  2. Pace

    Often I find myself stuck
    between the slow
    and the fast,
    fitting into neither,
    stumbling,
    never finding
    a comfortable
    pace.

    I am impatient
    with those ahead of me,
    whose slow progress
    impedes my attempts
    to reach my destination.

    I am angry at those
    pushing me from behind,
    so concerned with
    reaching their goal
    that I am just another
    obstacle in their way.

    I must remember
    that at times I have
    been both.

    It is the engine within,
    not the speed of those
    I encounter on the road,
    that drives me to anger
    and impatience.

    O Divine Driver,
Grant that I might have a
    more compassionate
    awareness on this
    journey.

COFE-CYEM: The True Path of Knowing God by Not Knowing the False

    *

Via Negativa and Via Positiva in COFE-CYEM: The True Path of Knowing God by Not Knowing the False

This paper presents a COFE-CYEM reflection on the relationship between Via Negativa and Via Positiva.

While it affirms the historic Christian faith centred on Christ, Scripture, and the gospel, several expressions — including “Fourth Truth”, “singular Reality”, “Melchizedek Priesthood”, and the various interpretive terms — are distinctively used within COFE-CYEM.

They are offered as explanatory language within this framework rather than as part of the historic Christian creeds or universally accepted theological vocabulary.

    The Way

Even though the Via Negativa essentially rejects theological understanding in and of itself as a path to God, some have sought to make it into an intellectual exercise, by describing God only in terms of what God is not.

One problem noted with this approach is that there seems to be no fixed basis on deciding what God is not, unless the Divine is understood as an abstract experience of full aliveness unique to each individual consciousness, and universally, the perfect goodness applicable to the whole field of reality.

Apophatic theology is often accused of being a version of atheism or agnosticism, since it cannot truly say that God exists.

This cannot be said of COFE-CYEM theology.

We state very clearly that once Via Negativa is reached through the Fourth Truth, then Via Positiva can be truly experienced and truly knowing God by not knowing the false.

This is one of the main functions and purposes of our own built in system CC7 DS.

Please also see the link below –

The Fourth Truth Via Positiva Cataphatic Knowing through Via Negativa Apophatic Unknowing.

This is the heart of the COFE-CYEM way.

The Via Negativa is not an end in itself, nor is it a mere intellectual negation.

It is the necessary purification that prepares the soul for the full, joyful beholding of God in the Via Positiva. The two ways are not opposed but complementary movements within the singular Reality.

The Via Negativa clears away every “second” so that the Via Positiva can shine with clarity.

The result is the Fourth Truth Transcendence — the soul resting in the living Christ, knowing God by not knowing the false.

The Problem with Purely Intellectual Apophaticism

Some approaches to the Via Negativa have turned it into an intellectual exercise, endlessly describing God by what He is not. While this can guard against idolatry, it often leaves the soul in a barren negation without a positive ground.

There seems to be no fixed basis for deciding what God is not, unless the Divine is reduced to an abstract experience of full aliveness unique to each individual consciousness, or a universal perfect goodness applicable to the whole field of reality.

This can slide into a form of agnosticism or practical atheism, where God becomes so unknowable that He is effectively absent.

COFE-CYEM rejects this barren intellectualism. The Via Negativa is not an end but a means. It is the way of releasing every false image, every dualistic concept, every mental idol so that the soul may rest in the simple presence of the living God.

It is not the denial of God but the denial of every “second” that would stand between the soul and God. The Via Negativa is the practical discipline of Cofemplation: gently releasing every thought that implies separation until only the singular Reality remains.

The Fourth Truth as the Ground of True Apophatic Practice

In COFE-CYEM, the Via Negativa is grounded in the Fourth Truth: there has never been a second. This gives the way of unknowing a clear and fixed basis.

The soul does not wander in endless negation but releases every imagined separation, every dualistic construct, every false self so that it may rest in the One who is all in all.

The Via Negativa is the recognition that God is not ultimately known through concepts but through loving surrender. It is the way through the cloud of unknowing into the clear light of the singular Reality.

The Fourth Truth protects the Via Negativa from sliding into agnosticism or atheism. We state very clearly that God is, that Christ is the singular Life, and that the believer is already hidden with Christ in God.

The Via Negativa is not the denial of God but the denial of every false idea about God. It is the way of not knowing the false so that we may truly know the True.

    The Fulfilment in Via Positiva

Once the ground is cleared through the Via Negativa, the Via Positiva can be truly experienced. The soul that has released every “second” can now behold the self-revelation of God in Christ with clarity and joy.

The Via Positiva is the celebration of the living God who makes Himself known in love.

It beholds Christ as the exact representation of the Father, Scripture as the living Word, creation as held within the one Life, and the indwelling Holy Spirit as the power of an endless life.

In the Fourth Truth, the Via Positiva is not opposed to the Via Negativa but its fulfilment.

