Schools are prisons designed to instill unquestioning obedience to arbitrary authority more than anything else. These people would privatize both roads and sidewalks, so that every time you take a step out your front door you'd be paying a toll. They're so pro-corporate that I once heard a debate where they were arguing the merits of charging people to breathe fresh air and drink water too.
Do you want to have no consent laws? These people are pro-rape, pro-incest, pro-child bride, and believe women are property. In fact, some of them believe you should have the right to "claim" a wife as you see fit. Can you imagine walking, minding your own business, and some random dude pronouncing he's claimed you, and now you're his? They're also very big on multiple wives and large families too.
Ethnic cleansing? Listen to a Libertarian telling you how we should have selective breeding programs and selective sterilization too. These people watched the movie "The Purge" and thought that was a good idea.
Their only debate regarding the LGBTQ+ community is whether there is more value in "reeducation" or putting them in gas chambers, which they argue would be the humane method.
Honestly, Libertarians make MAGA look like a kid-friendly version of Mickey Mouse on a Saturday-morning cartoon show by comparison.
Like MAGA, they all start out talking about less government and more freedoms, but it does not end there.
The last thing you want is those people gaining a foothold anywhere -- ever.

The so-called "libertarians" around here are more conservative than the current MAGA Republicans. In fact, they're so extreme and scary, they almost make MAGA look like a kid-friendly version of Mickey Mouse on a Saturday-morning cartoon show by comparison. I think some of these people would even give Adolf Hitler a run for his money — they're that extreme.
My fear was that their little independent party would gain even more momentum. At that point, it truly will be every man, woman, and child for themselves. And god save us, because no one else will.

History teaches that the first self-described libertarians were ardent socialists. It is true #libertarianism has diversified to include traditional liberals such as Nozick and capitalists such as Rothbard, but what is striking is that (at least in the US) "libertarianism" is a term almost exclusively associated with the right—Bookchin notwithstanding. That adds to the confusion surrounding anti-authoritarianism and, I believe, is ultimately bad for a movement that opposes tyrannies.

Growing up, I was always told to mock #socialism as a form of utopianism, as if that was a bad thing. #Utopianism was never a belief that something would happen, or that anything would be perfect. It was a thought experiment to consider what a perfect outcome would look like, so we could implement the ideas and get as close as possible. Meanwhile, #capitalism , #conservatism , #liberalism , and #libertarianism are just as #utopian in their dreams. Capitalism and libertarianism believe that if we JUST get government out of the way, we could have the #freemarkets work the way they are supposed to and lead to prosperity for all, never mind that corporations only exist because of #bankruptcy laws and standards created by Congress. Modern conservatism believes that if we just went back to a specific, unspecified time point when religion ruled, we would have prosperity again, never mind that America was never like that, even when we were at our most religious. #Liberals believe that if freedom, equality, and equity are guaranteed, but with a true free market that does require governments to regulate it, we would have true prosperity. The only difference is that #Marx , using arguments by #AdamSmith himself, poked holes in all of these ideas at their core. That the structure itself needed an overhaul of who holds power, or at least patched with a strong welfare state, and to work toward that utopian dream where the people held the power instead of the lords or #oligarchs and everyone was a lawmaker with direct democracy, there was a return of #thecommons that was just the norm for most of human history, and #personalproperty was something you physically used, erned and worked instead of from trading, hoarding and wasting while people starved aka #privateproperty . The day the lords stole the commons from the people was the day that socialism started to exist, with the Diggers and the Levelers attempting to take on the power of the lords and realizing they already ran their own villages, or communes and affairs in their areas, and the lords were just a middleman that contributed little to nothing. Hence the term #communism , which is a return to the natural commons people like #John Locke and #Voltaire and other #Enlightenment thinkers idealized, but capitalism has brainwashed people to ignore, forget, or never know in the first place they believed this while we were told to look up to them. Utopianism gives us the power to dream, to coalesce our ideas and our ideals. When we were told not to dream of our ideal world but were told to dream of their ideal, that's when the dream died and we just all became doomers. -

Okay, I am going to say it: I trust neither #Anarchism nor #Libertarianism as an organizational principle for maintaining a society, and for much the same reason.
Don't get me wrong: It is certainly always appropriate to keep an eye out for government abuse and overreach. But any society needs to keep some sort of institutional memory to avoid the mistakes of the past, and modern civilization is a _massive_ beast with equally massive requirement for that institutional memory.
While some might argue that there will always be enough people who are willing to help out with things that have than obvious benefit for them and their community, I am skeptical. People will demonstrably vote against adequately funding a fire department if this means they would have to pay for it, even though a lack of a fire department will end up far more expensive for the community. And fire departments are a comparably _simple_ matter. Then there is trash disposal, sewage management, and ensuring that the power grid remains stable and doesn't suffer from rolling blackouts (this is the field I currently work in).
And frankly, modern civilization is so massively complex that any single person cannot understand more than a fraction of what is required to keep it running. The wise and humble thing is to acknowledge this, rather than demanding to have a say in each and every line item.
So how do we meet that requirement for institutional memory? Outsource it to the private sector? They will squeeze their customers dry, and then run away once there is a serious problem.
A non-profit? They will focus on the sexiest parts, ignore the rest, and spend most of their resources on fundraising.
A volunteer association? That might work in _some_ cases, in small communities, and for well-respected tasks, but it would be hard to keep the commitment going over the decades. People will always drift away, taking their precious knowledge with them.
No, for all their flaws, I still think government agencies remain the best maintainers of institutional memory we have. Give some experts stable, long-term jobs and allow them to deepen both their expertise and that of their institution as a whole.
Of course, there are _plenty_ of situations where government agencies have gone bad. But to me, the conclusion from that is not:
"Government itself is bad!"
but
"Don't allow governments be captured by bad actors!"
And speaking of which, have you ever wondered why the #Trump administration is so hell-bent on destroying all the institutional knowledge of US government agencies? You should.
