The victory was a Pyrrhic victory; the celebration, a fatal arrogance.
In his brilliant essay ‘The Inevitability of Collapse in the Age of Financialisation’ https://substack.com/home/post/p-208778337, Ryan Perkins describes how this world, which has now dominated the Earth for 500 years, is coming to an end. The ‘end of history’ proclaimed by Francis Fukuyama after 1989 was portrayed as a victory for colonial liberalism. Yet the victory was a Pyrrhic one, and the celebration a fatal arrogance.
Had one read Marx, one could and should have known this. Financial capitalism only functions as long as there is something left to conquer, as long as there is an ‘outside’, as long as colonisation is possible. With the end of the Cold War, the circle was complete. There is no longer an ‘outside’. This triggered neoliberal self-cannibalisation in the West, the comical culmination of which is the first trillionaire, Elon Musk. His trillion is a bet on a future that will not and cannot exist.
On the other hand, there is the rise of China. In China, you see, people read Karl Marx. My first question to Deepseek (after I’d installed it locally on my laptop) was: ‘Isn’t it the case that whoever owns the means of production also holds the power?’ (one of the core theses in Marx’s *Capital*) – Deepseek replied, in essence: ‘I don’t need to worry. The Chinese are nice people.’
As nice as people tend to be.From this perspective, the end of the world seems inevitable. The New World is already in sight … the Old World continues to pave its way with corpses. Cruel and helpless …

German authorities allege that Ukrainian scuba diver Volodymyr Zhuravlev was involved in the Nord Stream explosions.
In 2024, Zhuravlev evaded arrest in #Poland and fled back to #Ukraine. Last year, a Polish court refused to enforce the European arrest warrant issued by #Germany against him, ruling that German authorities had no jurisdiction and that the Nord Stream destruction could be viewed as a justified act by Ukraine in a defensive war. Poland has long opposed the Nord Stream projects.
His Polish defence lawyer, Tymoteusz Paprocki, said if a Croatian court hears this case, it would amount to a ruling on something already decided in Poland, another member state of the European Union, The Guardian reported on Thursday.

My Dad was a high-ranking officer in the Indian government. So I have some insight into where USAID money went.
1. Most of it was kicked back to the US politicians who arranged it.
2. Some of it went to Indian politicians who signed the delivery receipts.
3. Part of it went into making slick commercials, featuring brown children dancing happily around empty boxes labeled USAID.
4. A tiny fraction went to the poor Indian people it was supposed to help.
Don't forget, there are hungry and homeless children in America. USAID was a huge scam that spent public money to lull the middle class into feel-good complacency, into looking away from their poor neighbors, by soothing their malaise. #USAID allowed American #capitalism to make inroads into the third world, corrupting local government to extract natural resources and exploit cheap labor.
If you are really concerned about hungry children, do something locally, instead of letting corrupt politicians steal public money.
The #homeless people in your neighborhood can't vote, because of systemic hurdles that prevent them from getting their share. If could vote, they would scream "GIMME EAT!" , rather than enable American #imperialism.