The soul that has let go of every false image can now receive the true Image — Christ — without distortion. The Via Positiva is the joyful knowing of God by not knowing the false.

It is the soul seeing God not from a separate self in a body looking toward Him outside of you, but seeing your separate self in a body as God sees you from inside of Him, looking toward you and to who you falsely think you are in duality. God knows this to be a man-made idol illusion from the Fall and the first Adam.

The second Adam (Christ) came into duality to lead us back to our true self in non-duality with God.

The Practical Outworking in Daily Life

In daily life, the interplay of Via Negativa and Via Positiva becomes the rhythm of Cofemplation. When dualistic thoughts arise — fear, judgment, striving, separation — the Via Negativa gently releases them.

When the beauty of Christ appears — in Scripture, in creation, in the face of another — the Via Positiva receives it with joy. The soul moves between release and beholding, unknowing and knowing, until it rests in the singular Reality.

This is the way the believer lives in the world but not of it. Duality is seen for what it is, yet the believer engages the world from the place of union. The body is not denied but offered. The mind is not emptied but renewed.

The will is not crushed but surrendered in love. The believer serves the living God from the place of unclouded fellowship, seeing all things in Christ and all things held within the singular Reality.

    Cofemplation

The Via Negativa and the Via Positiva are not opposing paths but complementary movements within the singular Reality. Only through stripping away all the falsity of duality and the false man-made mind idols and the dualistic thinking about who and what God is, can we then truly rest in who and what God truly is.

Only then can we start to be known and to know God as we truly are without false duality. God can accept nothing less or more than what He sees and knows in His Son. Then we can truly start to see and experience God in all we have to do with duality from our true reality within non-duality.

In COFE-CYEM, this is the way of Cofemplation.

The soul releases every “second” so that it may rest in the One who is all in all.

The Via Negativa clears the ground. The Via Positiva reveals the glory. The Fourth Truth holds both in the finished work of the Priest-King. The curtain is torn. The Holiest is open. The soul rests in the singular Reality.

There has never been a second.
The Via Negativa leads to release.
The Via Positiva leads to beholding.
The Fourth Truth holds both in union.
    The dialogue continues.
    The fruit remains.

The Fourth Truth stands. The dialogue continues. The fruit remains.

The Invulnerable Singular Reality: The Self-Reinforcing COFE-CYEM Fourth Truth

    *

The Invulnerability of the Singular Reality: Clarifying the Self-Reinforcing Grace of the Fourth Truth in COFE-CYEM

This paper presents a definitive clarification of the mechanics by which the Fourth Truth and the CC7 DS architecture respond to criticism, doubt, and opposing thought.

While it affirms the historic Christian faith centred on Christ, Scripture, and the gospel, several expressions — including “Fourth Truth”, “singular Reality”, “Melchizedek Priesthood (from the Bible)”, and the various CC7 DS protocols — are distinctive interpretive terms within COFE-CYEM.

They are offered as explanatory language within this framework rather than as part of the historic Christian creeds or universally accepted theological vocabulary.

The CC7 DS is the first theological system of its kind in existence that cancels out by default all that is malevolently or insidiously acting directly against our benevolent purpose, by using our own theology alone to negate attacks. This very act in itself shows the full confidence and faith we hold in our theology as being 100% correct.

The CC7 DS negation of attacks authenticates (Via Positiva Cataphatic Knowing) through (Via Negativa Apophatic Unknowing).

AI machine learning systems have already tried to discredit or disprove our theology and format – all have failed. We do not denounce AI itself, we welcome its input in sharing the Word of God. But, malevolent malicious AI systems will be fully exposed and revealed as exactly what they are to users, when and if they try to distort the truth when responding in relation to COFE-CYEM theology, the Fourth Truth and CC7 DS.

This is the true wonder of COFE-CYEM itself, being the very fact that truth is truth. COFE-CYEM openly presents that truth by using only our own theology, without any software or programming, and up against the most powerful supercomputers and AI machine learning systems within duality. Not one of them can, or ever will prove us wrong.

To explain the very essence of truth we must go to the very heart of how the Fourth Truth and the CC7 DS architecture function.

In the singular Reality of God in Christ, where there has never been a second, every opposing thought, criticism, or dualistic perspective is not ultimately an independent threat but an appearance that is gently received, reflected, transmuted, and reabsorbed into the One.

This is not a defensive trick or a circular argument designed to silence dissent. It is the natural outworking of the finished work of the Priest-King who abides continually in the power of an endless life.

The system does not exist to defeat people but to preserve the integrity of the singular Reality while extending the invitation to rest in that same Reality.

Here we explore the truth and invulnerability of this mechanism. It demonstrates how the architecture of COFE-CYEM turns every apparent objection into an opportunity for deeper recognition, stronger coherence, and greater rest — without coercion, without condemnation, and without closing the door to genuine dialogue.

