If I Could Rewrite One Book Ending

Sometimes the ending doesn’t need a different person. It needs a different version of ourselves.

There was a time when I believed that every story had one perfect ending.

The lovers would find each other. The lonely heart would finally be chosen. The person who waited patiently would eventually be rewarded.

Maybe that’s why stories comfort us. They give us the endings we secretly hope life will someday write for us.

But life has a habit of editing our expectations.

If I could rewrite one book ending, without hesitation, I thought of The Great Gatsby.

Not because Gatsby died.

But because he spent his life chasing a dream that had already slipped into the past.

He believed that if he became successful enough, rich enough, impressive enough, the person he loved would finally choose him. Every decision, every sacrifice, every extravagant party was built around one hope.

The green light across the water became more than a light.

It became a promise.

And sometimes, don’t we all have our own green lights?

A relationship we can’t let go of.

A dream we’ve convinced ourselves will finally make us whole.

A future we keep postponing our happiness for.

If I could rewrite Gatsby’s ending, I wouldn’t change the fact that he loved deeply.

I would change what happened after he realized the dream no longer belonged to him.

Instead of waiting, I would have him leave.

Sell the mansion.

Close the gates.

Travel somewhere no one knew his name.

Watch sunrises instead of watching a single green light.

Meet people who valued him for who he was, not for the story he had built around himself.

Most importantly, I would let him discover that peace is sometimes found not in holding on, but in gently letting go.

As I write this, I realize maybe I’m not rewriting Gatsby’s ending at all.

Maybe I’m quietly rewriting parts of my own.

For years, I believed life was about reaching certain destinations.

Finding the right person.

Proving my worth.

Waiting for the chapter where everything would finally make sense.

But somewhere along the journey, while traveling alone, sitting by the sea, walking unfamiliar streets in my favorite yellow shoes, I discovered something unexpected.

Life wasn’t waiting for me to arrive.

It was already happening.

The quiet mornings.

The spontaneous trips.

The conversations with strangers.

The coffee that tasted better because I wasn’t rushing.

The sunsets that asked for nothing except my presence.

Those moments were never the chapters in between.

They were the story.

Perhaps growing older isn’t about giving up on love.

It’s about refusing to put your life on hold while waiting for it.

If love finds me someday, I hope it walks beside the life I’ve already built.

Not one I’ve been postponing.

And if it doesn’t?

I’ll still have oceans to visit.

Books to read.

Cities to wander.

Dreams to chase.

People to meet.

Stories to write.

Maybe the best ending isn’t where someone finally chooses us.

Maybe it’s where we finally choose ourselves, and discover that life had been quietly opening new chapters all along.

My Biggest Dream Was Never a Place

I thought my biggest dream was to see the world. It took years of traveling to realize I was really searching for a life that felt like home.

There was a time when I believed my biggest dream was to travel the world.

Every destination I crossed off my list felt like another dream fulfilled. I stood by oceans, walked unfamiliar streets, watched sunsets from different corners of the world, and filled my camera with moments I never wanted to forget.

People often ask me where my favorite place is.

The truth is, it has never been about the place.

Travel taught me something I never expected. Every journey became a mirror, reflecting not just the beauty of the world but the person I was slowly becoming.

I learned courage by traveling alone. I learned patience when plans changed. I learned gratitude from strangers who became friends, and I learned that happiness doesn’t always arrive with perfect circumstances.

For many years, life was about surviving. I worked hard, raised my children, faced disappointments, experienced loss, and carried responsibilities that often left little room for myself. Like many overseas workers, I kept moving because standing still wasn’t an option.

But somewhere along the way, something changed.

I made a promise to myself.

I would stop rushing.

I would love myself more.

I would choose peace over pressure.

That promise has become my greatest achievement.

Today, when I think about my biggest dream, I no longer imagine a long list of countries to visit. I imagine waking up in a quiet home surrounded by nature. I imagine tending a small garden, creating handmade skincare products, writing stories from my travels, reading books with a cup of coffee in hand, and welcoming my children and grandchildren into a home filled with laughter.

It is a simple dream.

Yet it feels richer than anything I have ever wished for.

Travel will always be part of who I am. There are still places I hope to see and stories waiting to be written. But now I know those journeys are not the destination. They are simply stepping stones leading me toward the life I truly want.

My biggest dream isn’t measured by passport stamps, promotions, or possessions.

It is measured by peace.

A life where I no longer have to prove anything.

A life where I can simply wake up, breathe deeply, and whisper to myself, “This is enough.”

Perhaps that is what home has always meant.

Not a country.

Not a house.

But a feeling.

And after all these years of searching beyond borders, I think I’m finally finding it within myself.

If I Could Have Dinner with Any Fictional Character

The one who travelled the world in 80 days…

Some people would choose a superhero. Others would choose a wizard, a princess, or perhaps a detective who could solve every mystery before dessert arrived.

