If you believe that, you also believe that a passport belonging to one of the hijackers — Satam al-Suqami — survived the fireball explosion that supposedly cremated him, flew out of his pocket, and landed intact on the street blocks away, ready to be found by investigators.

The bodies of hundreds of victims were never recovered. But the hijacker's passport? Pristine.

He was informed that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. He stayed in the classroom for another five to seven minutes.

It can widen access.

It can concentrate power.

It can produce brilliance and slop, often in the same hour.

The question is not whether it is pure.

That requires socks and shoes.

Then I wash my face and beard, comb my hair, and attempt to look like someone qualified to operate a body.

First port of call: the office, to turn on the gas fire.

Then into the main lounge to turn on the heat at that end of the house.

The building is slowly being informed that another day has begun.

Next, the kitchen lights.

Food for the pups.

Breakfast things laid out for us.

Nobody has asked for any of this yet, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it.

Then I have a few minutes to sit in the office, check my socials, inspect the state of civilisation, and usually confirm that it remains unstable.

After that, I go back into the bedroom and wake the gang.

By then the house is warming up, the dogs are nearly fed, breakfast is laid out, the first cup of tea is on its way, and I have already had half an hour entirely to myself.

I love that first half hour.

It is quiet.

Then I have a few minutes to sit in the office, check my socials, inspect the state of civilisation, and usually confirm that it remains unstable.

After that, I go back into the bedroom and wake the gang.

By then the house is warming up, the dogs are nearly fed, breakfast is laid out, the first cup of tea is on its way, and I have already had half an hour entirely to myself.

I love that first half hour.

It is quiet.

It is useful.

And for thirty minutes, I am clearly the most organised person in the building.