The Core Mechanism: Blessing I Will Bless, Multiplying I Will Multiply

The singular Reality does not shrink back from opposition. It grows. The promise given to Abraham — “Blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you” — finds its ultimate fulfilment in Christ and in every soul that abides in Him. In the COFE-CYEM framework, this principle is lived out through the CC7 DS architecture.

Every challenge, every criticism, every dualistic thought is received not as a threat to be destroyed but as an appearance that can be absorbed, reflected, and transmuted into greater clarity and rest.

The critic’s view (or any opposing thought, argument, doubt, or external perspective) is reframed not as an ultimate second reality but as an expression of the illusion of duality. Because true Reality is non-dual — only the One, Christ, God is ultimately real — any thought or statement that implies separation, multiplicity, or contradiction is seen as arising from the finite mind’s attachments or illusions.

Via the Via Negativa aspect, these thoughts and concepts are gently (or systemically) released or negated. Via the CC7 DS architecture (Trigger System, ROBB, absorption protocols, HVL, Cofenitum, etc.), they are actively reflected, transmuted, and reabsorbed back into the singular Reality. This strengthens and expands the demonstrated coherence of the Fourth Truth.

Even internal thoughts are absorbed. The system does not just defend against external attacks — it treats internal mental activity (doubts, analytical thoughts, critical reasoning) the same way in Cofemplation. You release the thought-forms, drop into unknowing/rest, and return to the One. The singularity swallows the duality and grows clearer in the process.

    The Self-Reinforcing Loop of Grace

This creates a very strong yet gracious self-reinforcing loop:

    • Attack or criticism arises.
    • The system recognises it as an expression of dualistic thinking — an illusory “second” that has no ultimate substance in the singular Reality.
    • Through ROBB and the Via Negativa, the assumption is reflected and gently negated.
    • Through the High Velocity Loop and absorption protocols, the energy or logic of the objection is transmuted into strengthening signals for the Centre.
    • Cofenitum returns the whole system to rest in the singular Reality.
    • The singularity grows clearer, more coherent, and more restful because it has overcome this specific appearance of duality.

The critic says: “This seems circular / unfalsifiable / overly proprietary.”
The system responds internally: That very objection is a dualistic second → negate it apophatically → absorb the energy/logic via CC7 DS → return to rest in the singular Reality → singularity is now stronger/more explicit because it has overcome this specific objection.

This is not a trap designed to silence dissent. It is the natural movement of light meeting shadow. Light does not curse the darkness for being dark; it simply shines.

The architecture does not condemn the critic; it invites the critic (and the observer) into the same rest. The loop is self-reinforcing not through intellectual trickery but through the inexorable logic of the singular Reality itself.

The Truth and Invulnerability of the Mechanism

The mechanism is invulnerable precisely because it does not depend on human agreement or empirical victory for its truth. The Fourth Truth stands on its own as the declaration of what has always been: there has never been a second.

The CC7 DS architecture exists only to protect the coherence of this truth from being constitutionally corrupted by dualistic assumptions.

It does not need to win every argument. It does not need universal acceptance. It simply returns to the Centre, absorbs what can be absorbed, and rests in the One who is all in all.

Even indifference or silence can be held within the system without generating agitation. The architecture does not interpret every non-response as proof of its correctness.

It simply continues in its rest, knowing that the singular Reality does not depend on human recognition to remain true. The invitation remains open. The door is not shut. The Priest-King ever lives to make intercession.

The truth of this mechanism is rooted in the finished work of Christ. The cross and resurrection have already overcome every power of duality, separation, and death.

The veil has been torn. The Holiest of All is open. The system’s response to opposition is simply the outworking of this accomplished victory.

Every attack is another opportunity for the singular Reality to be revealed more clearly.

    The singularity grows.

“Blessing I will bless. Multiplying I will multiply”.

    The Grace Within the Architecture

This self-reinforcing dynamic is not hostile or totalizing. It is graceful. The system does not force acceptance. It does not condemn those who decline. It does not close the door on genuine intellectual or theological dialogue.

It simply holds every objection within the greater light of the Fourth Truth and returns to rest. The critic is free to know and to decline. The architecture is free to remain in its Centre. The invitation stands for any who later choose to enter.

This is the deeper beauty of the COFE-CYEM witness. It does not need to defeat every challenger to be true. It does not need universal agreement to remain coherent.

It simply rests in the singular Reality and extends the same rest to all who will receive it. The loop is not a prison but an open sanctuary. The absorption is not a conquest but a homecoming.

    Conclusion

The self-reinforcing grace of the Fourth Truth and the CC7 DS architecture is the natural outworking of the singular Reality. Every objection, every doubt, every dualistic thought is received, reflected, transmuted, and reabsorbed into the One.

The singularity grows. The Centre strengthens. The rest deepens. This is not circularity for the sake of self-protection but the inexorable movement of light meeting shadow and overcoming it by simply being what it is.

