Nix kuscheln, nix reden. Verständliche Signale setzen. Die wollen das so.

The old system is already compost, the question is what we grow from this mess
We need to stop talking about “climate change” as though we are discussing a slightly inconvenient change in the weather. Climate change is too soft, too neutral. Climate change makes it sound as though something simply happened to us. It didn't, we pushed this mess, we built an economic system that treats the living world as raw material, turns everything into property, pushes everything through markets and then calls the resulting destruction “growth”. The next twenty years will be […]https://hamishcampbell.com/the-old-system-is-already-compost-the-question-is-what-we-grow-from-it/

Senate enquiry: University Funding.
““We don’t endorse this sort of marketisation of universities…Essentially every university should be good.” (The Australian Institute giving evidence)Not sure that telling a bunch of #NeoLiberal acolytes sitting in the benches is going to cut through… 1) we’ve all known for almost two decades now that “trickle down economics” is a euphamism for the concentration of wealth in fewer hands and 2) universities should be excellent, not just good, despite the #fascist tendencies of Office holders to keep the masses as illiterate as can be in order to preserve the privileged class’ standing in society..
The #AlboPM cotterie in charge of our lives is going to do what it wants to do (as little as that might be) come what may. After all the govt can always get the *official* Opposition to vote whatever centre-right policies they put forward.

@ChrisMayLA6
Is there, anywhere in this world, one leader not beholden to #NeoLiberal economic thinking? Surely not all our leaders are too stupid to understand where current economics are leading us.What is it going to take for electorates everywhere to promote candidates with alternate economic views and truly progressive political platforms… where have our choices gone?

CW: UKPol, "stocking up", good critique
Good points from @RichardJMurphy about that "stock up food and water" announcement.
"In 2011, in my book The Courageous State, I suggested that a sure sign of a neoliberal government was that whenever it identified a problem, it would deny that there was anything it could do about it, and then pass the burden of responsibility back to markets or individuals.
"...what would a courageous government do in the face of national emergencies and the climate crisis?
"First, it would define what those emergencies might be and ensure the government has the necessary reserves of food, fuel, and water available to supply on a rationed basis if required.
"Second, having identified those potential national emergencies, it would take every possible step to prevent them from happening...
"Third, on the climate crisis, it would deliver a Green New Deal and make clear that this issue is so important that managing anything else would become secondary to achieving this goal."

@MsDropbear42
He is.Shame about the Guardian not letting me read the article. But I’ll be damned it I’m going to fork over subs to do so. It doesn’t take long to ‘reach my free article limit’. I use to subscribe. Until I couldn’t afford it any longer. Before that I subscribed to their newsletter and I could get access that way. None of that works anymore… I guess the #NeoLiberal #EconomicInsanity gor the them at long last…
Is there a way around this?

That’s what it boils down to: *thanks for your service Digger, but…* “The government announced a $5,000 limit on allied healthcare spending for veterans in the budget, with spending over that amount to require demonstrated clinical need.” (Source ABCNews)
I don’t care if you’re a pacifist or plain anti-war like many of us are, but when a individual signs up there is a life-long duty of care responsibility that the employer (the Commonwealth) must assume. A soldier give us his life when he signs up, unconditionally, Our luck is that it is rarely taken, but it does happen (even in peacetime). A similar commitment to look after veterans’ health must also be **unconditional** IMO. Shame on the #NeoLiberal #Austerity measures that places such a low price on a soldier’s life.

@icanbob
To be clear, I believe that a changes in current economic systems are required if we’re ever going to get out of this mess. #MTT is a candidate alternative and I’m sure there are others. But I am sceptical that such radical changes will occur (certainly not in my lifetime). Otoh, there are changes we can make to the #NeoLiberal #economic constructs to restrict the more socially egregious excesses of capitalism and skewed wealth distribution. All it takes is for voters to decide on those. -
@AMonkeyInSilk
Sure, if all capitalist societies decided to ditch the shitty #NeoLIberal economic model. But seriously, can you see this happening anytime in the near to medium term, maybe even the long term? Short of global conflagration, the entrenched #RentierClass, the #Grifters and the #Thieves as well as the #PoliticalClass are hell-bent on keeping things as they are until they burn the planet to a crust.I agree though, we dearly need to get onto another economic system if we’re going to save our bacon. #MMT is an optional model. There might be others to consider as well.

