  1. 3/3: Protect Your Peace

Self-respect is the master switch for healing. That includes the self-respect to set healthy boundaries. It takes emotional maturity to forgive the past so we can live in the present.

This Sunday, I don’t just celebrate a date on the calendar. I celebrate a foundation built on mutual respect and safety.

It’s about being free from cultural, religious, or emotional debt. We shouldn't have to carry hidden static from our childhood into our adult lives.

To those navigating complicated family waters this weekend: I see you.
You deserve a system that feels safe.

May you find the space to breathe and the strength to protect your own peace. You are allowed to choose regulation over obligation.

  2. 1/3: The Transactional Trap

Mother’s Day can be a complex day. Grateful for my relationship with my mom, but I know many carry a heavy backlog of family stress. We talk about the ideal, but real life shows us different patterns!

I know a mother who tells her adult son daily, "I gave birth to you, so you owe me." This creates an enmeshed cycle.

The bond becomes a transaction. It makes it nearly impossible for the adult child to move from "grip to glide" in their own life. They are carrying a debt that can never be paid.

If you’ve seen the show Bait, you know how heavy that cultural and emotional guilt can be. When we treat family like a ledger, we lose the chance for genuine connection.

Healing starts when we stop using guilt as a tool and start moving toward mutual respect.

  3. "Self-care is your fuel. Whatever the road ahead or the path you've taken, self-care is what keeps your motor running and your wheels turning."

  4. It's spring here, but while many crave cold salads and smoothies, I feel like a grandma. I am craving simmered root veggies, hearty soups, and soul food made with care.

I post about food because I notice many people only care about convenience now. They often buy things that are prepackaged or parboiled.

What happened to slow-cooking and making meals together? Call me nostalgic, but there's something powerfully sexy about feeding your partner a favourite dish you made for them.

This reminds me of a concept called **The Slow Food Effect**. It's about choosing quality and connection over speed. When we slow down to cook, we aren't just making fuel; we're building a bond.

In my work, I focus on self-respect. Real self-respect means listening to what your body actually needs, even if it isn't "trendy" for the season. Regulated bodies do better work when they're nourished with intention.

  5. I went to a women's networking event recently. The speakers talked about buying a house in Shaughnessy at 26 or taking their kids on luxury trips (Rome, Paris, New York).

They called it "inspirational," but it felt like a hollow flex. These weren't stories of small business grit. They were stories backed by high-earning partners or big company exits.

This shows a concept called **Hidden Safety Nets**. When people share success without mentioning generational wealth or financial help they started with, it makes others feel like they aren't working hard enough. In reality, they're just playing a different game.

In my work, I focus on self-respect. Real self-respect means you don't have to mirror someone else's lifestyle to be "enough".

We should celebrate the honest work of regulated bodies. And people who actually succeeded versus marrying into the right family...

  10. A quotation from Eric Hoffer

Unless a man has talents to make something of himself, freedom is an irksome burden. Of what avail is freedom to choose if the self be ineffectual? We join a mass movement to escape individual responsibility, or, in the words of the ardent young Nazi, “to be free from freedom.” It was not sheer hypocrisy when the rank-and-file Nazis declared themselves not guilty of all the enormities they had committed. They considered themselves cheated and maligned when made to shoulder responsibility for obeying orders. Had they not joined the Nazi movement in order to be free from responsibility?

Eric Hoffer (1902-1983) American writer, philosopher, longshoreman
True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements, Part 2, ch. 5, § 26 (1951)

  14. Stop performing for people who do not see your value.

True power is quiet. When you stay silent, it does not mean you are gone. It means you have authority. You are in control of your own space.

Your worth is not a job interview. You do not need to "audition" for love or kindness. If people want access to your energy, they must earn it.

It feels nice when someone says "good job." But that does not change who you are. Your value comes from inside, not from a "like" or a "pat on the back."

Practice being untouchable this week. Protect your peace.

How do you protect your energy when things get loud?

  15. Tom Sherwood: "If Pres. Trump could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot a journalist, would the White House Correspondents' Association still invite Trump to its big dinner?"

  16. David Shuster: "With the White House Correspondents Association declaring Donald Trump an 'honoree' at tonight’s dinner, I declined an organization’s invitation to attend. The sane washing of Trump and his war on the press is dangerous. And the WHCA is an absolute disgrace."

  17. About the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, Max Burns wrote: "I am not sure how these reporters can stomach being in the room with a man* who has tried to destroy journalism, wants to jail journalists, and gleefully misuses public money to investigate the press for doing their jobs. The dinner isn't worth it, trust me."

  21. "One senior African negotiator, speaking on condition of anonymity, reacted furiously to the suggestion the UK could open new fields. Africa would “reject any proposal for the UK to expand oil drilling” as such a move would be “fundamentally inconsistent with both the letter and spirit of the Paris agreement” and would “weaken trust with climate-vulnerable nations”, they said."

  28. Some people only love you when it’s easy for them.

    That’s not deep love.
    That’s convenient love.

Real love doesn’t disappear when things get heavy, uncomfortable, or inconvenient.

If they only show up when it benefits them, that’s your sign.

Comment “felt that” if you learned this the hard way. 👇