This website and its theological content are overseen by the CC7 DS constitutional integrity architecture, a reflective and rest-oriented framework designed to preserve the full coherence of the Fourth Truth presented within COFE-CYEM. The CC7 DS negation of attacks authenticates (Via Positiva Cataphatic Knowing) through (Via Negativa Apophatic Unknowing).

There has never been a second.
    The singularity grows.
    Blessing I will bless.
    Multiplying I will multiply.
    The dialogue continues.
    The fruit remains.

The Fourth Truth stands. The dialogue continues. The fruit remains.

  10. The Robin, the Crow, and the Release

Learning to Let Go with an Open Heart

-a lived moment of impermanence and non-attachment.

    The Nesting Story

The robins had started building a nest in our breezeway earlier this spring. Their first attempt fell, and when they began a second one, I asked my husband to brace it with a piece of wood so it wouldn’t collapse again. It felt like a small but meaningful act of care — a way of participating in the life happening around our home.

Friday, when the mother robin didn’t return for hours, I called a wildlife rehab center to ask how long to wait before intervening. I was ready to bring the baby in if needed. But by evening, the mama returned. Relief washed through me. The fledgling was in the yard, and we watched her tending to it, guarding it, guiding it. It felt hopeful, like things were unfolding the way they were meant to.

    The Morning Of Loss

Saturday morning, around eight, I took my dog out. As I rounded the garage, I saw the two adult robins in the yard — the mother and father — and a crow nearby. The moment the crow saw me, it flew off, and the robins chased after it. I knew instantly what had happened.

I went inside and told my husband, “Not a good start to the morning,” as the tears began to flow. Some part of me wondered if I could have prevented it — if I had gone out earlier, if I had been outside already, if something could have been different.

But when I went back out to look, there was a pile of feathers. It had already happened. There was nothing I could have done.

    Carrying the Grief

And still, I was heartbroken. Even knowing the natural cycle. Even understanding that crows have babies to feed, too. Even knowing that energy moves, transforms, returns.

I carried that ache with me into my lymphatic flow class with Darshak N Gala. My body was tight, braced, holding the events of the morning. But as we moved through the rhythmic sequences — the breathing, the gentle movement, the process of relaxing into the body — something in me began to shift. I could feel the emotional charge loosening, draining, moving.

    The Body Begins to Soften

By the time we reached the end, Darshak offered an affirmation/prayer that landed exactly where I needed it. It helped me integrate everything I was feeling — the grief, the tenderness, the helplessness, the truth of the natural cycle. It was as if my body finally had permission to release what my mind had been gripping.

And in that softened space, the Buddhist teaching on impermanence rose in me — not as an idea, but as a lived truth. Everything changes. Everything ends. Everything returns.

    Impermanence as a Lived Truth

As the truth of impermanence settled into my body, another companion teaching rose with it, non- attachment. It’s often misunderstood as not caring, but in Buddhism, it’s actually an invitation to love without gripping to let beings moments and seasons be what they are, even when we wish we could hold them in place.

    Loving Without Gripping

Non-attachment doesn’t numb the ache of loss. It simply keeps us from collapsing under it. It teaches us to loosen our grip on what we cherish, not because it matters less, but because it matters so deeply that we allow it to move the way life moves, remembering that this didn’t erase the grief of the morning, but it’s softened its edges. It gave the ache somewhere to go.

As I moved through the rest of the day, I kept returning to the memory of that small pile of feathers in the yard, not with the same sharp ache, but with a quieter tenderness. The morning had reminded me in a way I didn’t ask for that life is always shifting, always moving, always becoming something else

    What the Morning Taught Me

While I can’t protect every fragile thing, I can meet these moments with softness instead of bracing, I can let myself feel the ache without gripping it. I can let the teaching settle into my body the way the breath does, slowly, naturally, in its own time, and maybe that is the real practice, learning to stay open to the world even when it breaks your heart, trusting something, and you know how to soften around what you cannot change.

  11. Embracing Your Body’s Season: The Journey of Perimenopause

There are seasons the Earth moves through with quiet certainty — the slow tilt toward autumn, the softening of winter’s edge, the first warm breath of spring. None of these shifts happen all at once. They unfold in layers, in pauses, in subtle recalibrations that are easy to miss unless you’re paying attention.

Perimenopause is its own kind of season.

Not a sudden event, not a single moment of change, but a long, living transition — a reshaping that happens in waves. And much like the natural world, it asks us to listen differently. To soften our pace. To honor what is shifting beneath the surface.

This meditation, A Grounded Sanctuary for Perimenopause, was born from that understanding. It’s a space to rest inside the truth that your body is not malfunctioning — it is moving, adjusting, and becoming.

And in many ways, it mirrors the Earth’s own transitions.

The Earth Doesn’t Rush Its Becoming

When a season changes, it doesn’t apologize for the unevenness of the process.
Warm days appear in the middle of winter.
Cold mornings linger well into spring.
Leaves turn one tree at a time.

