Our homeless aid system here is absolutely stretched to the limit. People here absolutely hate the homeless. Nobody wants to give any help to them. The attitude is increasingly "just do something." That "something" is generally "state violence adjacent."
There are proposals, gaining traction, to DCR (involuntarily commit) the homeless as we speak.
Once you are in that system, especially if you're mentally ill already, you might not get out for months or years. You won't have access to the Internet or a device. No one might even know you're in there, and if no one knows, no one can push for you to get out. Few people even know the legal levers.
And once you are out, they give you no continuity plan, no care plan, etc.
Our waitlists for affordable housing are years out. You will be waiting for a very long time for housing.
And good luck getting a decent job here. Sure our minimum wage is $20 an hour. You need like $30 an hour to survive in Seattle. Good luck finding a job that pays that much unless you work in the trades. Tech sure ain't hiring.