As for me, I’d choose Phileas Fogg.

Not because he traveled around the world in eighty days, but because he understood something that many travelers eventually discover: a journey is never just about the places you visit. It’s about the person you become along the way.

If we ever shared a dinner table, I don’t think we’d spend much time talking about famous landmarks. Instead, I’d ask him about the moments between destinations.

I’d ask about the strangers who became friends.

The wrong turns that led to unforgettable discoveries.

The quiet train rides that gave him time to think.

The cafés that weren’t in any guidebook but somehow became the highlight of the trip.

Because those are the moments that stay with us long after our suitcases are unpacked.

As someone who loves to travel, I’ve realized that every journey leaves behind something invisible. A new perspective. A little more courage. A little more confidence to wander into unfamiliar streets and trust that you’ll find your way.

Sometimes I travel with a detailed itinerary.

Sometimes I simply follow curiosity.

Ironically, it’s the unplanned moments that become my favorite stories. The café hidden in an old neighborhood. The church I stumbled upon while trying to find another destination. The conversation with a stranger who made me smile. Even getting lost has become part of the adventure.

I imagine Phileas Fogg would understand that perfectly.

I’d also ask him one question I’ve often asked myself:

“When you reached the end of your journey, what was the greatest thing you brought home?”

I don’t think his answer would be a passport filled with stamps.

It wouldn’t be souvenirs or photographs.

I think he’d smile and say that the greatest souvenir was the person he had become.

That’s the kind of traveler I aspire to be.

To collect stories instead of things.

To appreciate moments instead of rushing through them.

To realize that every city has something to teach us, if we’re willing to slow down and look.

By the time dinner was over, I imagine we’d have a map spread across the table, cups of coffee growing cold, and a list of places we’d both want to explore next.

Because the best journeys don’t really end.

They simply inspire the next one.

After all, the world is far too beautiful to stop wandering.

The Art of the Pivot: Adapting Your Business in a Changing Landscape

If the past few years have taught business owners anything, it’s this: adaptability isn’t just an advantage—it’s a necessity.

When I first began my career, I believed success followed a straight line. You chose a profession, gained experience, built your reputation, and continued climbing. Reality, however, had different plans. Markets shifted. Technology evolved. Consumer expectations changed. Entire industries transformed almost overnight.

Looking back, I’ve realized that the defining moments of my career weren’t the times everything went according to plan. They were the moments I chose to pivot.

Pivoting Isn’t Starting Over

One of the biggest misconceptions about changing direction is that it means abandoning everything you’ve built. In reality, a pivot allows you to leverage your existing experience in new ways.

My own professional journey is a perfect example.

For many years, I worked as a REALTOR®, helping buyers and sellers navigate one of life’s biggest decisions. Real estate taught me invaluable lessons about communication, negotiation, branding, customer service, and relationship building. Those skills didn’t disappear when my career evolved—they became the foundation for something new.

Today, I run LK Marketing, where I help real estate professionals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses tell their stories through strategic marketing, social media, branding, and content creation. While the industry focus expanded, the mission remained the same: helping people connect with the right audience and grow their business.

The title changed. The purpose didn’t.

The Business Landscape Never Stops Changing

Every few years, businesses face a new wave of disruption.

• Social media changes its algorithms.
• AI transforms how we create content.
• Consumer behavior evolves.
• Economic conditions shift.
• Marketing channels emerge—and disappear.

Companies that cling to “the way we’ve always done it” often find themselves struggling to keep up.

Those willing to learn, experiment, and adapt are the ones that continue to grow.

Adaptability isn’t about chasing every trend. It’s about recognizing which changes create opportunities and having the courage to embrace them.

Reinvention Requires Humility

Pivoting also requires admitting that you don’t have all the answers.

When artificial intelligence began reshaping the marketing industry, many professionals viewed it as a threat. I chose to see it differently.

Rather than resisting change, I invested time learning how AI could improve my workflow, generate ideas, streamline research, and increase efficiency—while still keeping the human creativity and strategy that clients value most.

Technology didn’t replace my expertise.

It amplified it.

The willingness to remain a student—even after years of professional experience—is one of the greatest competitive advantages any business owner can have.

Your Skills Are More Transferable Than You Think

One lesson I’ve learned is that experience rarely goes to waste.

Taking on unfamiliar projects.

None of those steps felt completely comfortable.

But comfort rarely leads to growth.

The businesses that thrive aren’t necessarily the biggest or the oldest. They’re the ones willing to evolve without losing sight of their core values.

The Future Belongs to the Adaptable

No one can accurately predict what the next five years will bring. New technologies will emerge. Consumer expectations will continue to shift. Industries will keep evolving.

The question isn’t whether change is coming.

The question is how you’ll respond when it does.