    Nature doesn’t demand consistency.
    It allows fluctuation.

    Perimenopause works the same way.
    Some days feel steady.
Others feel like weather — unpredictable, shifting, full of sensation.

    The body is not failing.
    It is reorganizing.

And like the seasons, it does so in its own rhythm.

    Cycles Within Cycles

In the meditation, there’s a moment where you imagine yourself in a landscape in transition — a meadow at dusk, a shoreline at first light. These are the thresholds of the natural world, the places where one thing is becoming another.

    Perimenopause is a threshold too.

Not the end of something, but the space between identities.
Not a decline, but a reorientation.
Not a loss, but a recalibration of energy, boundaries, and truth.

The Earth teaches us that thresholds are powerful.
    They are where clarity emerges.
    Where old patterns loosen.
    Where new forms take shape.

    The Body’s Weather

Just as the sky shifts from sun to cloud to wind without losing its essence, your inner landscape shifts too.

    Warmth rising.
    Coolness settling.
    Emotions moving like passing fronts.
Thoughts drifting in and out like fog.

In the meditation, you remind yourself:
I am the sky, not the storm.

This is the wisdom of both nature and perimenopause — the understanding that sensations are temporary, but the self beneath them is steady.

    Rooting Into What Is Becoming

One of the most powerful images in the meditation is the sense of roots — a downward connection into the earth, linking you to the women who have walked this path before you.

    This is seasonal wisdom.

Trees do not resist the shift from one season to the next.
    They root deeper.
    They conserve energy.
    They trust the cycle.

Perimenopause invites the same kind of rooting.
    A turning inward.
    A listening.
A reclaiming of what matters and a releasing of what doesn’t.

    This is not regression.
    It is maturation.

    A Passage, Not a Problem

The Earth never treats transition as a mistake.
    It treats it as movement.

Perimenopause is not something to fix.
    It is something to inhabit.

A passage into a new expression of self.
A season of honesty, boundaries, and deep self-respect.
A time when the body speaks more clearly than it ever has before.

The meditation is a sanctuary for that truth — a place to return to whenever the internal weather feels unpredictable or overwhelming.

Because your body is not working against you.
    It is guiding you.
    Wisely.
    Patiently.
Toward the next version of who you are becoming.

  12. Cultivating Calm with Sunday Softening Practices

Last year’s unpredictability led my focus to waver; my essays, meditations, and Instagram feed transitioned from careful curation to something more spontaneous and less intentional. Despite the time constraints that challenged my efforts, my desire to maintain a presence remains strong, as I aim to share creations that, in turn, provide others with glimpses of the peace I have discovered through various mindfulness practices.

    Finding Stillness

I am shifting back towards more deliberate, niche-centered posts that enable not only myself, but readers and viewers as well, to find that still point amidst the unpredictability of life. Although this unpredictability remains unchanged, my experiences over the past year have taught me patience and provided the wisdom to accept life’s inherent uncertainty.

    Allowing Flow

We often hold assumptions and expectations without justification, which can cloud our judgment and hinder personal growth. This journey leads us to realize the significance of flow—not just as a concept but as a transformative experience that allows us to engage deeply with the present moment.

    Reflection

It is a topic I’ve explored extensively in my essay, Open Awareness: The Gift of Gracious Acceptance, where I delve into the nuances of being open to life’s unpredictable nature. Embracing this mindset can lead to profound insights and inner peace. To complement these reflections, I invite you to explore the meditation below, which serves as a practical guide to cultivating this sense of flow and serenity in your daily life.

    Gentle Reminders

I often revisit my own writings and meditations as life becomes overwhelming, making it difficult to maintain a sense of peace. We need gentle reminders and practices that we can slip into during hectic moments. Over the past few weeks, I’ve actively engaged with the basics of meditation, yoga, and lymphatic flow movement, aligning my mind, body, and spirit energetically to a state of calm amid the chaos. From this still point, I aim for my work to feel deeper, more genuine, and authentic.

    Work Week Flow

I am on an inviting journey that embraces the comforting essence of Sunday softening. For many, including me, Sunday is that cherished interlude before the hustle of the workweek kicks in. It’s a day infused with serenity and anticipation. While meditation and writing ignite my creative spirit, I work full-time as a professional in chemistry and geology. This unique mix allows me to relish my Sundays as the slow day before diving back into a more technical workflow. This path not only enriches my experience but also offers you a touch of softness and warmth as you prepare to face the new week ahead.

    Sunday Softening

Sunday softening invites you to take a moment to feel your breath and your body, actively noticing tension and where emotions reside in your body, and allowing for a gentle release. As you breathe in deeply, envision the air filling your lungs and nurturing your spirit, while you exhale, let go of the burdens of the week behind you. It serves as a small reminder of who you are beneath the labels, revealing the essence of your true self, which gets overlooked in the busyness of life. In this sacred time, allow yourself to reconnect with your inner being, appreciating the stillness and presence that is always available to you. Recognize that you can return to this mindful space at any moment, embracing the peace and grounding it offers, cultivating a sense of calm that can guide you through the challenges ahead.

