  1. “The presence of a single bird can change everything for one who appreciates them” - Julie Zickefoose

This striking Scarlet Tanager surprised us by perching at eye level vs. its usual neck-ache-inducing upper tree canopy area.

  2. Mother’s Day #lifer delight! Spring migration hopes exceeded on a sunny and birdsong-enveloped morning when this Wilson’s Warbler male literally crossed back and forth over our path for a few shaded minutes.

  7. Happy #MothersDay Eve.

About a month ago, we had the thrill of our first ever Red Fox kit sighting. We saw the vixen run across our path, then moments later saw this little one emerge from a crevice along the edge of the path. We kept our distance but @CTGT was able to get a couple photos.

  8. They freeze. We freeze, then walk very slowly along the grassy path trying - in vain - not to scare off an Eastern Cottontail.

  9. Spied our first of the season Indigo Bunting perched high and singing in a budding tree. Love those sweet trills.

  10. The Savannah Sparrows have returned bringing the promise of summer days with them. (Yes, I’m weary of cooler than normal weather.)

  11. Nests and crests. @CTGT and I watched this pair of Pileated Woodpeckers work on their nest cavity. The flame effect when the sun hit their crests was awesome.

  12. Showing off its glossy black plumage, this Fish Crow landed next to my husband and I on a viewing deck rail as we were taking pictures of other birds in a beach marsh area. Apparently, it did not wish to be ignored.

  14. Eye level foraging, instead of in its usual neck-ache-inducing leafy realm, gave us some nice views of this Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher.

  19. Gorgeously graphic and vividly pink-legged, Black-necked Stilts are one of my favorite bird species. This female was foraging in a shallow marsh while her mate took his turn sitting on the nest.

  20. Enveloped by the sound of rustling wings, shrill cries, and hoarse honks, we were awestruck by hundreds of Snow Geese taking flight and soaring over us.
