I went to my local grocery store a couple of days ago in the evening. I used the self serve kiosks as I only had 3 items and the one real clerk was busy with a big cart for another shopper.
As I completed the transaction and started bagging, the older lady who handles the self serve machines came over to let me know I can put my bag in the area where the scanned items go.
I thanked her and said "yes, but then it complains about 'unknown items in the bagging area'"Her reply was golden: "it's not human, you don't have to listen to the machines"
I said with a big smile "yes, you are so right. We don't have to"
I really wanted to hug her and give her a double high five, but that's not the kind of relationship I have with this lady... Yet.
Though I think we would get along. -

@fedipete I think this question is a bigger deal than some folks might believe. The fact that Etsy is specifically supposed to be "hand made" or "artist made" and is overrun with slop items IMNSHO means that there is a non-measurable devaluation of art going on. Can you get AI based products for cheap(er) on Etsy? Sure. Are those items art? Some would argue they are not. Are those items the product of theft? Some would argue they are. How can an organization like Etsy moderate items without messing up a ton of edge cases? I have no idea.
Having said all that, I do hope you'll return to this post (or make a new one) and tell us of your findings in your search for something better. 🎨

But what it also is now is a place full of trolls, AI slop, AI chatbots (and the occasional human) spreading scams and spam, or trying to show me nude images.

How do you prove the use case for ai? Force people to use it and rely on it. From old people using Chatgpt and forming ai psychosis to kids using Meta's Muse Tamagotchi Charms.

...fucking seriously. According to open-slopware, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and even SQLite are all slop-tainted. The only alternative databases given are document-oriented or multi-model; there are no alternative relational databases in the list.
Does anyone have an example of a non-slop-tainted RDBMS?