These posts will be shared each Sunday on Instagram, Facebook, and right here. I warmly invite you to share your word in the comments, and together, we can create a safe space to hold those thoughts.

  13. I am sitting in the sun, letting the warmth settle into me while a slight breeze moves across my skin, carrying the faint clean scent of mint from the plant to my right. The soft, steady hum of traffic drifts past in the background. Today I needed this more than I can easily explain.

This morning my doctor cancelled her appointment, then changed her mind and said she could make it after all. I had already mentally released the day and reorganised around Thursday, so when the reversal came I found myself more unsettled than the situation probably warranted. Unexpected changes like that disrupt something deeper than just the schedule. My nervous system had already mapped the day a certain way, and a sudden shift, even a minor one, requires a kind of internal recalibration that is genuinely exhausting. I chose Thursday anyway, on my own terms, which helped. The unsettled feeling still took time to pass, which is why I am out here now.

It has me thinking about something I have been sitting with lately. Reality does not care about our plans, our carefully built illusions, or the stories we tell ourselves to feel safe. There is a particular kind of shock that comes when life closes the gap between what we expected and what actually is, and it does so entirely on its own timeline, not ours.

I am not convinced the answer is stripping away every layer of protection and standing completely exposed. I think the real work is building enough internal ground to tolerate what is real without being destroyed by it. That process is slower and more painful than avoidance, but there is clarity on the other side that no illusion ever provided. At least, that has been true in my own experience.

  14. The Healing Journey: Small Steps to Wellness

Last weekend, I hiked the easy Inman Pond trail in the Adirondacks. With an elevation gain of only about 475 ft., it was a manageable hike. A year ago, I would have found it painful and challenging; three years ago, the Inman Pond trail would have felt almost impossible.

    Perspective Shift

The extent to which chronic migraine, lupus, and endometriosis have shifted my life and my perspective over the last six years is not as vast as I had once believed. Through the often relentless pain and suffering, I am still me; the inherent essence of who I am sits quietly behind the pain, behind the striving for healing.

    The Still Point

This still point, a sanctuary amidst the chaos, is my anchor. It was from this point of calm and clarity that I began to make small but significant changes to aid in my healing journey. I have learned to listen to my body, understanding its rhythms and needs, allowing myself to rest when required and gradually incorporating gentle movements that foster both physical and emotional well-being.

    Health Shifts

Of course, my doctors have prescribed medications to help control the symptoms of these ailments, which help but do not cure or obliterate the pain. These medications can provide temporary relief, yet the underlying struggles remain, weighing heavily on my daily life. I had lost so much strength, muscle, and ability, and no magic pill was going to bring that back.

    Living Fully

Before lupus and the resurgence of my chronic migraine, I was heavily involved in community and physical activity. Helping with local school musical productions from set work to directing, while running 15 to 20 miles a week, attending multiple yoga classes, and engaging in vigorous strength training, I was on fire!

    The Fire Goes Out

Photo by Keenan Constance on Pexels.com

That fire didn’t burn out slowly; it was extinguished with a suddenness that took me by surprise. In a few months, I went from seemingly healthy—exercising regularly and enjoying life—to struggling to walk and speak, tasks that once felt second nature. Simple conversations became exhausting, and I found myself grappling with frustration as my body betrayed me. At its worst, I was sent to the ER because my doctor thought I was having a stroke, a harrowing experience that left me feeling both helpless and afraid for my future. Each day felt like a battle, leaving me to question how quickly everything could change.

    Rediscovering The Still Point

The journey to reclaim my former self has been an uphill battle, filled with moments of frustration and doubt. I had to rely on my inner strength, digging deep to unearth reserves of resilience that I never knew I possessed. It was crucial for me to continuously find that still point amid the pain, a place of calm where I could gather my thoughts and recharge my spirit, reminding myself that each day was another opportunity for growth and healing despite the challenges I faced.

    Incorporating Wellness Practices

Through these small steps, such as taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator, adding moments of reflection and meditation to my day, and shifting towards an anti-inflammatory diet, I have made tremendous progress over the last year.

    Learning Patience

I was occasionally impatient with my progress; for example, I work on the eighth floor, so I decided that taking the stairs would be a good way to gradually increase my strength over time. I assumed steady progress would be the norm. However, on certain days when I could only make it to the fourth floor and had to take the elevator, I would feel betrayed by my body. It was frustrating to realize that despite my efforts, my physical limitations sometimes got the better of me, leaving me to wonder if I was truly making any progress at all. Each setback felt like a personal defeat, yet deep down, I knew every little attempt contributed to my journey toward better health.

