We have had too many popes issue hollow apologies, and people fall for their crocodile tears.
1) Demand that the #Pope ask #Catholics to resign from all military posts.
2) Demand that the #Vatican pay #reparations to all the people of the nations that the church looted, and which afforded it a pile of gold in a private city state in the middle of Rome.
3) Demand that the #Catholic #Church compensate all the children their priests abused.
4) Demand that the pope stop condemning #LGBTQ folks.
5) #FreeLuigi

A Day for the World to Say Sorry
From Australia’s National Sorry Day Toward an International Day of Truth, Repentance, and Repair
A PeaceGrooves Reflection
There are words so overused that they risk becoming weightless. Sorry is one of them. We say it when we bump into someone in a hallway, when we answer an email too late, when we make an insignificant mistake. Yet there are times when sorry is not small at all. There are wounds so deep, so deliberately inflicted, and so long denied that the speaking of sorrow becomes an act of public truth.
Australia’s National Sorry Day, observed each year on May 26, is such a day. It remembers the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families, communities, languages, and cultures under government policies now associated with the Stolen Generations. The date marks the anniversary of the 1997 tabling of the Bringing Them Home report, the landmark national inquiry that gathered testimony from survivors and documented the devastation caused by these removals. The report called not only for recognition of what had happened, but for apology, healing, reparations, family reunion, access to records, and measures ensuring such violations would never recur.
National Sorry Day did not begin as a sentimental holiday….

Life 'cut short': #Peru's victims of #ForcedSterilization seek amends
Story by Agence France-Presse, 2/12/2025
LIMA — "Florentina Loayza was 19 and mother to an infant when she was sterilized by agents of the #PeruvianGovernment, against her will.
"Decades later, the 46-year-old #IndigenousWoman is still fighting for an apology and #reparations along with thousands of others robbed of their fertility in a 1990s state campaign condemned by the United Nations.
'My life was cut short,' Loayza told Agence France-Presse, recounting how her partner abandoned her over the procedure, which also left her with lasting pain."'On the outside, we look fine, but inside we are withering,' she said of the estimated 270,000 women who, like her, were coerced, pressured or deceived into surgery to have their fallopian tubes tied.
"Eighteen women died, according to official data, during the campaign that marked the final years of then-President #AlbertoFujimori's 1990-2000 rule.
"His government said it had offered sterilization as part of a family planning project, but the UN women's rights committee said in a report last October the state had carried out a 'systematic and generalized attack against rural and #Indigenous women.'
"It said the procedures were carried out without #InformedConsent from victims who were often poorly educated and did not understand Spanish, the language of officialdom in Peru.
"'It's not something that was done in the cities... but in a specific (rural) area as a way of fighting poverty so that the poorest women didn't reproduce,' Leticia Bonifaz, who was a member of the UN committee, told AFP.
"She said it was the biggest known case of forced sterilization in #LatinAmerica."

A Vancouver Island First Nation whose people were the first to greet European explorers in the region almost 250 years ago is taking British Columbia to court, seeking title to their traditional territories and financial compensation.
Chief Mike Maquinna, a descendent of #ChiefMaquinna who met British explorer Capt. James Cook in 1776, says the claim in #BCSupremeCourt seeks to return decision-making, resource and ecological stewardship to the #Mowachaht / #Muchalalaht First Nation.
He says the province has been acting as the sole decision-making authority in the #GoldRiver / #Tahsis areas of northern #VancouverIsland especially with regards to the forest resource, without the consent of his nation.
Hereditary Chief Jerry Jack says the claim filed today seeks title to about 66,000 hectares of land from #FriendlyCove to Tahsis in the north and #ButtleLake in the east, and an undisclosed amount of financial compensation.

Just a reminder that #CNRail had built rail lines on #unceded #NativeLand in #BritishColumbia (and likely elsewhere but I only speak on areas I'm knowledgeable about). None of the #BC #FirstNations have received proper apologies, much less proper #reparations to this day. Yet, #Canada #FederalGovernment & #BCgovernment has allowed CN Rail to obtain injunctions to stop activists from protesting without being immediately arrested. #LANDBACK #Indigenous #StolenLand #JusticeOverdue #NoConsent