CW: UKPol, racism, lynching
I have noticed over the last year or so that The Guardian is getting more *Corporatized* in its editorial policy and looking more and more like the main stream propaganda news outlets we commonly see in the West. Signs of #NeoLiberal #Managerialism inroads in #TheGuardian.
They previously were allowing free access to peeps who subscribed to their free newsletters, but now that access is becoming more restricted.
Whatever happened in management they are now seeking more cash from readers obviously, becoming less and less a platform for “Truth to Power”, with less and less “in depth and informative” articles. Shame, but there it is… Bound to get worse over time. I’ve switched to alternative independent news outlets that are more trustworthy.
I have not renewed my subscription this year and will not do so in the future, the Guardian is dead to me.

Don’t let #Grifters and those they’ve *bought* tell you that nationalisation is a *communist* threat. Of course they would say that, they have a lot at stake in #StateCapture. And the now more than 40yo #NeoLiberal (neo-classical) economy is predicated on deregulated markets (especially financial markets) and globalisation.
But *everything* in a *Social Democracy* is **Publicly owned** until it is bought or acquired by a private individual or a corporation. Hence, every private enterprise operates on the basis of an assumed social licence. That license can be revoked at any time.
Govt (public wealth) subsidies and bailouts ought to be offset by assets transfers to public ownership, anything else is weatlh transfers to the #Rich and #Wealthy of the #RentierClass exacerbating the #WealthEquity gap in society. How else can this gap be breached if not by #TaxingTheRIch or #Nationalisation of failing enterprises, especially where public infrastructure is concerned.

Public conversation about public problems
Our current working models of “governance” in #opensource are mostly: Monarchy - the dictator for life.Aristocracy - the devs.Oligarchy - NGOs/funders.And way out on the edge: Democracy - the users. We need better governance native to the #openweb. Let's look at this at a more personal level before the normal wider social view. Yes, in #FOSS development the devs doing the work deserve respect, and #OMN isn't arguing that users should simply demand things from volunteers. The point […]https://hamishcampbell.com/public-conversation-about-public-problems/

@elasticsoul @RantingCanuck @pressprogress
Now all of Canada can endure the #genx life experience, which is basically being ruled by self centred narcissistic #boomers who sellout, propagandize, lie and constantly exaggerate to get everything they ever wanted.Carney is a dinosaur, soon to be extinct. Sadly, his #neoliberal austerity ideologies and #dirtyoil #pipelines will plague #Canada as well as these pitifully loyal yet ethically shortsighted #Liberals for generations to come.
Liberals will bear this albatross long after Mark Carney has retreated to his comfy billionaire bunker. We will remember the #SouthernOrcas they willfully sacrificed.

Yes, das beschreibt die Krise der #SPD eigentlich ganz gut.

@HakeemG
This gets back to my original thesis: people want these things, and the #Democrats have failed to engage in the serious discussion with constituents to help them understand that we can in fact do this, without immiserating the constituents. Of course, with the #neoliberal BS infecting centrists, they can't comprehend that we can do this. But there are existence proofs.Oh yes, and then there's this:

While reading “Masters of the Universe: #Hayek, #Friedman, and the Birth of #Neoliberal Politics,” I learned that the reason that benefits like #healthcare are tied to #employment in the US is because of a compromise position taken by the AFL-CIO and the major unions after WWII. Looking for more detail, I ran a query through kimi.com & the response was so good that I thought I’d share it on here.
Query: After World War II, why did the AFL-CIO and major unions in the United States promote tying benefits to employment instead of universal benefits?
Response: After World War II, the AFL-CIO and major U.S. unions pushed for employer-tied benefits instead of universal government programs due to a combination of political pragmatism, Cold War ideology, and strategic self-interest.
Here are the key reasons:
1. The Failure of Universal Healthcare (Truman’s Defeat)
The decisive turning point was the collapse of President Truman’s national health insurance plan. It was fiercely opposed by the American Medical Association, conservatives, and Southern Democrats, and ultimately defeated. Having lost that battle, labor leaders like UAW President Walter Reuther pivoted to what they called a "second-best" strategy: securing benefits through collective bargaining.2. The Cold War & Anti-Socialism
In the late 1940s and 50s, universal benefits were easily branded as “socialized medicine.” To survive, the CIO purged its communist-led unions, and the merged AFL-CIO positioned itself firmly within the anti-communist consensus. Tying benefits to employment was seen as a capitalist, free-market alternative that demonstrated private-sector unions could deliver the American Dream. 1/2 -
#Greenwashing isn’t excluded from poorly designed #CarboOffset schemes in Australia and a lot more needs to be done to make them work as they are intended to. I know that. But some people are just dead set against leaving a planet that can be habitable to future generations, to satify their short term self-interests and political agenda.
Opposition to a projct which involves native reforestation alongside reduced grazing land (and in this case other ‘agricultural’ production) on whatever grounds sure seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Government handouts to make #ClimateAction happen isn’t a zero sum game. In our current #NeoLIberal economic climate, that is what govt have to do to lower emmissions and save ecosystems for the greater good. It would be better if govt declared whole swathes of Country off limit to exploitation forever, but some nutters would bring up #cultural (whose culture?) and #historical (whose history?) loss as well as loss of productive agricultural land (whatever that means if clearfelling, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizer are all required to make it so). I won’t even talk about the economic and ecological folly of growing meat on the hoof at industrial scales.

Living through twenty years of #dotcons addiction
For those of us who've spent the last twenty years working around alternative technology, grassroots media and activism, the hardest thing to watch has been how deeply the #dotcons have become embedded in the culture. We know the problems, we've been talking about surveillance, extraction, algorithmic manipulation, platform lock-in and the destruction of community for years. And yet we keep going back, not because people are stupid, but because addiction is powerful - especially when the […]https://hamishcampbell.com/living-through-twenty-years-of-dotcons-addiction/

What piece of shite to start the day on social media with. I ask you, what kind of #Grifting brainless entrepreneur would think that there is any sense in sucking up 40,000 megaliters of #water a year from an #aquifer in one of the driest parts of the land on the driest #Continent on earth to stand up an **Intensive** #horticulture business there?
We haven’t seen anything as brainless as this since the Ord River Scheme and cotton industries up North in WA. What kind of madperson even think it is a responsible thing to do? The people behind *Future Agribusiness* are nothing but #NeoLiberal predators looking to profit while raping the land. They don’t give a toss about *Country* and the fragile *ecosystems* on land *Never Ceded* . But I do. In fact, the mojority of this society does care about the land and what is bieng done to it in the name of #NeoLiberalism and #NeoColonialism.
Where is our *Environmental Protection Agency* in all this? Recovering from #Labor Govt death blows no doubt. There is no coming back from this kind of #pillage. Good grief, this is just insane. Here’s hoping the Courts (in reflecting the will of the broader society while adjuticating) will see true justice (in #fascist NT) applied to the benefit of all and not just a few madhats looking to cash up.

This is not **News** per se, by which I mean this is not a new development. In one form or another, precarious agricultural workers have been take *to the cleaners* over the centuries (from Australia’s colonial past to the present #NeoLiberal #NeoColonialism). Wherever there’s a buck to be made by skipping around laws and regulations, there is sure to be some clever arsehole that comes up with a scheme to vaccum up easy cash. That, is the state our society has come down to and some of the worst perpetrators of this *financial fraud* are #LabourHire companies. They provide nothing that can’t be had by other more equitable schemes and skim the cream off the top for the privilege of screwing workers. ** A pox on all their houses.**
“Australia's growing reliance on temporary migrant labour has fuelled a booming labour hire industry, with contractors sitting between growers and workers, often recruiting, transporting and housing them.” (Source: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08-04/australias-hidden-modern-slave-labour-workforce-exposed/106968610 )