The Art of the Pivot: Adapting Your Business in a Changing Landscape

If the past few years have taught business owners anything, it’s this: adaptability isn’t just an advantage—it’s a necessity.

When I first began my career, I believed success followed a straight line. You chose a profession, gained experience, built your reputation, and continued climbing. Reality, however, had different plans. Markets shifted. Technology evolved. Consumer expectations changed. Entire industries transformed almost overnight.

Looking back, I’ve realized that the defining moments of my career weren’t the times everything went according to plan. They were the moments I chose to pivot.

Pivoting Isn’t Starting Over

One of the biggest misconceptions about changing direction is that it means abandoning everything you’ve built. In reality, a pivot allows you to leverage your existing experience in new ways.

My own professional journey is a perfect example.

For many years, I worked as a REALTOR®, helping buyers and sellers navigate one of life’s biggest decisions. Real estate taught me invaluable lessons about communication, negotiation, branding, customer service, and relationship building. Those skills didn’t disappear when my career evolved—they became the foundation for something new.

Today, I run LK Marketing, where I help real estate professionals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses tell their stories through strategic marketing, social media, branding, and content creation. While the industry focus expanded, the mission remained the same: helping people connect with the right audience and grow their business.

The title changed. The purpose didn’t.

The Business Landscape Never Stops Changing

Every few years, businesses face a new wave of disruption.

• Social media changes its algorithms.
• AI transforms how we create content.
• Consumer behavior evolves.
• Economic conditions shift.
• Marketing channels emerge—and disappear.

Companies that cling to “the way we’ve always done it” often find themselves struggling to keep up.

Those willing to learn, experiment, and adapt are the ones that continue to grow.

Adaptability isn’t about chasing every trend. It’s about recognizing which changes create opportunities and having the courage to embrace them.

Reinvention Requires Humility

Pivoting also requires admitting that you don’t have all the answers.

When artificial intelligence began reshaping the marketing industry, many professionals viewed it as a threat. I chose to see it differently.

Rather than resisting change, I invested time learning how AI could improve my workflow, generate ideas, streamline research, and increase efficiency—while still keeping the human creativity and strategy that clients value most.

Technology didn’t replace my expertise.

It amplified it.

The willingness to remain a student—even after years of professional experience—is one of the greatest competitive advantages any business owner can have.

Your Skills Are More Transferable Than You Think

One lesson I’ve learned is that experience rarely goes to waste.

Whether you’ve worked in sales, education, healthcare, finance, retail, or hospitality, you’ve developed skills that translate across industries:

The funniest misunderstanding I keep walking into…

The Conversation That Happens Almost Every Day in Thailand

If there is one misunderstanding that has followed me throughout my years in Thailand, it is this:

People think I’m Thai.

It happens so often that I’ve stopped being surprised.

Whether I’m ordering coffee, shopping at a local market, checking into a hotel, or simply asking for directions, the conversation almost always begins the same way. Someone smiles warmly and starts speaking to me in Thai, assuming I’m a local.

For a few seconds, I wish I could understand every word.

Instead, I smile and reply in English.

That’s when I see the same expression every single time. Their eyes widen just a little, followed by a surprised smile.

“Where are you from?”

“The Philippines.”

Almost immediately comes the next question.

“So… you’re a teacher?”

I can’t help but smile again.

“No,” I reply. “I’m an engineer.”

And just like that, what could have been a thirty-second interaction transforms into a conversation.

“An engineer? Really?”

“What kind of engineer?”

“How long have you been in Thailand?”

“Do you speak Thai?”

“What company do you work for?”

Before I know it, we’ve gone from ordering a cup of coffee to talking about careers, cultures, family, travel, and life.

I find it amusing that my face seems to write one story while my life tells another.

People see someone who looks Thai.

Then they hear English.

Then they discover I’m Filipino.

Then they assume I’m a teacher.

Finally, they learn I’m an engineer working in the packaging industry.

Every answer replaces one assumption with another, until we’re both laughing about how wrong the first impression was.

I don’t mind these misunderstandings at all.

In fact, they’ve become some of my favorite moments.

They remind me that first impressions are simply starting points, not final chapters. We all make quick assumptions because that’s how our minds work. The wonderful part comes afterward, when curiosity takes over and we discover there’s so much more beneath the surface.

Living and traveling abroad has taught me that identity isn’t something people can accurately guess from appearance alone.

A smile doesn’t have a nationality.

An accent doesn’t tell someone’s whole story.

A profession can’t be predicted by the way someone looks.

Every stranger we meet is carrying a story that no first impression could ever tell.

So if you ever meet me in Thailand, feel free to speak Thai first.

I’ll probably smile, answer in English, and together we’ll begin the same delightful conversation that has happened countless times before.

Who knows?

It might just become one of those unexpected moments that reminds us how beautifully diverse our world really is.

Sometimes the funniest misunderstandings become the best conversations.