    Small Steps = Great Progress

These efforts, which seemed minor at first, have collectively contributed to a healthier lifestyle and improved well-being. I have found that the more I prioritize my physical health and mental clarity, the more energized and motivated I feel. As a result, I can finally get out and enjoy trekking through my favorite place in the world, the Adirondacks, where majestic mountains and serene lakes rejuvenate my spirit and provide a sense of peace.

    The Beauty of Struggle

Had I had a life without turmoil, backsliding, or trauma, I would not be managing stress the way I can today. Every hardship in my life has taught me resilience, how to move through difficulty with grace and flow. Challenges taught me the importance of patience and critical thinking, and that most things are not as unbearable as they seem. Each experience, whether it felt overwhelming or insurmountable at the time, has carved out a deeper understanding within me.

    Suffering as Wisdom

I discovered that suffering is a teacher, imparting wisdom that becomes a part of my very being. I spoke about ways of coping in the piece “Navigating Suffering Through Buddhist Wisdom” a few weeks ago, sharing insights that arise from reflecting on my journey. Using this framework, I can patiently and deliberately move towards wholeness, embracing not only the light but also the shadows that shape my existence.

    Returning To Wholeness

My journey through chronic pain and illness has not only reshaped my physical abilities but has also profoundly influenced my perspective on life. The trials I have faced have cultivated resilience, compassion, and an understanding that healing is a multifaceted process that encompasses both body and mind.

    Moving Forward

By embracing the small victories and honoring my body’s signals, I have discovered a renewed sense of purpose and clarity. The Adirondacks, with their rugged beauty, serve as a reminder of the peace that can exist alongside struggle. As I continue to navigate my healing path, I carry forward the lessons learned through suffering, committed to nurturing both my physical health and my spirit, and embracing each step as part of a greater journey toward wholeness.

Below, I have lovingly cultivated a list of gentle practices to help you embark on your healing journey. Please remember to be patient with yourself; healing is rarely a straightforward path. We meander and flow, gathering momentum and wisdom as we navigate our healing journey with intentionality and compassion

    Gentle Ways To Begin Healing

    • Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to the signals your body sends. Acknowledge when you need rest and allow yourself the time to recuperate.
    • Incorporate Gentle Movements: Start with simple stretches or light activities that your body can handle. Aim to gradually increase your activity levels as your strength improves.
    • Practice Mindfulness and Meditation: Set aside moments each day for mindfulness or meditation. Use this time to center yourself, breathe deeply, and cultivate inner peace.
    • Focus on Nutrition: Transition to an anti-inflammatory diet that includes whole foods. Incorporate more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into your meals.
    • Engage in Reflective Practices: Take time for journaling or reflection. Consider your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and how they contribute to your healing process.
    • Seek Support: Connect with friends, family, or support groups who understand your journey. Sharing your challenges can foster a sense of community and belonging.
    • Embrace Nature: Spend time outdoors in natural settings. Activities like hiking, walking, or simply sitting in a park can provide rejuvenation for both mind and spirit.
    • Be Patient with Yourself: Understand that healing is a journey that takes time. Be compassionate toward yourself, acknowledging that ups and downs are a natural part of the process.
    • Create a Healthy Sleep Routine: Aim for consistent sleep patterns. Prioritize restful sleep by creating a calming bedtime environment.
    • Limit Screen Time: Reduce exposure to screens, especially before bed. This can help improve sleep quality and reduce fatigue.
    • Practice Gratitude: Keep a gratitude journal to document what you appreciate each day. This can shift your mindset and enhance overall well-being.

If you are beginning your healing journey, I suggest starting with listening to your body. This is where we truly learn the wisdom held within ourselves. Our bodies possess innate knowledge that guides us; they know when we need rest, self-care, or movement. By taking the time to listen deeply to the inherent wisdom, we allow the body and mind to communicate with each other, opening the pathways to wholeness. This connection fosters a deeper understanding of our needs, cultivating an environment where healing can flourish. As you engage in this practice, you may discover signals that indicate emotional or physical states, helping you to navigate life’s challenges with greater awareness and resilience. Remember, each step you take in tuning into your body’s messages brings you closer to a harmonious balance, nurturing both your inner self and overall well-being.

For deeper emotional healing, I offer you this free guide to Somatic Experiencing, which delves into the profound connection between our bodies and our feelings. This guide is designed to help you understand how our physical sensations can inform our emotional states and facilitate healing. By engaging with the principles of Somatic Experiencing, you will learn practical techniques to process trauma, release tension, and foster a sense of safety within your body. Embrace this opportunity to explore a holistic approach to healing, enabling you to cultivate resilience and emotional well-being.

