My Biggest Dream Was Never a Place

I thought my biggest dream was to see the world. It took years of traveling to realize I was really searching for a life that felt like home.

There was a time when I believed my biggest dream was to travel the world.

Every destination I crossed off my list felt like another dream fulfilled. I stood by oceans, walked unfamiliar streets, watched sunsets from different corners of the world, and filled my camera with moments I never wanted to forget.

People often ask me where my favorite place is.

The truth is, it has never been about the place.

Travel taught me something I never expected. Every journey became a mirror, reflecting not just the beauty of the world but the person I was slowly becoming.

I learned courage by traveling alone. I learned patience when plans changed. I learned gratitude from strangers who became friends, and I learned that happiness doesn’t always arrive with perfect circumstances.

For many years, life was about surviving. I worked hard, raised my children, faced disappointments, experienced loss, and carried responsibilities that often left little room for myself. Like many overseas workers, I kept moving because standing still wasn’t an option.

But somewhere along the way, something changed.

I made a promise to myself.

I would stop rushing.

I would love myself more.

I would choose peace over pressure.

That promise has become my greatest achievement.

Today, when I think about my biggest dream, I no longer imagine a long list of countries to visit. I imagine waking up in a quiet home surrounded by nature. I imagine tending a small garden, creating handmade skincare products, writing stories from my travels, reading books with a cup of coffee in hand, and welcoming my children and grandchildren into a home filled with laughter.

It is a simple dream.

Yet it feels richer than anything I have ever wished for.

Travel will always be part of who I am. There are still places I hope to see and stories waiting to be written. But now I know those journeys are not the destination. They are simply stepping stones leading me toward the life I truly want.

My biggest dream isn’t measured by passport stamps, promotions, or possessions.

It is measured by peace.

A life where I no longer have to prove anything.

A life where I can simply wake up, breathe deeply, and whisper to myself, “This is enough.”

Perhaps that is what home has always meant.

Not a country.

Not a house.

But a feeling.

And after all these years of searching beyond borders, I think I’m finally finding it within myself.

Extreme Heat Day 3

We hit 117 degrees yesterday and it was hot and muggy out there! It broke a record for this date. We also had the warmest morning low yesterday that broke a record of 97 degrees. You could feel the moisture in the air. Once my husband got home from work he decided he was home early enough to go over to my niece’s house to do some work. I took both of my grandsons swimming and I was in the pool several times to cool off. After school, my daughter, son-in-law and two more of my grandsons got there to swim for a short time. We didn’t stay over there too long as my husband was tired. On the way home we stopped and picked up a couple of pizza’s for dinner so I could feed both my grandsons before my son got off of work to pick them up. I baked brownies first thing in the morning and they had those for dessert. If anything I kept them both full all day. It is that time of year when you walk outside in the afternoon it is like walking into an oven, a very hot oven. The heat surrounds you and you can feel the humidity. I lasted probably 15 minutes before I had to get in the pool. Normally I can sit outside in the shade all afternoon. Not when it is this muggy out, it is near impossible. I don’t know how people work out in this type of weather but they do. They were here to trim my palm trees at 2:15 in the afternoon yesterday and were done in about a half hour and moved on to the next job. In Phoenix, when it is this hot, construction and road work starts super early in the morning.  The valley is under an extreme heat warning from this past Wednesday through Monday. Between the high temperatures,  higher humidity and dew points it feels much hotter out than it really is. All the hiking trails are closed from 8 am-5 pm until the heat warning expires. The cooling centers that are located all over the valley have been busy and full with people needing to get out of this heat and get hydrated. In the past, we’ve had so many heat related deaths here in the valley that the electric company cannot shut off your power until it goes below 80 degrees. You still have to pay your total bill, they just can’t shut you off for non payment during our hot summers. Last night I ended up not taking my Rick Simpson Oil until almost 5:30 pm. It was no biggie, I wasn’t experiencing any aches at all. The tendonitis in my ankle stopped and my sciatic has taken a break. You’ll get no complaints from me about that! This morning we are getting ready to head over to my niece’s house. My husband and daughter are trying to install all the new kitchen cupboards this weekend. I’ll be dividing my time between sitting outside, going in the pool and sitting in the house if it gets to be too much. It is supposed to be even hotter today than it was yesterday. So far I’m not doing too darn bad today. Considering we are expecting a chance for more monsoon storms by tonight or tomorrow, my arthritis and sciatic are giving me a break so far. We’ll see how the day progresses. I’m not worried, I have Rick Simpson Oil to take at 4 pm each day. Or I switch between the RSO and the Brix THC gummies. Taking it once a day, twice in an evening if it is the THC gummies is all I require to manage my chronic pain. That’s it, I go all day with minimal aches that I would expect for someone my age. That is what I consider a normal part of life. What I’m talking about is the pain in my neck and shoulders that would radiate throughout my body that I don’t miss. That is what I’m referring to when I say I’m managing my chronic pain with marijuana. I’ve got a neck made of titanium (S2-S7), two metal rods from my head into my shoulders and a body full of arthritis that no longer causes me constant horrible pain. I have the many healing qualities of marijuana to thank for the fact I’m not living with that constant bone deep pain day in and day out any longer. I’m back to living life again. All because I chose a plant over a pill. Thank you marijuana!

