  1. I don't know. I can't call that important in the way I was thinking about it so I don't think that's it. And since #meditation has not revealed yet the origin of this need, it's really bothering me because I have put so much effort in for over 4 years to talk ending #homelessness. I didn't die.

  21. The best AI story you probably never heard — because it worked quietly.

LA County built a model (with UCLA's California Policy Lab) that predicts who's likely to lose their housing in the next 12 months — before it happens. It pulls data across county agencies (social services, mental health, health services) and connects people to stabilizing help *upstream*, instead of waiting for the eviction notice or the ER visit.

    The results:
People on the high-risk list became homeless at ~3.5x the rate of the eligible population — meaning the model actually finds the right people

It reaches folks who weren't connected to ANY existing prevention program

They ran an equity audit: performance was essentially identical across race, ethnicity, and gender

County-wide homelessness has now declined two years in a row (-4%)

No panic headlines. No billionaire keynote. Just prevention, transparency, and an audit. This is what ethical AI deployment looks like: model → equity audit → human services → rigorous evaluation.

Could this work in Roanoke? Our unhoused neighbors deserve upstream help, not just emergency beds. Who else in the #Roanoke region is thinking about this?

  26. #China - Mass #homelessness is exposing the rot in Chinese society

by Gordon G. Chang, opinion contributor - 08/16/26

Excerpt: "This post-reform period, however, is seeing even more distressing signs of dislocation. Chinese people, for instance, are opting out of society with many choosing to flee, something evident with the unprecedented surge of Chinese nationals across America’s southern border during the Biden administration. Many of them were poor, but some were middle-class Chinese, evidently desperate to live in a free society.

"Most Chinese, however, cannot leave. Street dwellers often have low social credit scores. A person’s score reflects all interactions with society, and those with low ones are not allowed to, among other things, maintain bank accounts, buy train tickets or obtain coveted jobs. As a result, they have no home."

  27. Laws are often designed to enforce a certain way of life. For example, people can physically live in boats, RVs/caravans, tents, under trees, etc. But, in the US, one usually can't get a government ID, a bank account, a job, insurance, etc without a residential address.

  28. Unsheltered in the wide open spaces

Unhoused in Australia: "‘A sobering indictment’: 14 homeless people die a year in public parks or countryside in Australia, analysis finds:"

"Between 2010 and 2020, 54 rough sleepers died in public parks, the analysis shows. Eighty-five homeless Australians died in countryside areas – including in bushland, desert, beaches and riverbanks – in the same period...It is a sobering indictment of societal abandonment and systemic failure." >>

  29. Disabled Enby And Feline ESA NEED HOUSING, PENNSYLVANIA

Time is almost up and I dont know what to do at all anymore. I've called 211 and have been contacting a place for casemanagement serveral times. Even the shelters for the night that I've been referred to have refused to take me in because they wont accommodate my emotional support animal. He stops me from having seizures and grounds me from complete disassociation. Giving him up is out of the question as it would be tantamount to me dying in suffering.

I have done all that I could with almost 6 weeks in advance, I did all the legwork I could, and I'm still getting spit in the face. Because I have no crimes or substance abuse issues, rehabs and similar programs are closed to me. I have this overwhelming feeling of dread like this is going to be the end of us, but theres still this last weekend left....

I dont know what to ask for. Money wouldn't help much, the best it could do is get me a few months of a storage locker to keep my things safe.

If you'd like to contribute to that...heres an opportunity at last, I'll update when I hit $200 since that should be enough for that issue and i dont want people throwing more money at the situation beyond that since thats not even gonna do much but delay an inevitable.

  30. I still need a place to live or I'm going to literally be street homeless in 3 weeks on January 16th 2024. Pennsylvania, United States. I'll go anywhere but I'm near Philadelphia. My friend would help drive me to location.

I have SNAP EBT, Medicaid, and an male, neutered and vaccinated cat who is my Emotional Support Animal with documentation. I can afford food and medicine on my own. I have a Medical Marijuana card and use edibles to cope with anxiety and ptsd states. He does not do well with female cats. Male cats are fine, Dogs, am not sure.

I am a 28 years old Black Latino AFAB nonbinary person. I've been transient for almost 10 years to get a new life away from my highly abusive mother.

I'm trying to apply for longterm living services to allow for someone to get paid for taking care of me during my disabling depressive episodes and ptsd fugue states.

Please reboost this. I've been trying so hard to find a shelter that will take me but I keep getting rejected and with no help from a social worker to apply for shelters and programs on my behalf, I'm one rejection away from going into a psycotic break. I dont want to go to the hospital again.

Please reboost and share if you know of anyone with a spare room ANYWHERE in Pennsylvania state that could afford to help me in this time of need. Thank you.

  31. I'm #homeless in the general #Philadelphia area. Physically #disabled and unable to earn income (at all). Domestic Violence Victim. Been transient since 2015. #BIPOC #transgender #nonbinary 28 y/o AFAB with an official ESA (Male Cat) searching for no-cost long-term or permanent housing in #Pennsylvania.

I have SNAP EBT and Medicaid and can afford my own food and health care. I need help obtaining the groceries and medications from stores on my behalf as I cannot drive.

Very extroverted and prone to loneliness to be quite honest. Not looking for a relationship but saying so because my introverted housemates ended up being overwhelmed by my clingyness. ( its mostly because Ive been really starved of fun and positive in person activities to be honest) im not saying this to be picky but transparent because I dont want to have to be in the same position 3 months from now again.

My cat Savvy is Male and does not get along with female cats. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations with paperwork. As an ESA, having me added to a lease allows him ability to stay in a building without incurring pet fees. To be further honest, I will not be able to support supplies on my own either.

I realize this is a big request but I can't even try to make promises of any kind of services or cash payment because ive been through the ringer. Please boost if you can. Im willing and able to travel beyond the Philadelphia area, up to 2 1/2 hours drive radius out.
