Yes it’s obvious really, but we still need #petrochemicals for #plastics, #pharmaceuticals, #resins etc. We just need to stop wasting it on power generation.
We could get by with a small fraction of what we use now.

@davidr I believe, unfortunately, one has to drain the water off the bottom of the tank (gasoline is less dense so floats on top of it). For example, light aircraft have a drainage point at the sump of the tank, so as part of the daily checks, the pilot can drain some fuel and check for water. (Thus it mightn't be obvious if one just tips fuel out of the top of the tank).

"According to the Louisiana State Police, a chemical explosion took place at around 12:50 p.m. local time on Friday, Aug. 22, at Smitty’s Supply Inc., an auto supply plant in #Roseland, located about 60 miles northeast of #BatonRouge in #Tangipahoa Parish.
"Police said no injuries have been reported, but the explosion sparked a massive blaze that sent black pillars of smoke into the sky and caused oil to rain down over the region.
"One resident, who spoke to Fox 8, recalled turning her windshield wipers on when the downpour began.
" 'My husband was like, 'That's not rain,' " the resident said. "I was like, 'Oh no, it smells like oil. '"