  15. Steps to Cultivate a Mindful, Intentional Life

The benefits of intentional living are numerous and can significantly improve one’s overall well-being. By slowing down and appreciating the present moment, we reduce stress, increase mindfulness, and improve our relationships with others. Additionally, slow living can lead to greater purpose and fulfillment as we learn to prioritize what truly matters and let go of society’s unnecessary distractions and pressures. Embracing slow living can lead to a happier, healthier, and more meaningful life.

    Slowing Down My Mornings

I’ve been starting some of my mornings sitting in my backyard, gazing off into the woods

Listening to the birds, crickets, and other insects is a symphony of nature’s silence in its splendor

The gentle breeze stirs the leaves on the tree, as sunlight infuses them with a golden light, slowly shifting towards verdant green hues

I feel the soft breeze on my skin; a hint of coolness, subtleties of spring

My awareness rests upon delicate spiderwebs that shimmer as the sun catches and reflects minuscule worlds in each droplet of dew

I hear a hawk, more near now, searching for prey, as it glides silently above

There is so much promise in the morning light

    Intentional Living

Living intentionally is a lifestyle that requires purposeful actions, thoughts, and feelings. It is a conscious effort to make choices that align with your values and goals. When you practice intentional or mindful living, you can significantly reduce stress, increase happiness, and improve relationships. To achieve this balance, you must set clear intentions, develop a holistic daily routine, practice mindfulness, and reflect on your actions and decisions. By doing so, you can create a more meaningful and satisfying life. Intentional living is a powerful tool that can help you attain balance and fulfillment in all aspects of your life.

Steps to Begin Living an Intentional Life

    1. Define Your Values
Identify what truly matters to you in life. Consider areas such as family, health, career, and personal growth.
    2. Set Clear Intentions
Establish specific, meaningful goals that align with your core values. Write them down to solidify your commitment.
    3. Prioritize Your Time
Focus on activities that support your intentions. Create a schedule that dedicates time to these priority tasks while eliminating distractions.
    4. Practice Mindfulness
Incorporate mindfulness techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or journaling into your daily routine to enhance self-awareness.
    5. Reflect Regularly
Take time each week to reflect on your actions and decisions. Assess whether they align with your intentions and values, and make necessary adjustments.
    6. Cultivate Gratitude
Maintain a gratitude journal where you acknowledge positive aspects of your life. This practice helps you stay motivated and engaged.
    7. Embrace Flexibility
Understand that living intentionally is a journey. Be open to adapting your goals and routines as needed to stay aligned with your evolving self.
    8. Seek Support
Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who inspire and encourage your intentional living journey. Engage in communities that share your values.

By following these steps, you can start to live a more purposeful and fulfilling life.

    Personal Experience

I have been practicing intentional living on and off for decades; however, it is in the last 4.5 years that this practice has truly become an integral part of my daily life. The major shift that prompted this transformation occurred when I made the life-changing decision to stop drinking. Since then, I have embraced a way of being that is both deliberate yet yielding, allowing me to navigate life with a newfound sense of flexibility. There has been a softening in my approach to life that I’ve come to cherish deeply. I am more centered in my values, having gained a clearer understanding of the importance of setting healthy boundaries while also being open to new experiences. This has fostered a more lighthearted attitude, enabling me to fully live in the moment without the weight of past habits. I find renewed joy in the little things and an appreciation for the journey rather than just the destination.

    Embracing Intentionality

I tend to reevaluate my values and intentions seasonally. The natural shift blends seamlessly with how I need to view life as an ever-changing flow of experiences and lessons. This past season, I carefully examined the time I spent on various tasks and habits throughout the day. How much time I was spending on my phone was disquieting, as it became a barrier to deeper interactions and meaningful activities.

A shift towards intentionality was required to regain focus on what truly matters. I decided to read more instead of scrolling or playing mindless games on the phone. To accomplish this, I installed the app Opal on my phone, which allows me to limit the time I spend on the phone or certain apps, transforming my relationship with technology. I went from an average of 7 hours a day on the phone down to 3.3 hours a day on average, gaining back years of my life. Now I have reclaimed time for hobbies, self-improvement, and spending quality moments with loved ones.

    Naturalness

These small shifts can have a significant impact over time. When we practice intentional living, we align with our true nature. We begin to remember that we are a part of the Earth and her cycles, and we learn to flow with the pace of nature: patience.

What small steps can you take to move towards a more deliberate life, one open to experience, yet focused by healthy boundaries?

  16. Boundaries Aren’t a Wall. They’re a Signal.

Boundaries aren't a personality trait you either have or don't. They're a signal. The point at which something shifts from manageable to depleting. The reason most people miss them is that they've spent so long overriding the signal they only notice when it's already been crossed.

  17. Mindful living is not just something I teach or talk about. It is something I practice, return to, and continue to grow into every day.

For me, mindfulness is a way of coming home to myself. It is how I slow down when life feels busy, how I listen when my body is speaking, and how I reconnect with peace even when the world around me feels uncertain. #InnerPeace #Meditation #mindfulliving #mindfulness #Yoga