Extreme Heat Day 2

We hit 114 degrees yesterday but with the added humidity and high dew points it felt more like 117. I didn’t bother to go outside all day. We had bad air quality alerts for unhealthy ozone levels so as a former smoker I hate bad ozone days. It makes it harder for me to breathe. Wait, I had to go outside once, to move my truck back in the driveway when they were done trimming my palm trees, but that was it. These temperatures are going to be some of the hottest we’ve had so far this summer. Our morning lows aren’t going below the 90’s so nothing has a chance to cool off overnight. We’ll deal with these types of temperatures until Monday when we’ll drop down below 110 degrees to 107. There is also a chance for more monsoon storms by Sunday or Monday. That means the humidity is going to be awful with these high temps. Today we are expecting a high of 115 so it will be even hotter out there with the added mugginess. Yuck! It looks like my husband is going to have a longer day than usual for a Friday. He’s going to be too tired to go over and work on the remodel until tomorrow. Looks like I’ll have to find other ways to keep my two grandsons busy today. I had planned on going swimming with them over at my niece’s. It is going to be too damn hot and muggy to sit outside in the shade without being in the pool first. I know I’ll be in the pool tomorrow when we are looking for a high of 116 degrees. Yesterday I managed to get the house cleaned and made BLT’s for dinner using our home grown lettuce leaves. I spent the day busy and was never once slowed down by a single ache. Even my ankle stopped aching after I started moving around and vacuuming. At 4 pm I went to the freezer and took a ½ gram of Rick Simpson Oil with water. By 6 pm I was high, relaxed and still ache free for the evening. I watched a few shows from a series I’m following, stretched and went to bed. This morning I’m up and ready to spend the day with two of my grandsons. The only ache I’ve got is the slight ache I’ve got in my ankle from tendonitis and that ache is so minor I probably shouldn’t even bother mentioning it. That’s it! Even with all the humidity in the air I’m not all stiff and moving slowly. I’ve got the heating pad on my lower back just like I do each morning to help loosen it up for the day so I’m fine there. That tells me the CBD and THC in the RSO is doing its job of taking care of my chronic pain. I’m not ready to admit defeat when it comes to my elbow. Years ago I had cortisone injections for the tendonitis in it. Ever since I dropped from three down to two gabapentin a day, my elbow has started bothering me. So far by the time it starts to bother me in the day I’m within a couple of hours of taking my Rick Simpson Oil for the day and feels better once the RSO kicks in. It might be time to invest in some THC/CBD ointment. I’ll start looking for it to be on sale at the local dispensaries. I’ve used it in the past for my ankle and sciatic with good results. So I know it works. There really hasn’t been a marijuana product I’ve tried that hasn’t worked. Some might not be strong enough and I need more, but I’ve learned what products work best with new brands coming out all the time. I stick with the section at the dispensary that is for medical card holders only. The products are stronger and can only be purchased with a medical marijuana card. Plus with a medical card I don’t have to pay the high taxes you pay with recreational. I treat marijuana as medication. That is why I take it once a day. That is all I require to keep all of my horrible pain away. On the off days I’m aching and it becomes bothersome. I have the Brix THC gummies to take a 50 mg cube to help take away the aches if necessary. That happens on days I’m on my feet for an extended period of time or we are having a change in weather. Time to get ready, my grandsons will be here shortly. I’m looking forward to spending the day with them while I’m pain free. All because I chose a plant over a pill. Thank you marijuana!
