"Dreams of living in a Georgian manor house with 15 acres of grounds would usually be associated with a big lottery win.
"But for the residents of Dol-llys Hall on the outskirts of Llanidloes, Powys, no windfall was necessary.
"The Grade II listed building is home to a collection of ordinary people who have chosen to live cooperatively - sharing responsibility for maintaining the home and its grounds and trying to live as sustainably as possible.
" 'You have got a ready-made village mentality where people just help each other out,' says Louise Robinson, one of the longest serving of 10 residents at the hall.
" 'There's six other flats going 'what can we do?' And that means a lot."
Louise Nicholson is a middle-aged white woman with shoulder length dark grey hair. She wears grey framed photo-reactive glasses, a light blue v-neck t-shirt with a lily pad white emblem on the front. She is smiling at the camera. Behind her is the main entrance to Dol-llys Hall. There are two dark wooden doors with arched fanlights above which open from the middle of a curved porch-type entrance. A mop handle and a piece of wooden furniture can be seen to the right of the doors."The hall, which has served as a school and a care home as well as a former stately home over the years, now holds seven flats within its walls and a number of #communal living areas and #SharedFacilities like washing machines and heating.
"Louise first came across Dol-llys after she was made redundant from her insurance job in London. She found herself spending more and more time away from the city, enjoying walking in the rural countryside, and realised she wanted to live there permanently.
" 'I'm a single person, so moving to a country village on your own is not that easy,' she says.
" 'Somebody mentioned [intentional] communities and said 'have you heard about them?''
"After investigating quite a few, she knew she did not want to live somewhere where she only had a bedroom and everything else was shared. And at Dol-llys, where she moved in early 2020, she found the perfect combination of community and privacy.
" 'We term ourselves as #cohousing, because we all have our separate flats,' she says, and that the set-up is not a commune.
" 'We share the grounds, we share the common rooms, we share responsibilities and decision-making, but we all have our front doors, which I think is important to everybody who chooses to live here.' "

Imagine making $107,000/year ripping down people's meagre shelters and stealing their few belongings. That's the lowest salary among these assholes.
Also, Kyle (in the blue, running away) would like it known that he is "uncomfortable" with people filming him as he lies to encampment residents about the likelihood of being housed, and threatening them.
And yeah, they have the public order unit chilling on standby.

Today it is snowing, and I'm inside. In fact, as I dictate this, I'm sitting in a hot bath with epsom salts soothing my aches and pains.
The night before last I was sleeping (well, sitting actually, as I did/could not sleep) outside, my choice, as part of a protest about houselessness in the City of Toronto.
⛺️ ⛺️ ⛺️ ⛺️It's not the first time I have "slept rough" with unhoused people, but it has been because I have been requested to fulfill a role as a Legal Observer from the Movement Defence Committee, in case of interactions with police.
As a Black woman, when I have privilege in certain contexts, it is extremely apparent to me. And no, it's not ❝Black privilege❞ as certain #wypipo like to complain about when white privilege is commented on.

First of all, and it annoys me to have to cover this ground repeatedly, the PRIVILEGE in question is "privilege" vis-à-vis rights, not "privilege" as in wealth.
🫠 🫠 🫠 🫠 🫠1️⃣ The first privilege, and this will probably confuse those of you who insist upon hearing privilege as in *wealth*, is that I have dedicated camping gear (and it is camping gear, as opposed to what I'm relying upon to save my God damn life every night) designed for winter camping, AND I've had the luxury to learn how to use it properly in non-emergency situations.
Even then, not being able to use a wood stove or start a fire, made things deeply unpleasant. It reached -13°C at one point, and the cold coming up from the cement was brutal, even through the reflectix. I gave one roll of reflectix to someone who was sleeping directly on the ground.
It was windy, and even with my hammock sock over top of my entire setup, I could feel convection happening. The fact that I EVEN KNOW the difference between convective cooling (the wind pulling the warmed air away from your immediate space) versus conductive cooling (the cement sucking the heat from your body) and how to compensate for it, is part of that privilege.
Hmmm I'm going to make this into a thread instead of a one post novel.
