  1. I'm so tired of seeing men make comments that are literally just a rewording of the original post written by someone who isn't a man.

    Just stop doing this.

Not only isn't it necessary, but it pushes the harmful idea that nothing is valid unless it's rubber-stamped by a man's explanation of it.

    * inb4 - I know there's going to be some man who will think it's humorous to do that on this post—it's not funny. Don't be that guy.

  3. So, TBH, I probably have some sort of Bipolar disorder stuff going on. But when I get manic, I send energy off to defeat #Capitalism and the #Patriarchy , and defend #MotherEarth. It's not about ego with me. It's about one-ness and to #ProtectTheSacred . I have no problem with sacrificing myself to #ProtectMotherEarth . Just saying.... Some of us are willing to do the dirty work... It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it. WE CARE A LOT!

Scouts Will Abandon D.E.I. Policies Under Agreement With Pentagon, Hegseth Says

Scouting America said it had staved off a demand from the Pentagon to ban girls from the organization and change its name back to Boy Scouts of America.

Scouting America will discontinue programs and policies aimed at promoting diversity in order to maintain support from the Department of Defense, the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, said on Friday.

Mr. Hegseth also said that the organization was banning transgender people from openly participating, but Scouting America said the claim that it had changed its policies on transgender members was false.

'Scouting America will continue to welcome all youth into our programs, and we remain committed to creating an environment where all youth feel valued and respected,' the organization said in a statement sent to The New York Times.

Roger Krone, the president and chief executive of Scouting America, said to The Associated Press that 'we have transgender people in our program and we’ll have transgender people in our program going forward.'

In his announcement, Mr. Hegseth attacked Scouting America and the changes the organization had made in recent years to become more inclusive and tolerant. In hyperbolic language, he decried the organization as anti-American and railed against what he called transgenderism' 'Earth-centered pagan religions' and other 'insidious radical woke ideology' that he said had crept into its values.

After that announcement, Scouting America released a statement saying that it was 'making programmatic updates to comply with Executive Order 14173,' a declaration from President Trump that aimed to eliminate all policies that promoted diversity, equity and inclusion in the federal government. Many other details of the agreement remained unclear.

As part of the move to abandon diversity efforts, Mr. Hegseth said Scouting America had agreed to do away with the 'Citizenship in Society' merit badge, which is earned by scouts who 'realize the benefits of diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership.' An advisory on Scouting America’s website said that badge was discontinued effective Friday."

  8. 'What distinguishes Wittig's theoretical, political and literary project, and makes it an unavoidable pole of intellectual attraction today, is its radical anti-essentialism. It's the radical anti-essentialism that Wittig applies to the most credible of beliefs, because of the strength of its naturalization: the idea that men and women are naturally complementary "natural groups".'

  10. CW: capitalism's evils, housing insecurity, mental health/trauma, abuse culture (long)

I am realising that I have only put up with the dangerous conditions of the house and the landlords bs for as long as I have because of how being homeless in 2022 traumatised me and reinforced the belief that I have to put up with abuse and take any and all shit and accept literal death traps as "housing" because I'm worthless and deserve nothing.

I can't work under/for capitalism and the system shuts me out at every opportunity from every resource that most people take for granted.

Of course I really am a worthwhile human being (cheat code: everyone is!), I'm fucking awesome and I am a force for good and for liberation. I just have a hard time remembering that and cannot make it be heard by cogs of the machine.

And... the base idea that one has to "earn" a living and "earn" the right to be allowed to live in a place is so central to capitalism.

It's also central to child abuse. It's what my parents lorded over me and were fully supported to lord over me and my siblings by every facet of capitalism, society and the state.

My mother once said it was "no wonder" that my father is "in a bad mood" (what a euphemism!) when he comes home from a hard day's work and long commute just to find his children hadn't even done their homework and chores yet!

I hadn't earned my right to not get abused. But he apparently had earned his "right" to abuse me. And so did my mother by bearing me.

They took it too far even by this society's (stated) standards, but there was never anything I could do about it.

Is it any surprise then that it took me decades to realise that I deserve to not get raped by my roommates? Despite being "wrong" in so many ways, neurodivergent and queer, and both in the wrong way apparently?

Running away from my then roommate (rapist) was what landed me in the homeless shelter. EVERY person classed as a woman there had a story of domestic abuse to tell that caused their homelessness! Every single one. The people classed as men didn't tend to name it as such, but reading between the lines, it was fairly obvious that most of them also had similar stories. Different flavours of the same shit sandwich — at least for marginalised men.

  11. #EngenderedWriting 92 — How would it change society if women were and had always been physically stronger than men? CW: Patriarchy dissected.

It's a fun idea, and I know authors who are making it work. Still, my opinion, if strength is the only factor I am not sure it would have resulted in a society substantially different than our own. I'll analyze it for you authors so you can rewrite history.

It takes more than strength to make two people evenly matched. (I've been researching prizefighting.) Arm reach is the difference between your punch being blocked and being able to hit with few injuries. Speed and stamina matter. Weight and inertia matter. Think wrestling. All are more important than quantitative strength. This is why there are weight classes in most combative sports.

Unfortunately, women have a smaller stature on average. Weapons are an equalizer here, especially if women can wield heavier weapons than their male opponents. In a fantasy context, magic could be an equalizer. The male tendency toward aggression in aggregate could tip the scales if overwhelming force is applied.

The Indo-Europeans might have invented the concept of controlling women's sexuality to ensure a man could guarantee the paternity of a child and thus make passing property only down the male line arguably reasonable. This usurps matriarchy. This is the true definition of patriarchy. Theories are that Indo-Europeans attacked pre-existing matrilineal societies. There is archeological evidence of prior societies that seem to have been lead by women. Their demise might be the genocides hinted at in the Bible. Who would win (or would have won) if women were significantly stronger?

Women do have their advantages. Arguably speed due to less inertia, especially with added strength. Not natively aggressive in general, they might be better able to pick the winnable fights while angry men might be thinking emotionally. Flexibility. A greater biological investment in offspring might make women less likely to look at fighting as a game, the way men to this day are prone to do (not all of them, of course). For men, fighting can be fun. The danger is a gamble, but we understand the psychology of gambling, too.

For women a fight that includes protecting genetic family from child killers is never a game. Remember that paternity is imperative to a patriarch, more than life itself. A woman, especially one who's stronger than a man her size, might fixate on the death of an attacker and become ruthless. Protecting one's child changes the concept of mercy and surrender. Are either even reasonable?

We aren't those precursor matrilineal people anymore, so it's hard to characterize what could have happened were women stronger. I didn't address women's language skills or diplomacy as these aren't strength dependent, and did not prevent the obliteration of matrilineal societies by the Indo-Europeans. What I've listed are things I'd consider if I were to rewrite history with only one change: Women being stronger.

  12. Ugh. I hate when they added a "Mrs." in front of my name on stuff. It makes it look like I'm married to my dad (who made up our last name—long story)

I never changed my last name after I married the spousal unit. I come from a matrilineal ethnic group and the spousal unit's family is patrilineal. Neither of us wished to change our or each other's last names. (MIL is still bitter about it but she just has to deal.) Besides, it's the 21st frickin' century.

Why we haven't got rid of common titles or whatever they're called is beyond me. It's such an outdated concept. And really, marital status is personal and nobody else's business, and certainly none of any corporation's business. (I'm looking at you, banks and airlines.)
