script worked out surprisingly well, here it is:

Hopefully it's useful to others! Hence, I did not test this with any other Fediverse server. So please be careful when shooting at Mastodon or whatever with it!

I would add that internet #APS (#Anonymity, #Privacy and #Security) constitutes #Power! This is because it empowers people throughout the world to fight back against abuses of power by the most powerful entities, e.g. Governments, Corporations, billionaires/millionaires, intelligence agencies, spies, etc. Therefore, more APS contributes to higher levels of #Freedom, #Truth and #Justice across the world.

#Technology is Power, and therefore, it is #Politics. Whatever happens today in Technology, it will happen tomorrow in Politics/Surveillance/War/etc.

By shaping (or influencing) Technology today, we shape Politics tomorrow.

This is why I care so much about APS.

They want us to believe this is #freedom ,

They will pay a million officers to 🔫 down kids instead of replacing their precious concrete and grass with fruit trees and playgrounds, commons for community projects

quite some other projects try to solve "offline communications" by using Bluetooth but I think this is very unpractical for anything that is not looking like an IRC or SMS app

but if people setup local interconnected wifi hotspots and build a mesh network in the cities/towns then you can have a something much more interesting while not draining everyone's battery

enabling people to do things like this and becoming truly resilient and autonomous

things like this you can never do with centralized messengers like #WhatsApp, #Telegram, #Signal, etc. if you really care about digital independence, centralized alternatives are just NOT an option at all

The United States Department of Justice has released a formal Office of Legal Counsel memorandum opinion clarifying that law-abiding Americans may carry constitutionally protected firearms into publicly accessible post offices for self-defense without violating federal criminal law. The opinion, dated August 12, 2026, and authored by Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Lanora C. Pettit, interprets 18 U.S.C. § 930(a), the longstanding prohibition on possessing firearms or other dangerous weapons in federal facilities, as not reaching ordinary self-defense carry in post offices open to the public.

Section 930(a) makes it a federal crime to knowingly possess a firearm in a federal facility, defined as a building or portion thereof owned or leased by the federal government where federal employees regularly perform official duties. Post offices clearly qualify under this definition. However, subsection (d)(3) creates an explicit exception for the “lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.”

The OLC concludes that self-defense constitutes a paradigmatic “lawful purpose.” Critically, the opinion holds that no special nexus is required between the reason a person enters the post office and the reason for carrying the firearm. Simply entering a public post office while lawfully armed for self-defense falls within the statutory exception.
